  • Get 10 Strategies for Dealing with Toxic People here: www.boundaries...
Brittney is trying to move on from a long-term toxic relationship. It still has a grip on her heart. Dr. Cloud gives advice on how to uncover the root of her attraction to a toxic person. If she doesn't resolve the root of the problem, then she'll repeat the course with the same toxic person or another. Once she identifies the root, she can learn the pattern of her triggers, and properly be able to navigate her relationships. Dr. Cloud points out that it's not the person that she is missing out on, it's her heart's deepest desire. Once she uncovers what she truly wants, she can detach those ideals from a specific person, then surround herself with people who love her correctly to foster a healing environment.

12:10 "We repeat the class until we learn the lesson the class is trying to teach us. And the class shows up in human skin."

When we attract toxic people into our lives, we have got to take a close at ourselves. When we works on ourselves and deal with our own stuff. We will clearly be able discern healthy and unhealthy people. True genuine change starts with us.

Wow! Well that answers a lot of questions. Also allows me to see and act on red flags in the future. “you will never heal that longing
    in a romantic relationship
because you're not looking for romantic
love you're looking for parental love
    to fill an empty hole
that either mom or dad or both didn't
    fill
    and that can be healed.”

I pray this young girl gets the support you mentioned. I suffered those longings in relationships almost my whole life. It's sad. I didn't have the resources she had when I was young. Not one ever turned out good. Now I'm closer to 60 and happy single. Took me awhile to learn.

He doesn’t love you if this stops with him and move on. There is someone out this who is dying to be with you and loves you. Get out and look for that guy instead of wining about a looser!!

I was bound to toxic relationships for 10 years too like her (Just released from it this year) just not with one guy !
Jesus has been repairing my heart with your book Dr. Cloud, the bible and prayer and worship. 🙌🏾
I gave God a yes! And said no to fantasizes, sexual immorality, obsessive thoughts, longing, emotional abuse, manipulation, demons agendas overall. It wasn’t easy and hasn’t been easy but God is so faithful and good and she can get out of this cycle too in Jesus name!

If it applies, Al-Anon, CODA, Divorce Care and Grief Share are great resources. Lina Abujamra has a good online group also.
