I went on 2 cruises in my life I had a good experience each time I think this is good to stay stay educated on rules requirements tips and edicate it sounds easier to leave little children at home 21 + should be the age range for such an adult trip when I was 18 I saw others my age drinking alcohol and act a fool you should talk about under age drinking on the ship
First rule Always be polite to the crew even when making a complaint
👏👏
These are really great suggestions. Unfortunately the people who need them the most will never see this
Generally, people who do that stuff just don't care.
I witnessed a situation at the Buffet : A gentleman was by himself at the buffet and had placed a plate with food at a table and went back to the buffet to get the rest of his meal. In the meantime these two "ladies" just came in, sat at his table and MOVED his plate and drink to another table that was empty!! When he returned with the rest of his food, he looked confused before realizing what had happened. They just looked at him and...nothing!!! Not even an apology!!! The man just stood there, looking at them for a few moments with this " are you serious" look on his face, shook his head and sat somewhere else. I was appalled by the rudeness of these women.
Oh no!
That's horrible! I wish there was someone there to help him. Sometimes people treat single travelers in a very rude disrespectful manner.
Omg that's terrible.
Oh no ...entitlement
Wow smh
When I am seated at a table and people are walking around looking for a table I will invite them to share the table with us.
I ran into an issue several years ago when passing through control and then moving to board the ship. I stopped to allow an old man with a dolly to make his way forward in front of me. Two middle aged women then pushed past me, saying if I wasn't going to move, they would. I told them "I'm sorry, next time I'll knock over an elderly gentleman so I could be on the ship 10 seconds earlier."
They didn't like that.
Oh, I've also noticed women's bathrooms are on the port side when men's are on the right side. LADY = PORT = FOUR LETTERS. GENTLEMEN = STARBOARD = NINE LETTERS.
Good tip about the washrooms
This is not the case on all ships. Sometimes they are side by side. It really depends on the layout of the ship.
So my husband has to go to the starboard side to pee? That's actually very inconvenient, they should be side by side.
@@mr.balloffur the ship's big enough, there should be both each side.
I’d like to also add do NOT touch the food at the buffet and put it back!
Yuck - yes
YUCK!?!?
Shame on those humans.
Makes me think of every home Ive visited that does not have soap or had towel in their potty. Always See them differently after...
omg yes! or go to the omelet station etc and stay well I want 6 more when you think it is just one person ahead of you.
When you are talking to someone & find out what they do for a living, DO NOT delve into your personal issues in order to garner free advice! On our cruise a few weeks ago, I was held captive be a needy passenger with issues because she found out I was a minister. I don't mind helping people, it's what I do, but I deal with a LOT of heavy issues, and when I'm on vacation (and that night heading to a show that we consequently missed), I need to unwind & relax too.
Thanks for sharing this!! My friend is a nurse & runs into similar situations
Also happens in other fields, as well as pet sitters, pet trainers.
Suddenly, you are answering the advice column 😬
Yes! I’m a nurse!
The same thing happens when you travel by land and meet folks that want to migrate to your home country and NEED help😁 Has happened to me numerous times.
Customer service often shuts people up.
I’m a mom of two man children but I’ve seen young kids run around the hallways around 11pm when people are sleeping. So annoying!! 😆
Seems late to be on their own 😬
@@LifeWellCruised
They just need guidance lol
I like that my children are grown because we can arrange our cruise when kids should be in school. But even then I’ve seen one or two although they’ve been well behaved
@@bernadettelawson2916
I can actually do that now since my younger son is now 18.
@@randyo6019 Or smacking. ;)
42 cruises for us and most of these rules are broken by others on almost all of our cruises! People are just rude and only think of themselves. We don't let it ruin our cruise, but it really is frustrating. The elevator issue is probably our #1 complaint: LET PEOPLE OFF BEFORE YOU TRY TO ENTER THE ELEVATOR! It's not that hard, people!😠
I think the elevator etiquette is probably one of my biggest issues also. It’s not just bad etiquette/rude, it’s a matter of physics. I am currently occupying the space you want to occupy. We both can’t be in the same space at the same time.
