- Its that time again for another convention review. This is our 3rd convention review of A-kon! I have to say that I didn't pull any punches this time around and was even more forthcoming than my previous review. With that being said the panels and events I attended, I did really enjoy. As always context is very important here. But there are some things I was just disappointed with. I plan on not attending A-kon next year and trying out some cons I haven't been to in a while or an entirely new one! Its probably not going to be my last A-kon, but I am ready to replace that time slot with something else.

A-kon has switched owners a couple of times the past few years so I wasn't expecting things to stay exactly the same. But still.
Any ways, so glad you enjoyed! I tried to keep it fair and honest without it coming off as too ranty. 🙃

In your opinion what is the best anime convention? This was my first convention, my daughter is into anime so we wanted her to have this experience. We had fun but I could see some areas that need improvement.
It depends on what you like. You should definitely check out my upcoming video on Animefest. There were things I enjoyed more than A-kon, but they don't have musical guests...which is one thing I always look forward to. You just have to keep stuff like this in mind. You won't find the perfect con, but you should find the ones that do more of the things you enjoy.
If you live close to the Irving/ Dallas area, you have quite a few options: Anime North Texas and Anime Frontier are two good ones. And as previously mentioned, you also have A-kon and Animefest as good options.
I think if you are into cosplay and want to get deeper into the scene...A-kon is a great community to be apart of. Cosplay is a big part of A-kon. Their gaming side is pretty decent as well. I didn't get to see what that was like this year (due to running out of time).
A-kon leans more into modern day anime....so if you are watching dubs of the latest anime, it will be a real treat for you. They don't tend to get as many Japanese voice actors...and that is probably due to Texas being far away from Japan and a lot of English VAs living in the Dallas area.
Another thing I would suggest is the smaller conventions tend to be more affordable and family friendly. Just something to think about. I imagine now that A-kon was your first, it might be more challenging to give a smaller con a chance.
