A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ RUclips. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of RUclips I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on RUclips won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This RUclips channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different
This is a reaction video used to educated and give my feedback on the song and artist

Prince wrote 'Manic Monday' for The Bangles; he had a crush on singer;)
Everyone had a crush on the singer :)
I still have a crush on her.
Shoot Susanna (Hoff?) Is still my female crush and I'm straight lol
@@liviakelly5691 me too; plus Stevie Nicks;)
I never knew that- I want my mummy
Like every teenage boy in the 80s had a major crush on Susanna Hoff. Course so did Prince.
The Runaways were the first all female rock bands, I think the Go Gos were also before the Bangles.
She's still a fox.😍
Fun Fact: Michael Steele, bass player for The Bangles, started out playing bass for The Runaways, but it was a shortlived stint and was before they had any notoriety.
Never heard of 'The Shaggs' ?? predated all of these ! - check out 'My Pal Foot Foot' and try to avoid self-harming !
The Runaways were NOT the first all female band. But I love them
@@jonsey156 Also “Birtha” and “Fanny”. After The Shaggs but before all these others mentioned
Try "Hazy Shade of Winter".It was a cover of a Simon and Garfunkel song. Also, try "Eternal Flame".It is a love ballad, but a beautiful song.
Both are great, Hazy Shade is a banger!
The guitar riff on that song is awesome
and Manic Monday
Can I like again? Been requesting these for a bit.
Yes, been suggesting Hazy Shade if Winter since the beginning.
Nice - good song. You should also try their song Manic Monday (written by Prince)
👍
Actually they were preceded by & often compared to the Go Go's.
"We got the Beat,"
"Our lips are sealed," &
"Vacation," were some of their hits.
Came here to say this too!
hmmmm, the Runaways, Bananarama, and it feels like I'm missing one, but it may be the GoGo's Im thinking of
@@douglondoner7360 Bananarama is a vocal group, not a band. I know Vicki Peterson in particular makes that distinction. She got pretty mad at an interviewer in the UK for comparing the Spice Girls to the Bangles.
@@hankamania so, they don't count? just asking
@@douglondoner7360 You do realise one of the members (the one on the extreme right of stage in the tiger jacket) of the Bangles was in the Runaways; Ch-Ch-Ch-Cherry Bomb!
You should listen to a group called the Go-Go's
Absolutely! The first all female band to write their own material and play instruments.
@@Santander17Race100 False, they were many bands in the 70's all women.
"July 29, 2020
In March 1982, “Beauty and the Beat” - that classic, effervescent, catch-a-wave-of-pink-champagne debut by the Los Angeles band the Go-Go’s - made history: It became the first record by an all-female group who wrote its own songs and played its own instruments to hit No. 1 on the Billboard album chart. Thirty-eight years later, it’s hard to decide what’s more of a shock: That it took so long to happen, or that it hasn’t happened since."
More The Bangles songs to react to: Manic Monday, If She Knew What She Wants, Hazy Shade of Winter, In Your Room, Going Down to Liverpool
FYI Prince wrote that song (Manic Monday) for them
you forgot Eternal Flame
Eternal flame!
@@bam5971329 ha see there are others
The Bangles do a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "Hazy Shade of Winter." I don't usually like covers, but the Bangles did a great job.
One up this one. Love the S&G version (original?) but I prefer the Bangles version.
So good!!! Yes I vote for this too
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that even S&G liked the cover.
Oooooooh! Special episode review. Listen to both versions.
It's impossible to overstate how huge this hit was. It was everywhere! But as others have said, the first all female rock group to hit big was the Go-Go's. You need to check them out!
Oh yes, this song was huge. The kids would walk down the hallway at school "walking like an egyptian".
Nice hat Bro!!!!
There are 4 members in the group & there was only 3 verses so they put in the whistle part so that all 4 girl's had a section of the song. If you didn't realize it they each sang a verse.