@@darrinbowers820 Exactly! I'm usually a pretty easy going person, but on our last few cruises, I've just had to be blunt with some people and just tell them that we need OFF before they can get ON. Just no common sense at all anymore.
That is elevator etiquette across the board, isn't it? Not only on a cruise ship.
@@christinasauers7066 Definitely!
I agree about the elevators but I think many cruisers live in places where they don’t frequently ride in elevators
If someone is standing waiting for something at the buffet and you only want stuff further down the line it’s okay to go around them, assuming there’s an open space. If someone just wants vegetables there’s no reason why they should shuffle along behind the person who is stopping to consider every meat option.
Agree 👍 it’s only logical, right? However, I got the stare down for doing this. As if, I’m crusty AF. The older woman I encountered expected people to part like the Red Sea when she approached. Ironically, my hair is grey too! 🤔
Some additions:
1. Always be nice to the crew
2. Some problems are beyond any onboard crew member's control. Don't take out your frustrations on them.
3. Don't pull the mandatory gratuities without very, very, very good reasons
4. You can get unlimited portions in the MDR, mostly, on most cruise lines
5. Cruise line Internet is much slower than you're used to at home; plan accordingly
6. Try not to block the aisles to talk to your friends/relatives
Good points! And you added a new acronym - MDR (Main Dinning Room).
👍
so yes and no on the MDR portions now they will add a "small" upcharge with more than 2 main entree options i believe its only like 5.00 but is good to know
@@remirez2k3 True enough, but the details vary by cruise line
I have no idea why people want to be mean to the very people who are charged with not only providing service to make your vacation nice but have to try to save you if the ship sinks.
When people’s ask our loyalty status we like to answer “ aluminum.” 😂
We also find it incredibly rude when we are sailing a premium brand for people to put down Carnival. It’s okay to like all sorts of cruise lines.
Carnival is great. We had a lot of fine and we were treated very well by their staff.
Agree.
I tell them I'm in stowage class.
Despite your comment being months old, I laughed at your “status” reply 😂 I know people who speak in these terms and love to talk how much they travel/cruise, it’s rather boring and pretentious 😂
In addition to being courteous to the crew, I would add keep your stateroom tidy. It really makes it hard on your cabin steward if your stateroom is a mess.
Good one
I have actually had cabin stewards thank me for keeping my room so neat.
Yes! That’s what we do. We always try to pick up our room for the most part before we leave the room even if it’s only for an hour or two and this includes putting dishes on the tray and picking up clothes and other items.
I'm an organizing freak while on a cruise, more so than home. 1. A stranger has to go into my personal space so I'd be embarrassed if I was messy. 2. I'd rather my cabin steward focus on cleaning rather than organizing my mess. 3. My vacation is much more pleasant if my personal space is clean and tidy. Messy means less relaxing.
@@Star-Boarder I’m the same way. It also makes it way easier to pack if your stuff is not scattered to the four winds.
I’ve noticed on numerous cruises the use of personal tumblers/ Yeti type drink ware. Passengers may not be aware but when refilling- please use the glasses nearby to refill your tumbler with ice or drink instead of directly holding your used tumbler under the dispenser. I know this sounds petty but it helps with decreasing cross contamination scenarios. ❤
Good point
I agree Use the ship cups and pour them into your personal cup.
Thank you! I will definitely start using a tumbler to get ice. I don't think it's petty at all. No different than getting new plate, but it hit me as soon as I read your comment.
The exception is a bottle where the lid completely comes off.
Are any ships equipped with water bottle fillers?
Of course, I see people reusing the cups and glasses from the buffet.
great advice, planning on bringing personal tumblers & will do this now!
There was a little bit of a line for hand washing at the buffet, and there was a staff member at the door asking everyone walking in to please wash their hands. Someone had the audacity to ask “do we have too?!” Lmao I couldn’t help but laugh.
he politely said “yes ma’am, you have too” lol
Haha
Probably just being funny
@@Messup7654 you’d think so lol but she was definitely not happy to have to get in the back of the line. This was around lunchtime, so there was quite a few people waiting
Practically running over people in your electric scooter in your rush to the buffet.
