    I can not get borderless to work on my mac. I have the 8550. I've downloaded and installed the printer drivers and the Epson Print Layout, but when I open the EPL software it says no printer driver is installed.

    Off topic from the video but i have an ET-8550 and what I'd like to do is print postcards, but I'm having so much trouble finding a thick inkjet paper. I'm going for 18pt which I believe is about 17.7 mil / 0.45 mm. Would you by any chance know anything about where I could find paper like that?

    • @KeithCooper

      Depends where you are...
      I'd suggest my local suppliers Paper Spectrum, or PermaJet or Fotospeed
      Just remember that only certain media sizes are supported for borderless if that's what you wanted

    Good evening Keith. Whenever I print borderless using this printer, I end up with a small section around the edge of the photo around 3mm where my print looks faded. It is very consistent, and it is most obvious on darker colors. It also doesn't seem to matter on what size of paper I use, but always on the right side on my print. Any advice? The printer is around the year old with around 2,000 photos printed, I'd say at least 1,900 of which had borders. Thanks.

    I've noticed that borderless printing cuts of the corners, even when printed with qimage one with the borderless 4x6, a4 etc. option selected. have you noticed that? I want an exact print of my image based on a preview without having to crop the final image to the exact printer size format

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Год назад

      I've never used QI...
      Borderless almost alway involves expansion and some loss of periphery.
      There is no reliable way of printing reliable true borderless other than printing on oversize paper and trimming.

    Could you help me find a tutorial for using my new epson 8500 printer? This is the first printer I’ve owned and I need some real basic operating help. I had it unboxed, set up and synced to my iPad and iPhone. I’m having trouble operating it. I’m afraid to monkey around with it for fear of damaging the printer . Forgive my ignorance but I thought you might be able to help. Thank you

    I have issues with two Epson printers (2750 and 2850) doing this on iMac m1 with Sonoma, infect other Macs as sell while printing from a PDF both sides I see borders!! I don't use photoshop? these are basic PDFs that don't have borders yet borders are showing uno when I use double side borderless printing; what advise do you have before I return these printers for Cannon or something else cause they are for a company?
    Cheers

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  6 месяцев назад

      Sorry, not an issue I've seen - then again, I rarely print PDFs or do double sided in any of my testing [remember my reviews are aimed at photo/art printing, not office functionality]

    • @mikehunt576
      @mikehunt576 6 месяцев назад

      @@KeithCooper you dont print PDFS like what? I mean most people (80%) buy printers to print documents usually in the form of PDFs now days, pictures maybe, but with ink jet maybe pictures if its ok...I see videos about it on line, Epson has no solution for this at all which is shocking for printers in prices such as 500£ range...

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  6 месяцев назад

      That's entirely true - I don't ever 'test' that sort of aspect of printers in any detail - not in many years of testing printers, nor do I look at document feeders, duplexing or print speed for documents.
      It's also why I make colour icc profiles and test printers with a variety of photo and art papers.
      There are many computer magazine sites which will look at that stuff and at lower end printers - I'm happy to leave that aspect to them.

    • @mikehunt576
      @mikehunt576 6 месяцев назад

      @@KeithCooper interesting, do you consider the ET 2750 or ET 2880 serious low end printers?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  6 месяцев назад +1

      Only just ;-) Definitions of 'serious' do vary widely though...
      I looked at the 2850 specifically to see if it was possible to get good photo/art results out of the 1+3 ink system. I created a range of icc profiles covering various options and how the media settings chosen affect the ink usage.
      You could say that printer, and the Canon G550 [which has broken colour management on Macs], were done as much as a personal challenge, than as a comprehensive review. There is usually much more detail in the main [written] reviews though - the videos are meant to supplement the written reviews.
      I consider myself lucky to get to do these tests on printers I choose - If I had to review basic printers for a computer magazine or the like, I'd lose the will pretty quickly.

      I remember reading about this Epson 'end of life' thing whereby you had to send the printer back to them for repair and how it was easier and cheaper just to buy a new printer. That's why I've always avoided them. However I'm willing to be corrected.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Год назад

      I'll look into this further - that and add it to my personal list of reasons to avoid borderless printing ;-)

      @@KeithCooper According to the users manual, when the ink pad has reached the end of its service life you can continue to print with borders, but you can no longer print borderless until the pad is replaced by Epson.

    • @WhosPhotoTube
      @WhosPhotoTube Год назад

      I really hope my ET 8550 never comes up with the dreaded "end of life" message as my older Epson photo printer did, it was still working perfectly and, with new ink. I believe Epson had programmed this in from the factory, Epson denied this of course.

  • @rainstarian
    @rainstarian Год назад +1

    Thanks for this video! Does printing borderless have an effect on this (or the ET-8550) in the long term?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Год назад +2

      Yes - any printer will potentially suffer from ink overspray issues if used a lot for borderless.
      That excess ink has to go somewhere. Large format printers like the P5000 and my old Canon iPF8300 had a 2nd maintenance tank just for borderless overspray.
      There is also the issue of smaller printers 'filling up' pads for overspray collection and needing a service call. This would take a lot of borderless printing though [how much I don't yet know]
      I should point out though that this is potentially an issue for ANY make of printer used a LOT for borderless printing.

      You mean the A3+ [13"] ET-8550 I reviewed when it first came out?
      That was, like this one, a loan printer...
      No way can I afford to actually buy all the printers and camera gear I test! Wish I could, but then again I wouldn't be allowed to live in a printer warehouse... ;-)
