Interesting, would like to know how are linear drive systems better than traditionally used Ball-screw Drives? Any specific advantages that would increase the life of the machine with better machining performance. Excellent to see new stuff being designed and implemented successfully by your team.

      It's faster...

Its much more reliable because in a Ball-Screw System the force is transferring over the balls wich leans to friction wich produces heat and also wears out the ball and screw wichtig leans to inacvuracy over a longer period of time. The linear System instead uses the Power of magnetic fields like in an electric motor. This force is transferd without direct contact so wear is minimized and accuracy consistant.

@@user-dy6lq4cn2v Can you elaborate more on this topic? What do you mean with "Power of magnetic feild"?
Motors directly drive the gantry using screw lead, are they not?

@@AAMGG No traditional ballscrews are only used in the z axis and directly driven by a motor. In the x and y axis are either rack and pinion driven or equiped with a linear motor. The linear motor works with the same principal like a normal motor but instead of creating a rotating magnetic field inside wich turns the shaft of the motor In a linear motor the static part of the motor is a on the machine bed and the moving part is attached to the portal. Then a moving magnetic fiel is created wich then pulls or pushes the moving part along the static part and so the axis is moved.

@@AAMGG also, ball screws in this size would start to wobble since the critical speed gets very low once they are longer than a few meters at a certain diameter

Are these ever set in the ground so the table is flush with the ground?

Not with this size, if you go up to the 600 then yes the table is set inside a concrete base