Oh geez yes!!! We were « honked » once on a cruise by someone in his electric scooter… he was going so fast it was very disrespectful of him… He got « the look » more then once!!
Wheelchair user here and that would annoy me as well As frustrating as it can be at times, I couldn't do that and I've met some people in scooters who think they are entitled. How do you complain to these people. You can, and you should
Actually had a very large man on a scooter run over my foot trying to get on an elevator, me and my wife were the only ones on it at the time
people in scooters feel like they are privileged😂😂😂!
I literally had a large gentleman run over my foot with his scooter because he was in a huge hurry to ask for SIX roast beef sandwiches.
My gf and I went on the first cruise after the stop. The family of 4 next to us sat down and never looked up from their phones. I go on a cruise to forget the world
Something that I realized from watching the ‘pier runners’ videos (people who were REALLY late back to the ship) is if I was running really late for whatever reason (sick kid/husband/me, injury, etc, who would I contact?
This is why I would take a copy of that day’s newsletter, because the port agent’s name & contact info will be on it.
The port agent usually hangs around the cruise docks, so you would at least give the cruise line the courtesy of letting them know where you are and the circumstances.
The port agent can also help you if you did miss the sailing.
This is so important. On Princess I was very disappointed when they published two different port agents, I asked for clarification and was met with an unsympathetic attitude. They thought I was over reacting and it was no big deal. They actually told me, “It’s a small island, so you won’t have any problems.”
Yes you can take the planner with or a photo just in case
Good idea. Never thought to do that. Thank you.
It will snow in Hawaii sooner than this but the kids taking over the hot tub has to go.
I agree, on our Carnival cruise the kids (five of them) were climbing all over us, sitting on us, fight playing in the hot tub. After 15 minutes we just got out. They stayed in there for over two hours as were still there when we left from watching the movie. Never did see any parents!!
That’s why I always check school schedules ( don’t forget to check the schedules of year “round” schools too) before booking a cruise. If people can’t make children behave in a restaurant they certainly won’t on a cruise-- free babysitters….lol
Agreed. First cruise I went on, the teens took over to the wee hours and security only told them to keep it down.
I have my third Holland America cruise scheduled for this summer and seeing these comments makes me all the more grateful for the fact that there are very few children on Holland America cruises! I think I would go nuts with the scenarios that I just read. 😂😮
FYI: it does snow in Hawaii. Some of the volcanoes are high enough to get several inches at times. Lol
People wearing a cover up
But leaving indoor seats in buffet wet . Should take food to an outdoor table instead
Agree with the cabin walls not being soundproof. Recently, in the cabin next to us decided to have a birthday party at 2:00 in the morning!! Full-on singing and partying like it was the middle of the day. And they continued to host people every night into the wee hours of the morning. I finally said something to our cabin attendant and it finally stopped and we were finally able to sleep all night long
It's best to speak up. My aunt and uncle got a cabin next to 3 teen girls one time. They were up all-night squeaking (or w/e teen girls do). They were reported 5 times by various people; I heard their mom yelling at them and saying that. The cruise definitely does something about loud passengers.
and WHY didn't you report it when it first happened ?
I will also add to bring earplugs !
Watch your language in front of kids! I was in the hot tub with my 8 year old and two guys dropped f bombs left and right.
That's considered polite conversation for a large percentage of people no matter who hears apparently. Many use bad language as punctuation to start and end sentences regularly. I'm a 63 yo man and I'm often embarrassed. No wonder many teens and preteens do it.
I have no problems telling others to mind their language, particularly on a cruise. In a city centre, they can swear at you even more, walk away and you'll probably never see them again. On a cruise, you can warn them in a calm way that you will report them, then you can actually report them, and you should. I've done it and it works. They know they are in a closed community and can't get away with it.
I’m so tired of the fbomb
Thank you! The comment about not cross contaminating the foods is extremely important. Many people, including myself, have dietary allergies or restrictions. When people use the pasta salad spoon to grab some quinoa that quinoa is no longer available to those who are celiac or gluten intolerant. Same goes for grabbing veggies with the bacon tongs, those veggies aren’t able to be eaten by vegetarians now. People can become very sick from the contaminated foods when this happens. Thank you for pointing that out.
