A Surreal Morning Walk in a Dreamlike Cotswold Village || ENGLAND

- So, today we are out and about walking in the Cotswold village(s) of Eastleach, which is located in the county of Gloucestershire. Eastleach has a population of over 300.
Eastleach is a bit of an unusual one as essentially there are two villages (Eastleach Turville & Eastleach Martin) which are divided by the River Leach. Two stone bridges were built to provide access to each village. One bridge is a road bridge and the other a clapper bridge. The clapper bridge is called the Keble Bridge as it was named after a local curate of St. Michael & St. Martin in Eastleach Martin, who was also the founder of a Sunday School. The Church of St. Andrew sits just across the river in Eastleach Turville, bizarrely the two churches almost face each other. This might just be the first time we have visited two churches during a single walk.
Eastleach Turville is the bigger of the two villages which has a public house called the Victoria Inn. It was in 1935 that the two villages were amalgamated into one civil paraish. In Eastleach there are many listed buildings.
There are no hidden OAAW logos in this video, however see if you can spot two wild rabbits gleefully playing.
Thanks for walking with me.

Amen! I get so exhausted listening to some lousy music behind each and every post on RUclips!
The birds provided the perfect music.
@@naomityler6186 I wonder if the birds sounds were added in.
@omegamale7880 Hi. Honestly, I can assure that no extra sounds have been added to this video, what you are hearing is 100% the original audio recorded at the time of the walk and at 6:00 am in the morning the wildlife sounds stand out more due to very little or no noise pollution. Also the audio is recorded with two binaural microphones as I walk, take a listen through headphones (if you have not already done so), it gives a highly focused almost 3d like sound. Thanks. OAAW
It astonishes me that people are calling this a ghost town. I suppose because they don’t have the smarts enough to figure out from the title that this is an early morning walk. Can’t you hear the birds greeting the day? As I am mobility challenged and can no longer walk like this I am extremely grateful to this young man who has done the walking for me. You have given an old grandma wonderful joy this day. Thank-you young man.

Ghosts are keeping the park and grass very tidy indeed 😂
I love how the gardens and greenery is slightly overgrown its much better for wildlife that way instead of being perfectly manicured
Couldn’t agree more. I live in the Hampshire Countryside and stopped cutting my lawn 3 years ago. It is FULL of wildflowers - oxeye daisies, buttercups, self heal, red and white clover - MUCH more beautiful than boring old grass and full of butterflies!
Awesome.
I prefer that way too.
They done that to entice the BIRDS & BUGS back just keeping it a bit wild

England has the best and most beautiful gardens in the world !
Many people love gardening here. We are also encouraged now to do less mowing and just let grass and weeds grow on roadsides, because it helps insects and wildlife. I think it looks lovely, not everyone agrees!

300,000 THOUSAND TOURISTS visit the COTSWOLDS every year sadly..
This is the first time I have ever “walked” with you on your journey. Absolutely amazing. Something touched me deep inside, I can’t explain it but I belong here. The stonework is unparalleled, the gardens are wild and green, lush, the homes are tidy and well maintained, you can tell the people who live here are proud and happy to be here. The sounds of the birds are music to my ears. You know what I DON’T hear? Leaf blowers, blaring music, people screaming, horns, screeching tires, barking dogs, etc. It’s glorious! Thank you for taking the time to walk in this beautiful place and for sharing ing it with us!
The wonderful thing about England is it is crammed full of exquisite places like this, even though there are large urban areas and cities. Every county has its own unique architecture as well.
You don’t belong there, you belong where you are. These places are the way they are because of the people who live there and have a connection to the place that they preserve the heritage and history. They’re apart of it.
If outsiders start moving in it will no longer be what it was. It will become just like everywhere else and that’s already happened to many of these places. If you really find these places beautiful and want them to be authentically preserved then treat them like fine art at a museum and enjoy them from a distance or a visit. It’s not yours to own.
England, here I come!
YES,, and in the past, the houses were made of whatever material , was local, and in plenty of supply. Hence the creamy Cotswold look, which all repairs , or extensions to ancient buildings , have to be used.@@marsha1963 P.S in areas of Britain, where predominate old villages, are mostly Black timbered against white panelling, meant that there was almost certainly Forests of Oak trees nearby.
I have the same feeling - as if I know everything here, as if I have lived here before... Most probably in my dreams... Thanks for the fairytale!
Wow... what an incredible video. I cannot even comprehend the man hours that it took to create all those amazing stone walls and houses. All the garden gates, the peaceful sounds, the gabled roofs , the crunch of your footsteps..... perfection! The history and beauty of this village is a feast for the eyes as well as the imagination. I can't imagine living this peaceful existence.
Good afternoon Liane. Thank you for your lovely comment. Yes, that is some wonderful craftsmanship in the village when you think about it. Hope to see you again on another walk. Regards. OAAW
Had those same thoughts when seeing the rocks walls everywhere when I lived on the Azores. The key is that those walls were built over hundreds of years by uncounted generations. Everyone added a little more until you have what you see today. So not a big effort for any one person.
Decades and decades
And some of the WALLS are free standing without any mortar being used..
Wow, I'm from England but now live in Japan, the coo'ing of the wood pidgeons instantly takes me back.
Sounds like very fond memories. All the best to you.

