- Things didn’t go as planned from time to time. During the scene where Jena Malone has to strip in the glass elevator, it turns out that the hotel wasn’t closed for production. This meant that she not only stripped in front of Woody, Josh, and Jennifer, but any guests that happened to be looking in got a free show as well. She thought it was odd that they were doing this scene in the hotel instead of a soundstage, but she went with it anyway. When the elevator opened, a hotel employee was standing there, and Malone couldn’t stay in character and started laughing. Also, during the scene where Katniss, FInnick, and Peeta eat fish, they were actually eating raw fish. Jennifer had a difficult time with this, and the other two couldn’t help but laugh about it.

This is even more heartbreaking after seeing that she recently shared about an assault that happened from a cast member from this very movie. I've always loved Jenna and grew up watching movies she was in and it hurts to know she was put through the shitty hollywood stuff a lot of actors, especially young woman, have to go through. There's a lot of sick people in the business and it breaks my heart that this stuff is even allowed to happen- and how there are no consequences for the people who do stuff like this.

What’s weird is Jenna could totally have worn almost full body clothing. All she would have had to do is wear a pretty low cut cold shoulder shirt with a scoop back. She could have worn a hazmat suit from ribs down and the camera wouldn’t have picked it up lol
Some actresses just elect to actually dress down for roles. If you wear different types of coverings and there's a camera error, you could have to refilm a shot, which costs you daylight and cuts into the movie budget.
Movies don't have endless budgets and actors have to be paid their agreed upon wage, as does every other crew member, which is why movies go over budget so often.
If she truly elected to strip down, then that's fine, but yeah. I question having an actress actually nude in a public place that's still accessible by the public. Not safe for crew or the public. At least it was a minor thing and hopefully she didn't get any negative repercussions and neither did the hotel staff.

Either way, as long as the actress and actors are comfortable and agreeable enough, its not such a problem. If they were forced, no one, least of all the audience, would be happy about that.

Have you ever heard Jena Malone tell this story, anywhere, and say these things happened?
How would none of them know that the area wasn’t closed off? You really believe none of them noticed people standing in the lobby?
If they filmed that scene in an actual hotel, which is a waste of money in the first place, they’d likely have multiple floors.
In fact, I know they did. They filmed these scenes on the 42nd through 47th floors of the Atlanta Marriott. Those floors are only accessible to the folks with a room on them.
They booked those floors, so there’d be no guests and no employees just walking up like that.
There’s no one seeing her at that hotel, in those elevators, unless there at a very specific spot, on one of the three or four floors below, and it would take great eyesight to have actually seen her nude body, because the angles of the hotel.
I’ve stayed there several times.
Just use a little logic. There was no employee waiting when she got out, and it’s highly doubtful anyone could even see her, because of how high up they were.
You know the photos would be online if anyone had saw they were filming.
Lawerence was crazy famous, at that moment, and a photo of them in the elevator, would’ve been worth a lot of cash.
I could give you more reasons why the story is likely all fictional, but I don’t think there’s any need.
Malone would’ve known what the scene called for, before they shot it, and she also knew where they were filming, because all the hotel scenes were done there. So, she knew they were at least on the 42nd floor.

Oh, and did you notice how everyone but Malone, are standing in front of the window, in the frame right before she walks out? She wasn’t uncovered, right next to the glass.

For those wondering they filmed this at a famous hotel in Atlanta. There would be no way to have filmed that privately without shutting down the entire hotel. The hotel has 52 sort of octagonal shaped floors and the elevator sits almost in the middle of all of them and is visible from most of the doors and the entire lobby. Also, she’s said in interviews that she wasn’t totally naked which is good because they had to do a ton of takes. The elevator is actually really fast so she had less than 6 seconds to get out of the outfit before they reached the floor she had to step out on.

I remember they had an Irish dance completion while they were there filming. It was on the 8th floor and you could kinda see the set which was really cool. I was pretty young when they filmed it though

I'm not even surprised that Hollywood would do this.
Literally any time people say who cares and don’t think about the actress being perhaps secretly uncomfortable with that… I turned down working on a role because I would have had to of agreed at 17 years of age to show my full body on film right after I turned 18 and I was going to do it, because I felt it was the only way to have a chance or earn money to survive my hardship. And I had to act like it was all fine and okay, and used laughter as a way to dispel discomfort and embarrassment. The film industry does not treat you with respect or care and I turned it down because I knew I couldn’t handle the internet scrutiny more so than the nudity in the role itself of people like some in the comments here being sexist and unsympathetic and gross. To be told that it’s a privilege or blamed… and by men who are admitting to looking at women who don’t even want to be looked at no less in situations in real life too in some comments. I wasn’t going to be coerced into consent, and I also want to throw up when I read those comments I saw from people like that dude saying he refused to let a woman ‘take that away from him’, that being the right to look at a bunch of girls skinny dipping in a pool not knowing they were being watched by him non consensually and him feeling he was entitled to that and it was his right and they were asking for it. People like him are the reason I couldn’t do it. But while she did do it, I highly doubt she was warned about the circumstances in which she would be doing it. And to people saying the floors they went to would have maybe only had staff, that’s still randoms, and it’s a glass elevator that the public who the hotel was not closed to could see into and no doubt would have gathered to with a film crew repeatedly doing the shot over and over again, garnering attention.
I hope you get to meet with decent people while working on your career and don't ever have to encounter these kinds of ppl.

This scene is what gave Jennifer Lawrence the confidence for Red Sparrow.
Elevator part was a bit unprofessional for the studio, especially one of that size, they could have put security guards outside to alert people and cover her as soon as possible, and make the hotel owners alert residents that this part of the elevator would be close for X amount of time and planned to be really quick with the shooting. It makes little sense to be taken of guard like.
But who knows the difficulty of making a project of that size! I wish things were on a straight line and we never have unpredictable events and annoying limitations; maybe they had more complex scenes to film, limited production time and needed to finish those small scenes quicker. And who knows what more, i don't work on cinema and i shouldn't pretend i know all the ins and outs.
That scene made me like Jenna Malone....

It’s amazing how many people seem to believe being paid well means actors can or should be forced to do almost anything. Money does not make them immune to varying degrees of discomfort or suffering. And being paid a lot of money doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to advocate for yourself or complain on occasion - they’re still human beings.
I think of things like when they spend 12+ hours per day for days or weeks on end in cold water to film (as they did in this movie, or the newer Jurassic world movies, for example). They’re paid extremely well, that doesn’t make it easy to spend that amount of time waiting around in freezing water. Money doesn’t magically make them immune to cold. Or when they spend 4-8+ hours in hair and makeup, THEN they start doing their “actual job” of acting. That would get old very quickly for me, personally. Again - they’re still human beings. They’re simply paid better than you are, and many of you seem to be upset about that part specifically. So.. go audition and we can see if money makes you magically immune to discomfort