My husband could not find non-dairy creamer for his coffee on MSC. Do they not recognize and accommodate passengers with food allergies in the buffet areas? No, they don’t. You must be will to fork out $8-10 EU at the many Pay For Coffee bars to avoid milk on MSC.
Try keeping to the right when on stairs and in hallways. Keeps foot traffic moving.
This should be mandatory viewing along with the Muster Drill Video!
😂👏
Great advice, as always. If I may add a couple things: (1) similar to the caution of playing your Bluetooth speakers too loudly on balconies, be aware that your FaceTime conversations are not particularly interesting to your balcony neighbors. (2) Although I am reluctant to leave room service trays outside the cabin door, I will ask my stateroom attendant what the preferred policy is. If they say leave it out to be picked up by circulating staff, I always cover my used dishes with a napkin. It’s not very pleasant walking back to your cabin to see plates full of half-eaten hamburgers or pizza or French fries sitting in pools of ketchup. (3) Please don’ t try to save theaters seats for your whole family or group of friends. Saving one seat next to you for your spouse or friend is ok, however, as long as you know they will be joining you shortly.
👏👏
I had no idea where to put plates so I’d just take them and put them outside I didn’t know they just take the plates if you leave them on a table
I hate the trays in hallway. I have tripped over them sitting in the middle of the hallway.
why wouldnt they put the food in the garbage? it gets changed daily. Instead of leaving the pfood on the plates.
Apparently common sense isn't so common. These are things you should do in everyday life, not just cruise ships.
Thanks for making this video to help people. It must happen enough that you made a video about this.
Getting off a tender on Sky Princess in USA there were three people at the lifts using disability aids waiting for the lift to arise. As the next lift arrived a tall gent came up the steps and pushed in front of the waiting people to get in the lift. He was not happy when I stopped him so that those with the aids got in to the lift first.
These are a lot of great reasons why I try to just stay to myself as much as I possibly can on a cruise
Most of these rules are just common courtesy, sadly it does seem to require a "reminder" video these days. If people paid attention and treated others with kindness, so many of these rules could just go unspoken forever. Thank you for the video, if everyone followed the hints it contained, imagine how lovely things would be❤.
Agreed, I have done 5 cruises all exit Australia and people have been very courteous. Cruises leaving America or with Americans onboard I would suggest not so much.
One thing I noticed about some parents with small children and even teens is they don't treat them exactly like they would if they were in a city. They kind of let them wander and do their own thing. It always scares me. They need to treat their children in the same way they would in any other environment as far as safety goes. And do not let your child run back to their cabin to get something alone. Thank you.
Everything you said here is 100% relevant. I hope that even 1 person reads this and modifies their behaviour but in the world today that is a big ask.
We had people next to us on a Cruise that let the balcony door slam 50 times a day. Couldn't help hold it back at all.
They had 2 adjacent rooms so both doors were always slamming.
Be Patience Embarking & Debarking. The ship isn't leaving without you and you will definitely getting off when your time comes.
Talk to the crew, break the ice. Sometime they are waiting for you to talk first.
Most of these are just common courtesy for all of life. ❤❤
I just want to say "Thank YOU"!!! I enjoy your videos and this one especially! There's so much rudeness in the world today that gentle reminders are most welcome!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video :)
It’s also kind at the buffet to sit at the smallest available table that will fit your group. If you are two people, don’t sit at a table for 6 if there is a smaller table available.
Amazing how people need to be reminded of common curtosy
I've been preparing for my first cruise by watching your videos. There are very educational and I enjoy the material. Thank you Llana! :)😁
So glad the videos are helpful! :)
❤
Oh my gosh, I have experienced/seen so many of these things. The last cruise we were on (March 2023) the most annoying thing was several of the BRAGGING fellow cruisers. Mostly they were bragging about what they have at home (multiple homes, season tickets on the 50 yard line of their local NFL team... etc). It drove me nuts! These same folks while bragging in one breath were complaining about the cruise in the next breath. I was SO annoyed by them!!! Then there were the lounger hogs........every day the captain himself came on the ship loudspeaker and admonished people for lounger issues! This was on a cruise of 97% adults, so couldn't blame it on the kids!
