My wife and I hid ducks on our last cruise in July on the NCL Joy. But the best duck moment came when I saw a young dad with his child in a stroller and the child was crying and would not stop. I walked up to the father and asked if I Could give one of my ducks to the child. He said yes and the child quickly stopped crying and started to enjoy playing with the duck instead.
Awe!!
How sweet of you. Bringing a smile should be the ultimate goal instead of someone getting their pic on FB…😀
That’s so awesome ☺️
I had a similar experience in a restaurant , Bring joy to the journey where ever you can
My husband found a cruise duck in the elevator on the Discovery Princess Jan 28 -Feb 4, The Mexican Riviera. It had the cute saying “Oh what luck, you found a Duck…” It also said Sisters Cruise, and the sisters put their names. Two sisters are from CA and one from Texas. At first we thought some poor kid lost their toy, then we thought it was an advertising from a travel agency called Sisters Cruise. Thanks to your video we now know what it’s all about! I hope one of the sisters reads this and know that I have my duck, and I see it every day and it makes me smile. Thank you Sisters!
This reminds me of the painted rock phenomenon that was going on a while back. Paint the rock and hide for someone to find. It's totally fun and brings a smile to someone🙂
A looooong while back 😊I used to find these in parks in the 70s (and got SO excited you’d think I’d found the prize Easter egg 😝) The “instructions” were much simpler. They just had “pet me” painted on them.
That’s so weird, I literally just found a painted rock in a park yesterday!
We do the rocks here
We just went on our first cruise a few days ago. I found a duck for my daughter Ava and she plays with it everyday. She even played with him while (intently) watching this video 🦆
We love hiding ducks. It brings such joy to people who find them… Have 25 ready for my next cruise on the Firenze on August 13… Thank you for your ideó. I really appreciate it.🎉❤
My wife and I like to hide them in plain site then sit back and watch until they are found. It's surprising how many people walk right past them! We love to see the faces of persons of all ages light up when they find one, whether or not they know about the ducks or not
I do the same. Love to see them being found.
Fun!
I tend to walk by the ducks, especially if there are lots of kids around. It's great to let them have the fun first!
lol Found or should I say saw a few of them my past Royal cruise and was wondering what they were for. Didn't touch them since I figure someone left them there accidentally and might come back to find them.
I found one on our last cruise just in the elevator. I got so excited lol! I kept it as my souvenir. For our next cruise I’ll be hiding them. 😊
I went overboard. 😅 My cruise is only 3 days, and I have 90 ducks to hide. My intention is to wander around at stupid o'clock in the morning and hide as many as I can hide then go back in the afternoon and see how many are still there.
My 1st cruise last April on Royal I found 3 total, my Sweetheart didn't know about hiding ducks was a thing until I explained. We plan on taking some to hide this year. What a silly but so fun thing to do . Great memories, too ❤
Awww that is so sweet of that little girl and her dad spreading ducks all over the crusies 🕎🎁🎄🎄☃️☃️🎁💚💚❤️💚💚🛳️❤️💚💚❤️❤️🎄🎅🏻🕎☃️☃️☃️🕎🎅🏻🎅🏻🕎☃️🛳️❤️💚❤️🛳️❤️💚🎄🎅🏻🎁☃️☃️☃️🕎🎅🏻🎁🛳️🛳️💚💚🛳️🛳️🛳️❤️🎄🎅🏻🕎
I’m 51 years old and get just as excited to find a Cruise Duck. Will be going on the Explorer of the Seas in January 2023. Get ready bc many little duckies will be hidden. Happy finding!!
Love that!
Found my first duck on Royal Caribbean on my 3rd anniversary cruise in Feb 2023. I’m taking 20 ducks on my 4th anniversary cruise to St Thomas and St Martaan also on Royal Caribbean! I love this!❤
I’ve hidden on Carnival & Princess. Only found one And only had on posting. It was an awesome crew member. He told me he re hides part of what he finds. And he takes them home and catalogs them. It really makes crew happy. And that makes me happy. They work so hard for us.
Thanks for sharing!
My son and I actually did this while in Boston a few years ago. We spent the day in a few of the more tourist spots, and we "duck dropped"! We had a blast hiding the ducks, and then even more fun when we would see people finding them and getting all excited. We are going on a cruise this year, and now I am super excited that I can do this again! :)
Going on my first cruise in February and I am definitely going to participate in this. I love doing the kindness rocks so this is something for me to look forward to
Sounds great! So much fun
aawww we paint n leave kindness rocks around our town toooo. so much fun😀
I'm a first time cruiser and when I first heard of this recently I thought it was adorable! I hope to find some cruise ducks. I might even hide some when I cruise in May!
