It's a no brainer. When Markus uploads a short video recommendation, I checked out the purchase on the JJC SD Card Reader even before the video ended!
And the USB-A port flips to micro-USB!! That's awesome!! Thank you, Markus!
type-c
@@TomSidProductions not type c
@@TomSidProductions It has the capability for all 3. Micro-USB, USB-C, and USB
The older jjc without uhs had lightning under flipping UsbA
Thanks for the update. Note that to get these speeds you have to be using a UHS-II SD or microSD card as well. These will have UHS-II markings on them, and will have two rows of connectors on the back so they are easier to recognize. They also cost more (obviously).
are there micro UHSII cards?
@@Premier-Media-Group Yes. The microSD also have two rows of contacts and are more expensive. To achieve the speeds referenced in MarkusPix video you you need UHS-II cards (SD or microSD) and UHS-II Readers / Adapters.
@@apeel2008 right, I've used the full size UHSII cards for several years. Never had luck finding micro ones though.
im shooting on UHS III , good to go?
@sportindaveyg - UHS III is faster than even UHS II, so if the card is compatible with the camera, you are 'good to go ... even faster !'
I couldn't hardly wait until the end of the video to buy that card reader! Imagine how I felt when I saw it was out of stock (probably the same as many of you)! Fortunately, I found another UHS-II reader you showed. I can't wait to see what speeds I get!
Thanks again Markus!
Gosh, that is definitely the shortest video I've seen you put out. Great recommendation - thank you
JJC makes a lot of useful little bits and bobs. I have a bunch of hot shoe covers, both for cameras and speed lights, SD card cases, battery cases, viewfinder eyepieces, etc. and they are all good quality.
This information is helpful for uploading videos from storage to an editing operating system.
I appreciate this !
I ordered mine just now on Amazon in the UK. I have a microscope with sd card micro for capturing images, however it won't connect to my now antiquated, but still functional Windows 7! so I needed a workaround to allow me to put my images on my computer. This looks like it should do the job. Thanks for the very helpful video.
I got the JJC reader. Awesome reader I ever own. Thank Markus
Thanks again Markus! I just ordered (2) of the SD card readers you recommended.
I have been using this card reader (Kingston) for months. It’s really fast if you have a fast micro sd and m.2 nvme.
king stone now has a version of micro SD reader.
thanks for the advice 👍👍👍👍
anything that advertises UP to 312MB/s is lying. There is overhead even when copying, so my rule of thumb is to take 90% of the max stated read speed, and that becomes your new maximum with overhead factored in, so the max read speed of that one is probably more like 280 MB/s which is still quite fast. It's just that 312 MB/s is the theoretical (paper) max of UHS-II card (reading or writing) and it's extremely unlikely that there would be almost no overhead, so 242MB/s is roughly expected. However, one other thing to consider is heat. Some card readers run hot, especially CFExpress card readers that run fast, and this can (over a long time) wear out the card due to heat (which is the silent killer of electronics).
You seem well informed, whats your opinion on the best card reader out now
Thank you I will try the jjc I do a lot of 4k for my channel and its so slow this will help greatly.
"So that sucks..." I laughed so loud, I think everyone heard in the building (it is a large building :))
Thanks for the info on the devices. Your overlay should 240 MB/s not 240 Mb/s.
Sorry about the nitpicking. I got call out on this as an engineer ten years ago. 240 MB/s is about 10 times faster than 240 Mb/s. 1 MB is 1024 bytes. 1 Mb is 1024 bits. In old serial devices 1 byte is 8 bits of data plus 1 start and 1 stop bit.
Thanks for the vid. I use the ProGrade Digital SDXC/microSDXC UHS-II Dual-Slot Mobile Card Reader USB-C 3.2 (PGM0.5). I also use ProGrade Digital cards.