The braggarts can’t help themselves. They are superficial people with a narcissistic personality disorder. Best to ignore them.
I don't know if every cruise line does something similar but on Norwegian each deck has carpeting with fish (or I think other animals on some ships) that point to forward so you can easily orient yourself, forward/aft/port/starboard
That's clever. I know what port and starboard are but if you don't have the referent then you can't tell.
Certainly agree with the one about complaining about everything. I was waiting to get of the ship at Ketchikan and started chatting with the couple next to me - something I soon regretted. They had not a good thing to say about the cruise - and then were very condescending to me because I said that that was not my experience.
Ugghhh definitely not fun
Yikes
Don't go on a PandO cruise I never met so many miserable people on the one ship lol 😂
😢so sorry I agree what's not to love about Alaska
These people will likely be miserable wherever they go. If you look for things to be upset about, you'll always find them.
This was a list of how to be decent person when around other people.
Don’t take the entire plate of food offered at a station at the buffet. Save some for others! Some seem to pile the plates like they haven’t eaten in days!
The waste at the buffet is appalling.
Hold onto your cabin door!! YES!!
Hubby and I will be on the MS Volendam in June. We had a lovely river cruise last summer on the St. Lawrence Cruise Lines Canadian Empress, but this will definitely be a whole new experience. I've been enjoying all the tips and tricks so far, but being a military wife, and my own family background, much of what you had to say is either common sense, courtesy or decency. I'm reminded of the first hotel stay my toddler grandsons had. They responded so well to "we have to be quiet in the halls incase babies or grandmoms and grandpas are sleeping", the younger one, only 2, reminded his uncle. Unfortunately it's becoming all too common for people to mistake self entitlement for personal rights.
There is a bit of a story about the origin of the word POSH, it helps me to remember. In years past, when peopled travelled by ship, the rich people would travel to India etc and back on the side of the ship away from the sun so POSH means Port out, Starboard home. That means left side out, right side home. Works for me because I am British, not much use if you live in Denver!
Love this one!
Don't wear pajamas to the breakfast buffet 😊
Great vlog Ilana. It is all down to common sense and common courtesy.😊
Think of the elevator as a metro system for the cruise ship. If you’re not going very far at home, you might not take the metro. It’s the same with the elevators.
Why do ships not have escalators? Even when they are broke they are still stairs.
@@webjammer1 I wonder that myself?
1. I can't help passing gas! I don't do it on purpose., I mostly use the stairs so it should not be a problem.
2. Here's something that is good to do. I get up early. I walk around I find crew doing menial jobs - vacuuming, mopping, polishing and such - and I give them a $5 tip and thank them for their efforts to make the cruise a delight.
Not using the elevator so you can fart in peoples faces behind you on the stairs is DEVIOUS 🤣
You can hold a fart. It won't kill you. If you're able to hold a shit, you're able to hold a fart.
@@cowboy8474 I can't do either.
I've cruised with my mom who was in a wheelchair, I so appreciated you commenting on that. I have had to ask some people to get off the elevator and take the stairs to allow room for my mom as we have had to wait for up to 10 minutes to get in. So if you can take the stairs, and there are older or disabled, please give them priority. Especially if it's only a deck or two.
Amen to not loudly using a cell phone around people like some sort of big shot. I truly think that half of the time there is no one on the other end!

Amazed you had to review these points because they really are unspoken rules are the same for everyday life
Sadly, in the real world these rules are often broken but overlooked because there is more space, so bad behaviour has less impact. On a cruise ship, we all need to be better behaved because it’s a small space and even small mistakes have more impact.
One thing that I didn’t like about my one and only cruise is we couldn’t get chairs. They were mostly empty with towels on them. That sucked so bad. We would spend so much time just looking for an empty chair. Other than that, we loved it!