I like watercolouring, reading, knitting, gardening, walking, listening to the sounds of Nature. If I were 50 years younger I would relocate there, and I would fit in perfectly....
They cost $ 1-5 MILLION DOLLARS
I grew up on the Isle Of Wight in the seventies, and there were small villages & hamlets that were very similar to this in many ways. The poorer natives still owned their stone cottages & were able to sustain themselves at that time. My neighbours had a 15th century stone cottage & were often unemployed. It was a beautiful place to grow up, but it would be impossible today. The natives are all gone and wealthy folk have taken over everything. That does not take the beauty away from this upload, but it is tough when you've watched similar places undergo such radical changes. Reminds me of James Herriot's Yorkshire.
Tell me, please, what do the inhabitants of small villages do? I am delighted to watch various videos about villages in England - everything there is so clean, neat... I don't see if there are domestic animals in the villages (chickens, geese, cows, pigs, rabbits). If so, where do they live? I am watching a video from Ukraine.
@@ІринаРоговська-й5р That's a very good question really. It's all changed so radically even since the 1970s. I imagine that Ukranian villages are still more like UK villages were in the past. Your question about where everything's gone ( livestock, and other village necessities) is an answer in its way. That kind of true working village is mostly a thing of the past in the UK. The village I grew up in during the seventies is now a quiet, very tidy, sanctuary for wealthy commuters or retired people. The houses are far too expensive for anyone else now. The native people that used to live in them had to move into towns or cities. I'm not sure about the country as a whole, but I think these facts about my old village apply to most of the UK. Perhaps someone else knows of old-style villages in the UK that I'm unaware of?
Thank you very much for your reply@@steelyman08

Don't they have them in Ireland too ??
@@bigbadbootydaddy2025 villages are different here. In England the cottages can survive much longer, presumably because there's less cold and damp to eat away at the stonework. So you have lots of mediaeval villages in England, with houses still occupied. You don't get that here.

Eastleach is beautiful. I live about 15 miles away and walk there regularly. It's as gorgeous as it looks on this video. My now grown up kids paddled in the river Leach from the clapper bridge every summer. The two medieval churches in close proximity are because it's actually two parishes separated by the river. Eastleach Turville and Eastleach Martin. It's the quintessential Cotswolds and never full of tourists, an undiscovered gem. Glorious Gloucestershire at it's finest.

And people say nothing about England is beautiful. To the people complaining about the "background music" there is none whatsoever. This is what it sounds like in the english countryside at all times of day with varying degrees of intensity especially early in the morning. We have no major natural predators left in England they have all been hunted to extinction which means all of the remaining wildlife isn't afraid to make sound and roam freely. Stunning scenery. Beautiful country.

Hi, Gretta. Thank you for commenting. That sounds like a lovely home you have. Please feel free to visit this channel again sometime for more relaxing walks. All the best to you.

Thanks Dany for your lovely comment. All the best to you.
Stunning quintessentially English village ❤
Im American and its crazy to see people living their regular lives in such old historic buildings. Really cool! I havent gotten past 00:17 and i dont think ive seen a wall that old ever in my life. The oldest man-made stuff here in the states is only 200 something years old.
Have you seen ADRIAN'S WALL???? It stretches across SCOTISH/ENGLISH BORDER what the ROMANS BUILT to keep the PIC'S OUT (SAVAGE SCOTISH) from raiding ENGLAND.And you can see what's left of the ROMAN ARMY GARRISON and BUILDINGS.. Pretty cool stuff..
Pretty sure you have a few buildings over there that are touching 300 year old.
But yes, history is just everywhere here. Most villages and towns have a church at least 400-800 years old that you can just walk into . The thing is, we don't really even notice after a while.
Not true. America has very little history. It's dull, so absolutely dull. Even central and south America has more European history. We are sterile, isolated,a truly a sad country. Only few places remaining with character. Tell me last time u saw something like this anywhere in America? And I'm not talking some Martha vineyards for the elites. Where was last time u saw no sidewalks?
@@v8cool231 they likely live in the Northwest or someplace like that. Lots of places in the Northeast have buildings from the 1600s.
yes, we are very lucky. I‘d never want to live anywhere where there’s nothing really old! 🙂
Just found this site. Gorgeous views and beautiful nature sounds. Perfect for crocheting. ❤

@OutandaboutWalking what kind of camera do you use for this type of filming and music recording?
@hannahgroenwold6980 this particular video was filmed with a DJI Pocket 2. The audio was recorded with a Zoom h1n and Roland Binaural Microphones connected to it.
All the best to you.

While visiting Europe in 1980, I was on a tour bus going through the Cotswolds. What a peaceful and bucolic world. Treasure it. Protect it.
