Congrats for the video! Amazing job! 6:30 The difference between a German factory guy vs. every other nation: A german guy NEVER breaks the rule of walking in non-safe zone on the factory floor. These lines on the floor have significance!
Regarding some comments: This is NOT "THE" DMG Mori Plant in Germany. This is the old Deckel Maho Plant in Pfronten, where some(!) of the DMG Mori Milling machines are made. E.g. the DMU50 is assembled by Deckel Maho Seebach, some lathes are assembled in Bielefeld, other Lathes are made in Italy at Graziano Tortona. Some machine beds are milled at Famot Pleszew. Afaik the city of Pfronten will not give any more land to Deckel Maho, so further expansion is off the table there.
I toured Deckel Maho Pfronten in October. Very impressive how they can move those monster machines through town. Our bus was almost rubbing shoulders with vehicles and buildings driving through town, those massive machines must be a real challenge. We came out of the factory and there were 4 or 5 people paragliding down from the peak of the mountain outside the factory. Very cool place.
I am wondering what would be more impressive than this and what would impress men who build these factories?! Even how clean and organized everything is, makes me want to cry
Haven't watched the full video as yet, but intrigued with the arrangement of overhead cranes at 0:43. Looks like the grey painted crane arms can traverse sideways (not swing), braced partly by the higher level rails for the full width portal cranes above.
AMAZING FACTORY, not even a scratch on the floor! If you wanna do it right, take note...very Interesting tour. All very logical of course. A place for everything and everything in it's place!
Soy Marcelo de Argentina,la verdad una hermosura estás fábrica,y obvio las máquinas terrible, soy programador y especialista en mecanizado, tanto torno y centros mecanizado, ojalá pudiera algún día poder programar un DMG Mori, gracias
as a joung upcoming engineering student and cnc freak ( bought my first cnc at 17, and planning and building a 5 axis cnc at 18, and yes i made that money myself) they are definetly a DREAM employer and they speak german and are only 400km away from where i live 😮 literally perfect
Impressive, but your flexing is cringe ngl. What do you use for CAM? I presume you're not working with simultaneous 5-axis-machining, right? Prices for true simultaneous 5-axis-CAM are astronomical unfortunately.
Ian, this factory tour was ĵust simply stellar! Wow! Just wow! Nothing short of AMAZING! What incredible machines! I'm ĵust blown away! Keep em coming Ian!!!! 😊
People and machines making the machines that make the chips that make the Internet (and all kinds of other stuff). I keep saying nothing really happens on this planet until someone cuts a piece of steel. Thanks. Awesome plant. Nice to be able to at least see it. Thanks for an orderly tour too.
Every tour of a high-tech modern factory in Europe: giant windows, skylights, lots of natural light. Every tour of a high-tech factory in the US: dark, no windows, daylight reserved for management. Why?
@3RPRECISIONMFG Hm. I do not think that you can scher them all über einen Kamm. (little mixed language joke, it was funny in my head. German speakers will get it) It means you can not lump all together. There are many employers in Germany who do not treat their employees well, and there are many employers in America who are not as evil as you describe. This is not a problem of a single country, but of the people. We Europeans like to tell ourselves that Americans talk a lot about freedom and then let themselves be enslaved. That is certainly the case, but not everywhere. Besides, it also exists in our country. Fortunately, I am not affected by it, because my employer actually behaves very fairly, but I know a lot of machinists who came from other companies and who did not fare so well there. I bet there are a lot of companies in America that are just so nice and treat their employees well. Of course, that's not to excuse those who fit that description exactly. I'm just saying that we're not free of this problem and we shouldn't think that it can only be bad elsewhere. Sorry for any mistakes, English is clearly not my first language. P.S.: Production is also a part of American culture. There's a lot to be proud of there, too. Except, of course, the measurement system.
Robert Bosch, one of the most famous german engineers and entrepreneurs once said: I don't pay good salaries because I have so much money, but I have so much money because I pay good salaries. And that says a lot about german engineering culture.
I don't know how this guy gets access to these amazing places. He is a terrible interviewer, asks dumb questions, and makes even dumber comments, but I give him credit. He shows the most amazing machine shop footage I have ever seen.
That is some cutting edge manufacturing on a bewildering scale! An idea for a future video might be a look back at the Elgin watch factory, the largest ever built, manufacturers of the smallest consumer machines. A lost 1931 film reel of the factory was uploaded with amazing facts and images of large scale precision machining. You won't believe your eyes at what once was.
Trust me those are kind of small. I used to work with an Asquith CNC back in the nineties with four heads and a 10 x 5 meter table, we did very big work on that mostly one off's but it wasn't as sofisticated as todays machine tools. It was designed to machine nuclear waste flasks out of solid steel castings, forty ton of which would be waste material. I'm 70 and retired now and things have moved on a bit with multi axis machining.
Good video shows the assembly of the machines shows the logistics center BUT dmg mori in these kinds of videos never shows the actual machine shop where the machines are actually made BEFORE assembly I mean if haas for example shows the world how the machines machine the raw castings how come dmg don't do the same cause more or less that's what people actually want to see... but nonetheless a nice video
It´s because the Video was filmed in Pfronten, wich is mostly an assembly location. They manufacture smaller components as for example Parts of the Table 9:27 and parts of the spindle Head 3:49 in House. Most of the bigger components are manufactured in Poland by the Famot location from DMGMORI. There are seperate Videos from this Location. ruclips.net/video/XQREaLQvux0/видео.html&ab_channel=DMGMORI
Two of the machines in my shop have small elevators on the back of them due to how tall they are ! I don't remember the brand, but even when the table is flush with the ground (because the machine itself is put half underground lmao) it's still 15m tall or something They are biiiiiiiig There's also 2 lathes that can take parts up to 16m lmao
12:34 Structural accuracy of mill is measured on continuously moving platform. Just like Kias moving in production line. Guy even said it was "tricky" to develope. No wonder DMG Mori current reputation of selling flashy LED decorated crap at premium prices. People at Hermle, Kern, Matsuura, Kitamura, Grob etc etc would had stroke if management suggested such thing. Pure, unvarnished greed. Current DMG Mori is exact repetition of Mercedes Benz in 1988-90. Out of blue an engineering excellence company was put in situation where engineers didnt have any say in company, only beancounters had.
In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, DMG Mori claimed to have withdrawn from the Russian market,[25] however, in September 2023, the Russian opposition investigating reporting web-site Agency published an article claiming that the company is continuing its operations in the country.[26] After an internal investigation regarding ongoing production in the Russian facility, the company denied claims that products were delivered to military-related companies. The continued production proceedings were explained through existing binding contracts established prior to the market withdrawal, which still had to be fulfilled to avoid breach of contract claims.[27]
Amazing seeing this tour but watching this on tv i got a headache…too much camera movement, constant zooming in and out. Would be much more comfortable to have camera a bit away from you two talking and maybe zooming out as you come closer and maybe pan left or right on some machine along the way.😢
Just got a monoblock 75 at my shop. Very kool stuff! Dude looks like he's wearing women's pants lol what is with that nowadays? I bet his shorts are shorter than hers too 😂