We try to cruise during non-peak times to avoid a lot of children, however, it seems like it doesn’t matter. We have had a few issues with children knocking on the cabin door and pressing all of the buttons in the elevator. Also, standing while having conversations on the track. Very inconsiderate. And when you say something to them, they sometimes give you an attitude.
I really don’t understand why people who can’t be bothered to parent keep popping out kids… social media likes, maybe? 😂
Try Virgin, adults only! We r leaving in two weeks for our first voyage with them…
Celebrity cruises doesn’t have a lot of kids on board. They don’t have climbing walls, bumper cars, etc. We sail off-peak and take long cruises (10 - 14 days) so this is probably another reason that there aren’t many kids on board.
I know I'm about to get alot of flack for this but some parents should consider putting their kids at camp for the week while they cruise. I've seen some parents do some bad things in front of their kids.
Parents don't be on the lookout for their kids and expect others to do so. Kids have been rude jumping in front of people almost tripping them. They put their hands in everything and just be gross.
Kids seem so bored on cruises and of course they get into mischief.
Save your sanity and send them to camp or with a trusted relative. Don't kids go with family for the summer anymore?
Totally in agreement with you!!!
I guess it depends if they want an adult vacation. We took our kids on family cruises & they were amazing, but I hear you
Judging from my last cruise, many parents think that they can have their cake and eat it too - because a ship is a confined area, they can give themselves a break and just let their kids loose. For a long time now, it seems that people just expect the rest of us to be babysitters, but of course they get mad when we dare to correct their little angels.
I tend to agree that - just MY opinion - most cruises aren’t really meant for kids. Accommodations and attractions are added in order to mitigate them lol
Kids are NOT bored on a cruise! And I truly can not believe you suggest they go to camp or stay home. People are SO out of line here! Some cruisers who act like kids are all bad need to go to camp themselves and learn how to play with others nicely.
On an Alaska cruise whale watching excursion last week, there was a woman in our group who took at least 4 calls. Three of them during the bus ride going and returning, but one of them was while the boat was stopped and whales were surfacing around us. She didn't lower her voice at all and it was very annoying to the people around her. She was speaking Spanish so I don't know if the calls were urgent, but judging by her tone and mannerisms they weren't.
I wish every cruiser would watch this video!
I would add to your topics not to bring into general, conversation is don’t talk about money. Another pet hate is to hear seasoned cruisers telling new to cruise folk how much better things used to be before the restart and how many perks they have lost. It’s on a par with discussing what you paid for a cruise or what kind of cabin you are in.
All of your tips are just common courtesy, but I like that you are very diplomatic in the way you express yourself. The rules are spoken in a very complete and nice way. We never cruise on large ships, but the ideas work for every type of cruise.
Truly, wish we could bring back Ann Landers or Dear Abby advice columns, as it seems people are lacking in social graces . Being aware of our surroundings, and being respectful of others is important. We are not by ourselves on this planet, in a store, or on a cruise.
I understand we can all add or detract to the memories of one another on the cruise. I am going to try to walk the fine line and be aware of whether or not someone wants to socialize or wants to be left alone I hope I rise to the challenge as well.
Lol, I read those & always enjoyed the columns
In the past I've noticed these issues and that's why I have decided to be very picky on "when" I cruise and where my cabin is located. And the ship I'm sailing on. Super Cheap cruises attract pigs basically and there's no cruise etiquette that can help them. And I avoid cruise ships with kids.
Love your video. We hang decorations on our cabin door to help us find the right cabin quickly. Note: Please don't steal others hanging items off the door. :(
The thing that ruins it for me is the absurd amount of drunks on cruises. I have been cruising for many years and it seems that there are way more drunks now that there ever were.
I'm embarrassed to say this, but your way of describing Port and Starboard is the best I've heard. Great tips for those of us who are going on our first cruise.
I was told years ago "Do you have any port left?"
Funny story about people who brag about their status. I was on a cruise and some older gentleman who was intoxicated started talking to me and me girlfriend out of nowhere. And literally his third sentence was "So,what's your status?" I knew what he meant but was uninterested in keeping the conversation going. So I said "Status? What's that?" And as he started talking my girlfriend and I put in our headphones and layed back on our loungers. He was sooooo mad and insulted that we didn't even pay attention to him. It was one of the funniest things we've ever had the pleasure to experience on a cruise. We still laugh about it today. Great video.