Thanks for the video, Ilana! My daughter and I love hiding the ducks as a daddy-daughter activity that is very special to us. We bring 50, but know of other people bring a lot more. We were wondering who started it all, and am glad to know it was another daddy-daughter combo! Awesome! We do get ours from Amazon, and actually laminate and zip tie the tags to make them more durable for the packing and deploying. It always is worthwhile to hear a crew person or another passenger get very excited when they find a duck shortly after we hid it.
Wow, love this! Thanks for sharing
On Virgin, the crew has their own finding ducks game (in addition to the one that passengers did on my cruise). If the crew members find one of the crew ducks and turn it into a manager with the tag attached, they get some sort of a treat/bonus/whatever based on the particular duck they found. There was a bit of confusion when they started finding passenger hidden ducks till we all realized that there were two different games going on. The unspoken rule became that if you found one that was not part of "your" game, just hide it or leave it where you found it. I don't know if the crew game has continued, but it was active on Valiant Lady as of October 2022.
Wow! I never knew this - thanks for sharing
Still is, but I gifted crew personally with ducks, they loved it. I told people they had to find me to get a duck. Gave them clues or just randomly gifted to passengers
I hid ducks reading books on my 15 day Carnival cruise to Hawaii. It was my first ever cruise and I learned about it on a Facebook page. I never found one, but had a great time.
That is awesome!
Its true. 😊 Some crew members take home the cruise ducks. My daughter was so happy when her aunt gave her the ducks.
My sister is a seawoman in carnival horizon and her friend gave her cruise ducks. Others even ask her friend to search some cruise ducks for them 😂😂😂
Hi, Ilana!! I found out about the cruising ducks some days before embarking on my first MSC cruise. I always join a FB group of the ship that I will sail on and in this occasion someone mentioned the ducks. Well, I found one hidden in a planter on the cruise and I got really excited. I find those ducks adorable and the fact that can I find one makes me feel like a kid again. I will definitely get some for my next cruise and I will hide them and try to find others. I believe this is a very fun idea.
Awesome!!
My husband and I hid ducks on our Alaska cruise onboard the Celebrity Solstice in August. It was a lot of fun. I actually was lucky enough to find my first duck on that trip as well. We are taking our niece on her first cruise in April for her 21st birthday,on Royal Caribbean, and we will all be hiding ducks. We are going to have one special large birthday duck for her to hide in her first formal night or to give to someone special. She loves flamingos, so her “ducks” are actually going to be pink flamingos , and some other ducks with a birthday theme. She will have her own special 21st birthday tags. My husband and I will just be hiding regular ducks, with our own special tags. We found that another good place to find ducks online is OrientalTrading. They have many different styles of ducks, for not a bad price. We found that you have to read the description of bulk ducks you find online at Amazon, because they tend to be a lot smaller than the regular ducks found elsewhere. Either way it is great fun to both hide/give away, or to find.🐥
Love this! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the post ... I am doing 2 Celebrity Cruises ... Southern Caribbean an Alaska and I will now bring a few along!
Thanks for the info. I have purchased Mexican style ducks for our cruise in June, which has 2 stops in Mexico - Cozumel and Roatan. I have a few regular ducks for the first day - and we plan on hiding our Mexican Fiesta and Mariachi Band Ducks on each day we stop in Mexico. We have never played it before, but it sounds like fun.
We found a duck on our Princess cruise in April. It was so fun. We're thinking of doing it with our grandchildren this next year. :)
Going on an Alaskan cruise in August on Ovation of the seas…10 of us including 2 grandkids. I bought enough for 5 per cabin…very excited to hide our ducks. Very cool idea, even for adults.
I just returned from Harmony of the Seas - saildate 12/10 and I hid about 60 different ducks and 15 Keychain tiny ducks. It was a blast! I would hide a few in plain sight and then sit back and watch people find them. I only saw one on social media and that was just fine. The objection was to bring smiles. I think my cruisemates thought I was a bit crazy lol. I really enjoyed the game!!
Lol love it!
The most ducks we've found on any cruise was 28. We plan to take some with us on our next cruise to hide - a first for us. It's kind of addictive! We did find a cruise pig on our cruise last month - I kept that one because he was so cute! We keep our favorites or any original looking ones. On the last day, we give the rest away to kids, after asking the parents if it's okay of course. The best one we've ever found is a Buc-ee's duck - score!! We are not on social media, so we do not post pics of them. On our last cruise we found a pair of cruise duck earrings! We've also found duck key chains as well as the itty bitty teeny tiny ducks - so cute!
