    When playing arco you want to play perpendicular to the string as well for best tonality.
    Your grip is also wrong lay it across your 4 fingers and hold tension with your thumb on the frog.
    A bass bow would also MUCH help but deciding french or German would be massively helpful, the hairs are wider and a longer heavier bow.
    I want to see this succeed and if my comment can help I'd be ecstatic.

      @@SaidTooMuchProductions it's ok dude! :) It may be in your interest checking what he has to say, a lot of the "guttural" sounds that came out, albeit cool, may be weird frictions caused by bad bow technique, since it's not like a pick, that even when using it wrong the note desired will be played. Cheers!

    Octobass was traditionally tuned C1-G1-C2 from low to high. The C0 tuning was a very modern invention and now even OSM uses an A0 tuning to match the bottom of the piano.

    • @The_Copper_Element_Itself
      @The_Copper_Element_Itself 8 месяцев назад

      Aren't most of them tuned to E0 A0 D1? Or im mixing it up?

    • @Rh0mbus
      @Rh0mbus 8 месяцев назад

      @@The_Copper_Element_Itself I have never actually seen that as a tuning. The only standard ever written down was one of Berlioz and Strauss in their "Treatise On Instrumentation." In the section right before the section entitled "The Orchestra" is a section called "The Octobass" which talks about its function in the orchestra. They say, "This instrument is not, as many people believe, the lower octave of the double-bass, but that of the violoncello; it can reach only a third below the E of the four-stringed double-bass. It has only three strings, tuned in the fifth and fourth:" and it shows an 8va standard bass clef showing C-G-C. Which would sound C1-G1-C2

    With my 34" scale bass and a Kalium 0.266 gauge string, I hit a 15Hz(ish) B. I actually get notes. I bought a set of 0.280 strings from Octave4Plus that hits 15Hz on a 34" scale bass bass.
    I had a new neck made for my 7 string bass that gives it a 37.5" scale and a custom set of .266 strings that let me hit 15Hz. It makes much better noises;-)

    I've always wanted to play the octobass in Arizona at the MIM. This is probably more attainable though lol. I'm pretty sure the strings were made of gut rather than steel (or in your case, copper), but this is a pretty fair substitute.

    @muddbear6410 3 года назад +4

    Hey man I got an idea I'd love you to try.
    So one of the main points to bass of any kind is to move air. Upright's do this very well, acoustic basses are pretty poor. Been musing on how to change this and was wondering.
    How would guitar and particularly bass sound with a resonating chamber on the headstock? Like a sitar and other eastern instruments.

    • @muddbear6410
      @muddbear6410 3 года назад +2

      You could even try putting one of those big metal cookie tins around the headstock with as much headstock to metal contact as possible. Or wooden box.
      I love the way metal resonators sound. Might be cool to put a pickup inside too