Thanks Marcus for the recommendation. I’ll have to pick one up. I have that square anker one that was in the last video and It does well. But things could always be a little faster to help. I think a big thing with these companies as well is that they put those advertised speeds, but the reality is, that’s in the optimal, most best setting possible. But in the real world, most people don’t have the most up-to-date USB on their computers so there’s going to be bottlenecking regardless. It’s kind of like Internet company speed advertisement were the results will vary always. But my rule of thumb is go the highest you can go with advertised speeds because you’re still going to get better results even if there is bottleneck issues.
And not surprising is that Amazon is sold out on the JJC UHS-II SD Micro SD Card Reader (@ the link you posted) soon after you posted your video.. Coincidence? Thanks Mr. Markus for the tip. And was that one of your shortest videos (not including shorts of course)?
Just ordered it. Thank you.
Doesn't everybody already have at least 5 SD to MicroSD card adapters laying around? They're included with almost every MicroSD card ya buy, or at least they used to be. The Kingston reader that I recommended is still faster cheaper and smaller, but if using an adapter too much trouble then pick your own poison I guess.
The Kingston is 20 MB slower over here than the JJC
I just also wanted to add that if you are copying onto a mechanical hard drive, you will likely not see these speeds as most HDDs cap out at around 125MB/s.
Some might go above that, but most won't. Especially for portable HDDs.
In other words, you need to make sure all of your storage devices are capable of handling that UHS-II speed, otherwise you will have a storge bottleneck and won't see those fast speeds.
And if you're downloading the sd card to a NAS, unless you have at least a 2.5gig connection, you're not gonna see over 1 gig speed.
1 gig speed is about the same as a mechanical hard drive's performance.
So just be aware of your storage and network bottlenecks if you do experience slow transfer speeds.
"LaCie d2 Professional" mechanical external drive has 244 MBs write and 260 MBs read speed.
For me USB3 external 2.5" HDD copies at 70-100mbs from reader, it gets slower when HDD is almost full also I have a large files so I am using 64k sector size
the only camera that aceptet my128 gold agfa highspeed SD 3 atm waterrestint . was to my surprise not the powershot that aceptet 32 gb max. it was the now older IXSUS 145.
Thanks Marcus great information. I just ordered them. I have subscribed as your information has been very helpful in all of your Videos.
Please keep them coming. What editor software, computer and storage should I buy? Thanks
Saved my time and money. Thank you!
Bought right away, thanks Markus.
Thanks for the update.
Great video! Which Micro SD card did you use to reach those speeds?
I have a pile of thumb drives I want to replace with something . Maybe a extra hard drive.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Saved my day, thanks!
Good info. I wonder if it's any faster or slower, plugging camera to PC via cable. Ya wouldn't have to mess around with pulling the SD card out all the time.
I use the Sandisk usbC sd reader it hands down is fast and efficient. I have no issue downloading at over 200mb/s from it to my phone without extra power source.
I have multiple SD Cards on my desk with the Micro SD slot, so not having a Micro SD reader isn't a biggie to me. I could see having both so that if you want to import both at the same time being a positive though. I ended up getting a small USB 3.2 hub that has both types of card readers. It's only 104 MB/s for SD though. But I'm only transferring audio files anyway so it's not that big of a deal. I couldn't find a hub with UHS-II. I would have gotten it if I found it though.
Thanks mate, appreciate it
I shoot the R3 and it takes the cf express type B the reader is fast as well. :)
The only issues I found with the JJC are
- the SD slot only provides Read ability, not write/modif in my case, whereas the µSD does ; so since I almost only use µSDs I don't really care but for my V60 SD it's limitating, & for anyone using SD cards, that's to be known ; might not matter at all depending on the usage
- this device doesn't wok at all as an USB OTG device for Android, neither from the USB C port, nor from the USB A + adapter ; on none of both SD ports ; that's the biggest bummer for me, as I believed it'd be the best all in 1 for both my PC & smartphone devices..
- Caps don't hold in place very well & dismantle themselves (in 2 pieces), but nothing major here
Otherwise, great.
Now I wonder whether the other ones would fit better my situation, by adding a µSD-SD adapter in the equation.
Thx for the work !
You are a life saver!