In the buffet section you mentioned "wash your hands or use hand sanitizer" Hand sanitizer does not kill everything! For your own health, wash your hands! It is also highly suggested to wash your hands after getting your food, before you sit down to eat, because you are touching serving utensils that lots of other people have touched, and they may not have washed their hands before going to the buffet.
I carry a packet of hand wipes whenever I travel - sometimes my hands feel so grubby and I can't get to a sink, and they do a good job. Hand sanitizer doesn't get rid of dirt.
Couple times at a buffet I've witnessed someone licking their fingers after using each utensil. Really drives your comment to home.
Acky
OCD much???!!!
I really think the ship/boat controversy is one of the cruise industry's own making. (The Big Red Boat, The Love Boat). Given these, they ought to cut Boat callers a little slack! 😂
Try calling a Navy battleship, Destroyer or Aircraft Carrier a boat. It well not go over well. Lol
@@barryhuizing2804 a different animal indeed! 😉
I had to look them up to understand your comment. Love Boat (the TV series) ended in 1986. the Big Red Boat (precursor to DCL) ended in 1993. That was over 30 years ago. Sum it up to good marketing or a good memory.
@@CruisingEngineer I'd chalk it up just to me being old! 😉
A boat is Carried on a ship, such as ship’s lifeboats.
Correct on all counts as always. But you could have covered 80 % of it by saying don’t be an asshole. Because some people just are.
Lol, that would have been a shorter video 😂
😊
I love you!
Hope you have a great day!
🤣
If you have headphones for your phone, use it.
For the elevator, pay attention when you are in the elevator, if you have arrived at your floor, be ready to exit the elevator, don't continue your conversation because there are people waiting to get onto the elevator as well.
Also please step far enough away from the elevator that waiting passengers can enter. I have encountered many instances where exiting passengers stand directly in front of the door blocking our way and leaving us to watch the doors to close and the lift to continue on its way.
I am always amazed by the people saving many seats in the main show lounge. Of course, if it’s one or two seats, that is acceptable. But, sometimes, you can see one or two people saving six, eight, ten or more seats. Why? It’s not that the group is going to interact while watching the show. You are there to enjoy the show. Maybe it’s some herd culture with some people. In fact, if I were cruising with a group - not something I would want anyhow - I might cherish the time alone and away from the herders who think the group has to do everything together. When I am sitting in the show lounge waiting for the show, I watch these herders anxiously telling others the seats are saved and their heads constantly pivoting to protect the group’s nest and wondering where there friends are.
I am preparing for a first time cruise and I am finding your advice extreemly helpful. Than you very much. I have now subscribed.
Excellent advice. I've run into all of the above, and have learned to avoid the complainers, people who talk about politics and religion and the braggers.
I love these tips. It’s crazy to think that people need to be reminded of basic manners, but sadly that’s the way many people have become. Thank you for this great video! 😊
Love the info. For me, most of these tips are simply common sense, however....I do understand that common sense is no longer common. I am a fan of your content and maybe our families will meet on a SHIP (not a boat) one day. We're still planning our first cruise. 🤞 🙏
That’s awesome!! It’s definitely possible that we’ll meet one day :)
cruising is really fun and i hope you try it soon.
Common Sense is not so Common 😂😂😂, I'm taking my first cruise next month, so exciting!
If you'd like to use your phone in dark places, there are cheap privacy stickers for your screen meant to keep you screen black to neighbors in public situations, but visible to you when looking straight at it
But if you don't want to see the show then don't watch the show.
@@chrisamies2141 people have many reasons to use their phone, outside of being bored. Altho I agree, if you're bored - leave. But the need for phone usage, still on many people's mind.
In THAT CASE, there are things that keep your screen dark for your neighbors, whilst you can navigate the device.
Why is this a bad thing?