This fun trend seems like a neat way to liven up the process of exploring the ship on embarkation day with your family. Do some hiding, do some finding as you get the lay of the land.
Great idea! Thanks for sharing that.
This is something the Jeep community has been doing for a couple of years, too. You just randomly duck a fellow jeeper. We're doing the Carnival Sunshine next September, and I had planned on taking ducks to put on jeeps in the parking lot. While looking for new tags, I saw something about cruise ducks. So now I'll do both cruise and jeep ducks. I also get holiday and seasonal ducks at Oriental Trading Company.
I too, am also a jeep owner and duck other jeeps.... we plan on cruising to the Bahamas in October
Gonna do this with my step son on our first cruise next year. He uses a wheelchair to get around so he is going to have ducks and any time he sees someone "like him" who uses a w/c or a walker or scooter or mobility assist he is going to give them a duck.
Love it!
I'm taking my daughter on a Bahamas cruise next year for her 21st birthday. We are definitely going to hide some ducks for fun.
Just received 60 ducks in the mail for our two upcoming spring cruises. The kids (age 13 & 20) and I are all excited to tag and eventually hide our stash! Thanks for this video… very helpful to know more details on the Cruise Ducks. Stay blessed!
Have fun! Thanks for sharing
I love hiding ducks, unfortunately I have made my own tags but thanks to you I have found where to buy the tags! I have hidden more than I have found. It's part of the fun! Love, love, love hiding ducks!
That is awesome!
I've got 100 ready for my next cruise! Such a fun activity. And I'm 50.
My family and I just went on a Thanksgiving cruise (Carnival Freedom) for my son's 15th birthday. I handmade about 20 towel duckies to hide, because who doesn't love duckies and towel animals!! Best of both worlds. It was my first time hiding duckies. I gifted a few to some of our favorite crew members, who absolutely loved them. It is so much fun to hiding and finding them. I have to get started on making some for our February cruise on the Carnival Mardi Gras.
So, are they kinda big, or do you fold them tiny somehow?
@@WendyHughesJelenGRNLVNG I use washcloths to make them. The are just a little bit bigger than a 2in duck. I would post a picture of them but I don't know how.
This is like Jeep ducks. I won’t ever get it but I’m glad it brings joy to other people
Never heard of the cruise ducks. Never seen them. Sounds like fun.
The cruise ducks have been around much longer than you mention. People have been talking about them on various cruise boards since the early 2000's and there are groups that have been around about cruise ducks since then.
Awe I think that is cute that crew members might take them home
I found 2 little ducks on the MSC Meraviglia last week. Tags were from 2 different families. So the fun is continuing!
I will be hiding some on my MSC Cruise in June, 2024. Hope you enjoyed your cruise...first time sailing with MSC.
My daughter and I hid them on the Disney Wish… we had so much fun hiding and watching the faces of kids and adults who found them. The crew told us they did take home to their kids. We bought all different kinds of ducks and added our cruise tag and our door decoration included a larger copy of our tag.
I just read an article that stated the ducks are banned on disney cruise lines
We love cruise ducks! I cruise often and have not yet found one 😢 but I always bring plenty to hide for others to find! 🥰
My next ducks will be spending Christmas on the Carnival Panorama. Traveling in a plaid Christmas Stocking with a candy cane treat.
I will be on the panorama doing the same on New Year’s Eve lol! Such a cute idea!
Excellent. Thank you. I paint shells and rocks as well as draw ducks and other things on 3x5 paper to give away.
I was on a Princes cruise in Dec. 2022 , I found a duck with magnet on a stairwell light. I picked it up and put it back, I didn't know about cruise ducks till I got home and saw your video on this subject. So thanks for the info. The duck I saw had no tag on it.
Thanks for sharing
I first encountered cruising ducks on the Disney Wonder in (I think) 2019. Such a cute tradition.
Im going on the Vista in March, looking forward to learning more about this and doing. Have some on the way!!
I went on my 2nd cruise this past August on Carnival Miracle to Alaska. I was at a dollar store and bought 6 duckies and some decorations as a last minute thing. It was super fun hiding them through the cruise and wondering who may have found them. We found 2 for ourselves and brought em home as a souvenir lol
Very fun!
I love the cruise ducks❤. I have collected almost 15 from the last 2 cruises i have been on. Most are so easy to spot and I’m always amazed that folks walk right by them and never see them. I will be on the Carnival Dream Jan 8th and looking to add to my collection. Thanks in advance.
