Furthermore, he seems to see Esmeralda not as a fellow human being but as an object of desire, and his whole mindset is that if he cannot have Esmeralda, as in literally have her as his own, then no one can. Even worse, for all his desiring her for his own, he seems to also be filled with hatred for her. Hatred because of her race, hatred because she rejects him, hatred because he perceives her to be a vile temptress, etc. For that reason, though he claims to be God' most righteous servant, he is in fact God's enemy, and he is filled with the darkness and fire of Hell.
Cassie Weddle true, he is going insane, but this scene NEVER scared me once in my entire life, and I was only 4 years old when this movie was released. I knew he was going crazy because he was seeing things in the fire and hooded figures appearing out of nowhere

I feel sympathetic for poor Quasimodo,he never asked to be born hideous and misshapen all he wanted was to be loved and accepted by those who see him as a monster on the outside
But you have to pay attention to the context of those ages. If he would have been in an orphanat or another place, he would have been dead or as a slave or worst things would have happened him
You know, the fact that he's asking the VIRGIN MARY to damn an innocent girl who has done nothing but turn on an creepy old man to hell is really disturbing!