I took my first cruise last week on the Magic out of Norfolk... i know you asked about it before and mentioned it briefly... BUT now that i have experienced it myself, when at the buffet for breakfast - leave the PJs and cabin Robes in the cabin. It was very unsettling to see fellow passengers wearing their pajamas, bed clothes, or even the bath robes to the buffet breakfast. Before i cruised i didnt think i would care, now that i have, it was really in bad taste in my opinion.
Thanks for sharing. I wonder if this varies by ship? Unless it’s Christmas morning, personally I think people should get dressed when going to eat breakfast 😂
@@LifeWellCruised it may vary by ship. I dont have enough experience, lol! I am going to try Royal Caribbean next and see the difference between it and carnival.
I want to thank you for your page, time, and advice! Having never been on a cruise 🛳 before, all of your videos helped me pack amd learn what to expect from the experience. I tell everyone looking at going on a cruise, or more seasoned cruise travelers, to check oit your page! You, Tanner from cruisely, and Matt from RCCB, helped me immensely! Thank you!
Same goes for flying. These days, the airports look like they're just hosting slumber parties. It really disgusts me because, let's face it, people wearing PJs in public really did just roll out of bed. 🤢
We are going on Royal this time (always been on Carnival) for reasons similar to what you just mentioned.
That throws me at hotels, too. And just not supervising their kids at the breakfast buffet. Sounds like it's going to be the same here.
I always take the stairs, that way I can eat whatever I want and not gain wait. 🙂
Great content. Love how clear you are and appreciate the advice!!
I love your videos. I am an upcoming first time cruiser . And your video's have been so helpful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
We are leaving Sunday on our twentieth cruise. Thank you for all of the advice you give. Even though I am aware of most of it, I still enjoy watching you!🎉
Don't feed the seagulls from your balcony. It's not fun being woken up early in the morning thinking you're on the set of an Alfred Hitchcock movie set.
Always great information!! I’m really happy you put in ship time because that’s a real easy way to miss your ship in port!! I always see you’re on vacation relax but be kind others and enjoy yourself and try not to be difficult for anyone, including those you’re sailing with. If you see someone smiling from here to ear, and giggling on a ship, that could be me because I am happiest while on a cruise.
A Lingo comment - For a boating licence, skipper's certificate etc, my memory aid has always been "2 bottles of red port left". Not only does it include left and port, but it includes the red navigation light at night, and the two short blasts you will hear from ships in confined waterways when they are turning to port.
Love that. I shall try to remember it.
this is gold! TY

Just finished our 8 day cruise on Equinox. Just had a fabulous time and food was huge part. I have gluten allergy and they were great in main dining room and having things marked in the buffet area was great. Can’t wait to go again.
Good points in this video. Thank you for sharing!
One of your best videos, Ilana! I've seen all of these happen and it's just good to remind people of them for everyone's sake!
Great tip for port and starboard!
You did a great job of describing all the rude things people do. I just hate it when people let their cabin door slam behind them. It's even worse when they have children. Usually though, most people are considerate and polite. When they are not, easiest thing is to just try to avoid them.
THANK YOU 👍for for mentioning to keep from slamming the cabin door ❤
Something I have seen and actually said something to the person doing this is those cutting in line at the buffet line. Everybody has had to wait and so should the "cutter". I actually had someone try that and their comment was "I'm just going to get this one thing" so I actually had to explain that the rest of us are waiting in line and so they need to do the same also.
Another thing I have noticed at the buffet is young kids reaching in with their hands to grab the food and no one, including the parents, ever said anything to them about it.
Thanks for your educational and helpful videos.
I think you expecting them to wait in the long line just to get one thing is unreasonable. I’d gladly let them do it. No big deal. I’m not talk about someone that is getting a whole plate jumping around
I just got back from my first cruise! 🎉 your videos helped me soooooo much!!!
PS. I have that same dress and wore it on my cruise❤
Treat all of your crew members and your fellow cruisers with respect.
First time on a cruise in a wheelchair. Most people are very respectful at elevators. I generally find Manners at the Lido are the worst. But never ever bad enough to discourage me. But for the most part, very good!
Great tips. Keep up the informative videos.
Absolutely Muppets mayhem is the best in a long time! I’ve seen it twice. Love it!