Thank you so much. This looks like fun. I am going on my very first cruise this Valentine's week. I will have to keep an eye out for these and maybe plant a few of my own.
On my last cruise it was a Halloween cruise, we found a painted rock with fun Halloween designs and that really made my daughter’s day
I found a duck when I cruised to Alaska last fall iron NCL. I was so excited! I did reside it to bring someone else joy. I’m hoping to hide some ducks on my next cruise.
So much fun! I buying ducks right now for our upcoming cruise....Thanks!
We took our grandchildren on a Disney cruise this summer. One day my granddaughter pointed to a duck and said “look nanny” . She had no idea about the game, first duck found and rules explained. By the end of the cruise they had found 2 ducks each.
just saw this on a recent RC cruise and i love it! I found 4, kept three and rehid 1. I am going to hide my own on a carnival cruise i am on in december. i actually found ducks at dollar tree! I also found some frogs :). excited to hide!
YES, I kind and found ducks when I cruised in 2019 & 2020. I crochet and wrote a pattern that I have shared in the FB cruising duck group. I am getting ready to cruise the Carnival Breeze and have crocheted more for my granddaughter and me to hide.
I have already purchased for next month‘s cruise. This will be the 4th ‼️ cruise I’ve left them on. It is such fun. The crew love them just as much as the passengers. ❤
My mother and I will be hiding our ducks on our next cruise in January. Looking forward to making people happy with them, even if I don't see their reaction.
Last cruise I met a 10 year old girl who was desperate to find a Superwoman Duck. I hope she got it 🥰
Edit: NCL cruiseline
I found 2 cruise ducks on Royal Caribbean in April 2024. Never knew about it. Can't wait to hide ducks on my next cruise.
Going on my fourth cruise and never heard of this. Very cute.
My boss bought some for us to do on our first cruise in January. It sounds like a fun thing to do...
Thanks for posting this informative video :) My dear wife and I just got back from a recent Carnival cruise. This was the first one we were on since Cruise Ducks were a thing. I have to admit, we had a hoot finding them! We kept most, gave one away and re hid one. I enjoyed this so much that I definitely want to pass on the fun, and I plan to hide a bunch of them on our next cruise.
Very fun! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Thank you for making this video ❤ I love hiding ducks!
It’s really such a nice, fun & unique activity on cruises 👏
I love the ducks just got off of a Norwegian cruise escape March 4, 2023 and I got two ducks. I love it going to had some next year.
Heard about this going to look for one on my next cruise
I love this idea but have never found a duck. I’ve been looking at buying some for my next cruise though. It’ll be fun 😁
Have fun!
Look on the tops of the overhead light fixtures in the corridors outside the cabins. There are always tons there.
Thank you for explaining all the buzz around cruise ducks. I really didn't understand what they were all about until I watched this video! Cruise ducks aren't a contest from the cruise line. They are just a fun game done by cruisers.
Hubby found one on Holland America. Sooo cute and soooo fun 😊
Thanks for this, just found our first and now planning on hiding some on next Cruise!
it's duck duck jeep on water ...... YESSSSSSSSSSS ...... my duck pond will be cruisein with us this september
Just bought my 1st 20 blue ducks and Carnival Panorama will be our hiding ground in 2 weeks...
Found 2 on Celebration in March and though it was so much fun, good luck cruisers!!
Hi liana…francoise here in San Diego here. We just came back from a 20 day cruise on the diamond princess and we put out 23 ducks Christmas decorated ducks and regular ducks. Unfortunately we did not hear from anyone and all of our ducks did get found for sure 😢we found one ourselves from someone that was cruising on our ship from Australia, which was funny because they said there was no Australian cruisers on our ship 🚢 wondering if maybe it was left from the cruise before that. We did not post anything on the Facebook page as we are new to doing Internet stuff with the ducks. Hopefully whoever found our ducks would post them somewhere so we could see where they ended up. Going again in March have another 20 we will take a long and try it again.🎉
Fun! It’s hard with posting on social media for some, especially while on a cruise
Someone in my cruise Facebook group mentioned these ducks will be hidden. I had never heard of it before, so I came to your channel, of course, Ilana! You're my go-to person for all Cruise insider knowledge. Come to think of it, the only way I knew about cruise FB groups was from you, too! 🥰 Can't wait to share this video with my little boy and see what creative ideas he comes up with. Thanks!
We just got back from a cruise on Royal Caribbean and there were ducks on it. I didn’t know anything about it but I do now. My granddaughters want to do it on our upcoming cruise in June.