As a noob, I would like to know which SD and micro SD cards you like for video. 🙂
& sometimes the adapters can be tricky! yup! it's great to find something that doesn't take the lunch break 2 proof....intel thunderbolt/usb4 is also helpful....👍
Thank you!
I'm not sure if that's an affiliate link or not, but I just bought a black one from your link..
The one I have now is bouncing around 41 to 42 mb/s and transferring 212 gb of dashcam video to my computer. It is taking a bit toooo long at about an hour and a half.
Thanks Markus. Would it be safe to assume that the USB C side is faster than the USB 3.1 side?
Yo. If you can fix your thumbnail and text to say 200MB/s instead of 200 Mb/s that'd be dope. That was really throwing me off and depending the b, in MB, being capitalized or not makes a major difference. 200MB/s is 200 Megabytes per second, which is wicked fast, while 200Mb/s is 200 Megabits per seconds. 1 byte= 8 bits, making 200Mb/s = 25MB/s. Sorry to randomly mention something small like this, but these capitalization usually gets important to me when using cameras and comparing bit rates. Like the C70 and the Blackmagic 6k. The Canon C70 and all of its advertising measures bitrate in Mb/s, while in the BMPCC6k does all their measurements in MB/s. So like the Canon C70 says it records up 550Mb/s and the BMPCC6K says it can record up 323 MB/s in Constant Bitrate. People in my university, who do happen to know about bitrate, assume the C70 raw uses more storage. Pero 550 Mb/s is actually 68.75 MB/s. Or even when looking at internet plans, they usually do their download and upload speeds using bits instead of bytes. So people might assume Oh my god!, if I have the 1Gb/s plan I must be able to download 1 Gigabyte every second. And I'm like nah, that means your download speeds are 125MB/s, which is still pretty fast. Thank you.

I have both the Kingston and the Sony and both get up to 300 MB/s for me, with SD cards that are fast enough. I guess your card probably only goes up to 220-240 MB/s which is why it doesn't reach the limit.
Thanks Marcus, I've bought two - one for me one for son.
Samsung microsd reader bundled with UHS-1 Samsung 512GB pro ultra card gives max of this card that is 200MB/s. Maybe with other faster cards it could be faster.
Wonder if they have that in Cf- an express?
I still want that keyboard.
Do you fill up your menory card and then put it in your PC ? I record over 10+ hours everyday and when the card is fullI I edit the best footage to about 5 mintues in my Sony CX-405 camera and put it in my PC. I ruse a SanDisk Ultra Plus 128 GB and make my video in Windows Movbie Maker. and Clipchamp.I wish I could see how you make a video.
Thanks bro
All your subscribers would make a city. You could be mayor or king if you let us borrow your fast things.
Huge difference! UHS2 is handy. JJC I get 280-300 on a thunder bolt connector
Now that was fast just like 200mb/s
😄
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Hello I bought a J5 USB 3.0 ethernet adapter. I plugged my Netgear powerline adapter ethernet cable into the adapter but I still get 100 mbps. My AT&T speed is 93 mbps even though AT&T says I should be getting 1000 mbps. Should I upgrade my network card reader?
Are the speeds you're reporting based on UHC-II cards, which are triple the price of UHC-1 cards (and my camera, a Canon 6D Mark II, doesn't support USC-II speeds)? How fast is this reader with UHC-1 cards?
Yes I use the fastest cards
Currently unavailable. Darn!
How Justin Bieber as an adult should look like...😂
Well I need compact flash readers. I have professional cameras.
And I don't need speed. Start download and go make coffee.
And it’s already unavailable. 🤦♂️
Omg I thought you were Will Farrell
Never heard that one before
Ah not shippable to Germany...
Mb means Megabits, MB - megaBytes (just in case)
For real sequential read speed measurement I'd take something more accurate, than Windows progress indicator, and definitely not windows.
Thanks dearest Marcus, I follow, appreciate but this seems not your cup of tea.

Sweat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you mean sweet. I don't want to sweat 😓
@@MarkusPixYou mean Megabytes. 200 Megabits per Second is hella slow.
