#2 in receptions by a TE to Tony Gonzales, did that playing with T.O and Prime Dez all his career.

To be fair he has the most catches because some of the super star wide receivers were always double covered, Like Dez and T.O. for example.
@@theherbpuffer That's not fair at all, They take away more targets from Witten than double coverages.....besides, a linebacker or safety would take Witten, and would never man up Dez or Owens.... and to still put up the All-Pro stats despite the massive competition....Keyshawn Johnson early in his career, Terry Glenn and Owens, then Austin, and then Dez, Martellus Bennett was breathing down his neck for a few years....Gonzales had WAAY more targets because he played with no one, and caught 65.9% of them...Witten caught 71.5% of his targets...Witten was targeted 101x a season, Gonzales was targeted 118x a season.

We all know Witten is top 5 greatest TE to play the game. Always wide open when Dez is being double coverage.
Not just that is one of if not the greatest blocking tight end. Which was nice to have from 06-2013 because the oline was terrible.

Dude is the truest description of a 'beast" Witten has played with many quarterbacks before Romo and since.........he ALWAYS produces no matter who is QB. Witten has NEVER been Cowboys #1 or #2 target in red zone because of Cowboys having high profile players like Keyshawn Johnson, Terrell Owens, Dez Bryant and company! Used to piss me off because Cowboys would depend on Witten to move the chains down the field but absolutely forget about him when it came to throwing in the end zone..........example? After 8 games so far this season Witten has 3 end zone targets only (2 td's)....that has been the story his whole career as well as having to run "stop" and 'sit" routes most of the time unlike the way Brady uses Gronk who IS Pats #1 target in red zone (great receiving TE running seam routes) but Witten blocks half the time and as Madden once said " Witten is the most complete TE in NFL"

Just remember the TE position is NOT a position where you rank them via superbowls or accolades. You rank them on being consistent. You also rank them on being the full package, he came into the NFL in an era where his position was changing drastically and he proved he was capable of both. Gates disappeared all the time, Gonzalez even struggled. Witten... you get the same thing 16 games a year.
THE BEST TE in the NFC and it's not even close.

If you think TD's on a TE measure how good you are then please stop watching football. Witten has probably been the most reliable players on the Cowboys franchise ever. Gronk has Brady throwing to him a shit ton every game. Witten is used to block and catch balls when needed. I don't think I have ever seen Witten drop a pass ever.
Getting TD's is cool but a TE is used for a lot of things other than that.

Exactly, plus Romo liked throwing tds to the corners and off the shoulders which is specifically for receivers. Where as Brady prefers throwing directly in front of him or cut across the middle. Different style of qbs effect a tight ends td numbers, it has nothing to do with the tight end.

Jason Whitten to me is a better and more reliable tight end than Gronk. Why you may ask? Because Jason Whitten stays healthy and doesn't really miss games.

Just cause Gronk & Gates are better at running down the seems using their athletic ability doesn't make them better TE's! Witten has been doing it longer! Hes never hurt! Witten is still doing it at a high level! In Wittens early yrs he could also attack the seems & hurt teams deep! People dont remember Witten running down field against philly after his helmet got ripped off? Witten is a way better version of Jay Novacheck who is also one of the best TE's to ever play & also belongs in the HOF in my opinion!

Jason Witten is the most complete tight end to ever play the game. Could arguably be #1 on this list. Route running, hands, blocking, reliability, and was one of the most difficult players to tackle in the history of the game.
The guy doesn't drop the ball, has great blocking ability as both a fullback and tight end, he's the prototypical tight end.

Imho, comparing Witten to Gronk is like comparing Steve Largent to Jerry Rice. Look at the QBs Wiiten had & then look at the QBs Gronk had. Same thing with Largent & Rice. Jerry Rice had Montana and Young, Largent had Zorn & Kreig. Witten had Tony Romo as his best QB.

Orextritin no Antonio Gates has NEVER been better than Jason Witten. Jason Witten is the total package. His blocking is great, hands great, always open, route running way better than Gates'. More receptions than Gates. More receiving yards than Gates for their careers. Just better all around the board, than Gates.

Witten always gets open, and is super consistent. He should be on the list for pure high-level consistency, but not higher than Gronk, Casper or even Gates. a Solid #9-10, and that's still awesome, as we're talking about ALL-TIME here.