Paper ducks are fun too you don’t have to worry about packing just a cute idea
I take no less than 300 duckies per sailing. I took 600 on Oasis in October (the ship is too big for less. Lol) and 600 for my back to back on Anthem last month. It is so much fun! And there's no problem with it, there's no such thing as too many ducks. I mostly hand them over, to kids, adults and a lot to crew members, everybody loves them! When I "hide" them I do it at plain sight, I want them to be found. Some times, I sit near by and watch them being found. Never fails to elicit a smile! Love to see it! Thank you for making people aware about this, I have seen people asking their kids to put them back where they found them, or refusing to take them because they had no clue what it is.
I was also on Norwegian Epic and hid and found duckies there too.
Wow! I’m impressed 🎉
How do you pack them?
How do you have room in your luggage? I have difficulty fitting in essentials!
I’ve been cruising on Princess for years & have never heard of this. I have a cruise coming up in October & I think I’m going to bring a couple dozen ducks with me to hide and see what happens. This looks like so much fun! Has anyone played this game on a Princess cruise?
We have done Cruising Ducks on NCL,Carnival, and now Royal Caribbean.
Hi Ilana, I love your videos! MSC Euribia sells them in their gift shop.
We are cruising on Carnival Legend this June. I bought ducks to hide! Looking forward to hiding them and hopefully finding one or two!
From December 10-18 cruise 2022 we received 3 Cruising ducks from random people who found it, my 8 year old daughter is so happy about it and said SHARING IS CARING is real😁😁😁😉😍 Happy New Cruisers #CarnivalHorizon
Found 3 this past April on Celebration. One was a purple dinosaur...
May even try at hiding this November on our next cruise, great vlog as usual!!
We found our first duck aboard Norwegian encore on a cruise to Alaska in 2021. We also found one this year on a Disney cruise
Great video Ilana. I was wondering how this started. I just found out about it in October on our Mexican Riviera cruise (On Celebrity). I saw some kids walking around with them. I plan to do this on our upcoming Alaska cruise (also Celebrity) in May. What a fun idea!
So glad this was helpful! :)
On our first cruise in 2019 (Carnival) with a group of friends, we had no idea about this. We found a bunch. We planned on going the next year and hide them but everything shut down. Our next cruise this fall I will have about 20 ducks for our 8 day cruise on Carnival.
We are heading out on a cruise the end of February and I just got my ducks and will be planting a few. This is my very first cruise sounds like something fun to do.
We have found ducks on our last three cruises. Only the last one had the full tag and hashtags so I could post on FB. I understood the concept but didn't know where to post until we found this last one. It was a fun little surprise.
I plan on hiding ducks on our December 1, 2024 NCL Breakaway crusie! I'm purchasing pre-printed stickers to put on the bottom of the ducks. I can't wait to hide them!
We did this for the first time on our Alaskan cruise. We took about 25... found out our next door neighbor on the ship we hiding ducks too.. they had 100! It was so much fun! We aren't cruising again till 2024 but I already have bought our ducks for our next cruise! Can't wait!
My husband is a graphic designer so created passports for our ducks and made them personal.
I shared for the first time. What fun.
I found 4 on Carnival Breeze last week....😀 Put 1 on my desk at work!
I’m 3D printing cruise ducks for my next cruise on NCL Pride of America in Hawaii. Our family loves hiding and finding, even my teenage boys!!
We found ducks & re hid them on our very first cruise on the Carnival Luminosa last year & again in March this year but none had any tags..
Will see if any on P & Os Encounter in November & Royals Quantum of the Seas in March next year. Might take some with us next time 🐤🙂
I hid 2 dozen ducks on regal Princess Feb 2020. One person posted online and it definitely brightened her day. Don’t know about the other 23. 😀
My family leaves on a cruise a week from tomorrow, and we're planning to hide ducks for the first time! We have those same hockey ducks like you were holding in the vid. 😄🏒🦆
I just ordered my ducks! Cant wait to hide them! 🌹🌹🌹
Crusing next month on Disney Wonder and definitely plan to bring some ducks! I think its a very fun add to the trip. 🦆
I've joined this fun activity! Hid ducks on NOV '22 HAL Zuiderdam and DEC '22 RC Radiance of the Seas- both holiday cruises. I observed few finders in action and both were teenagers, who were so excited! Duck hiding was very prevalent on Radiance! I had many opportunities to give ducks to little kids (with parent permission). On Zuiderdam, not sure if there were many other duck hiders as this group had a median age of 72! But it was was from that cruise that I experienced my first post on Facebook of a duck found!!
It sounds like a fun lil activity.
We are on the Oasis of the Seas January 15th and will be hiding ducks for the first time. I have 24 and can't wait.
