I would definitely love a video on adding tax preparation. I've been really thinking about starting a bookkeeping business as a side job and all your videos have been so helpful. I definitely have imposter syndrome as well. I do have my Accounting degree but haven't gain the bookkeeping experience yet. So I'm deathly afraid of failing. Lol
I’m enrolled in your bookkeeper coaching program. You are so right. I’ll add tax preparation to my platform. I’ve been preparing taxes for over 15 years under my employer.
I am not a bookkeeping or accounting grad but I took a short online course and on my way to getting the quickbooks certification, although is it the same with being a certifified bookkeeper? 😅
Hi! There are many routes to becoming a bookkeeper and you can be successful with any path you choose! That being said, yes, once you complete the QBO ProAdvisor certification you will be considered a certified bookkeeper! Krista (FinePoints Admin)
Great idea! I'm wondering what certification you referred to in the video. I offer tax and bookkeeping. I'm a CPA, but still curious about tax certifications other than becoming and EA. Thanks
I definitely have imposter syndrome. I am a senior in college and an accounting major. Accounting would be my second career when I am done w school/CPA/CFE. I just finished a VITA program to gain tax preparation experience. I want to be a bookkeeper initially as a side hustle until I get my cpa & cfe...but how do I get clients if I have never worked at an accounting firm or as a bookkeeper? I get so scared at times that I feel frozen...how did u transition into bookkeeping and how did u get ur first clients? I am afraid that having the intuit certifications (for proadvisor and /or bookkeeping) won't b enough....any thoughts or tips...any yt resources I should checkout?
Great for you for having such a good plan as a college student! Usually your first client will come from networking with the people that you already know. Here's my video on how to gain experience: ruclips.net/video/VsiF8cJFOEU/видео.html Good luck with everything!
Hey Michelle, I've been an accountant for over 8 years... my dad told me to do taxes from the GET GO, I should've listened! Im just now officially starting bookkeeping and taxes this year. I've always done it in the past to help people, but im buckling down to earn income. I do have experience under my belt now, but a degree would've been enough. There are many people NOW more than ever starting small businesses and they want to focus on growing and selling their product. By letting them now that you have knowledge in accounting (which many probably wont) your showing that your qualified. Be confident!
But tax services make more money than bookkeeping services, right? If a bookkeeping business does not prepare taxes, they might lose their clients because tax preparer might introduce to their services.
A person can take a free online course by the IRS to become a volunteer. This will help you decide if you would like to go further and become a professional. And yes, I intend to do bookkeeping with a tax certification in my state (Oregon) so I can better advise and manage my clients' finances. Love your videos! Thanks so much.
Great video. I'm actually going through this process right now. I became fully self-employed with my bookkeeping business in January and I decided to become a tax preparer to better serve my clients. I'm still in the middle of my certification class but will be done soon. I totally agree with your reasons, especially with #3 (getting clients). Every lead asks me if I "do taxes." Thus, it seems like a great idea to add this skill to my business.
@@questioneverything7011 Thank you very much! My business officially started in Oct 2021. During Q4 2021 I was able to get enough clients to cover my previous full time salary. That lead to my decision to go fully self-employed Jan 2022. Although I know how to be a bookkeeper, I didn't know how to be a business owner. That has been my biggest hurdle since becoming Self Employed. Hope this helps.
Would you be kind enough to tell me where you went to obtain your tax training and certification please. I'm an 83 yr old and transitioning to small bookkeeping business. I did taxes returns for about 10 years when I operated a real estate and insurance business. That's a long time ago but feel if I can refresh my knowledge it would be a nice little side "hustle" to earn a little extra. Thank you.
@@NurseontheRun149 Hello. At the time I posted this comment I used Surgent's Income Tax School, an online program. I was able to get my AFSP certification and began preparing tax returns for income upon completion. I really enjoyed it. I felt it like it was thorough and covered all the necessities to get started. Since then, I am now an Enrolled Agent. I enrolled in Hock International's course to become an Enrolled Agent and loved it very much! If you ever decide to become an Enrolled Agent, I would highly recommend Hock International. I passed all 3 exams on the first try. Wishing you the best!
Love how yoy explain it all so well. I think a video on how to become a tax preparer would be very helpful and would appreciate someone making a video on it