I love MANIC MONDAY by the Bangels as well.
Bangles. Hazy Shade of Winter. My favorite!
Some other tunes by The Bangles
- If She Knew What She Wants
- Going Down To Liverpool
- In Your Room
- Eternal Flame
Susanna Hoffs... the eyes... "walk like an Egyptian"... ICON!
Man I'm back in 80s, just living life, having fun. Songs were just fun. I've seen them live, was lots of fun. ( she did whistle) . I miss the 80s. Try Manic Monday, Prince wrote it. Its the first one of theirs I had heard. 💗 Thanks much for this one. Peace and love
If I could turn back time
"If She Knew What She Wants" is my fav by this band.
Eternal Flame official video by the Bangles is HOT. Susanna Hoffs has been on TouTube during COVID, singing with an acoustic guitar, to cheer up her fans. She is STILL a hottie.
Please, please listen to "Eternal Flame". Your heart will break.
I THINK the first all female band was Fanny, that formed in 1969. The only all female rock bands that I remember from the 80s were the Go Go's, the Bangles & Bananarama.
All Female Rock Bands:
The Go-Gos, The Runaways, The Donna's, Go Betty Go, Betty Blowtorch, L7, Bikini Kill, Dog Party... so many I can't even remember.
I would add Burning Witches to that list as well.
and Girlschool, Vixen...
The Raincoats, Savages, Sleater-Kinney, Babes in Toyland, Kittie...
Fanny from early 70s
Please also add on luscious Jackson, hole, haim, and shine knife!
Susanna Hoffs - a huge teenage crush of mine. Still looks bang tidy at 50+. Unlike me.
Unbelievably she is now 62 and to coin another Kieth Lemon term, FAF.
I never understood why Susana Hoffs’ (the last singer with the sexy eye glance) did not have a more successful solo career. She has everything.
She found Solo singing entirely too straining than being only one of the singers of a group when touring, she said...
There was an all female band by the name of Fanny in 1970 who put out 4 albums on the Reprise label.
The all-lady bands stood on the shoulders of a great all-girl group called "Fanny". Susanna Hoff has great big lovely eyes.
The first all-female band signed for a full album was Fanny in 1969. At the time, they were mostly dismissed as a gimmick, despite being a kick-ass band. The Bangles have specifically cited them as a pioneering source of inspiration. Well worth checking out Fanny's music too! ruclips.net/video/bE3uwtegPEY/видео.html
The Go Go's were an all female group. Also they had several hits around the same time period. Also a group called Fanny was the first all female Rock Band. Check out their song Butter Boy. This song was about David Bowie.
Susan Hoff's eyes did it for me when this video come out. I was in love with that girl. She had a few solo hits as well.
Female Groups were big back then...besides the "Bangles" also check out the "Go Go's" "Bananarama"
Female front women....Heart (Wilson Sisters), Pat Benatar, Blondie, Pretenders, Cyndi Loper , Joan Jett, Toronto, Headpins ...just to name a few!
Runaways. Always Runaways
Such a talented band. Try Manic Monday. In my room. Hazy shade of winter. Bell jar. Crash an burn. Eternal flame. Etc😉❤️🇸🇪
Susanna Hoffs actually still makes music. She also was in the fake band from the Austin Powers movies called Ming Tea. They ended up having a song called BBC. You can't miss her in the video (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)
Classic. Back in the 90's, I was playing in a bar band and this song always filled the dance floor 🎸🎶🎸
The Go-Gos were another all-female band, as was 4 non-Blondes. But I just can't understand reactors haven't yet found Bonnie Raitt (Love Me Like A Man, Unnecessarily Mercinary) , one the best slide guitar players on the planet.
Bonnie Raitt is a fantastic slide guitar player. I've got a whole playlist of slide guitar songs. My Sweet Lord for example.
Prince gave them Manic Monday and it was big
The Go Go's & Vixen are 2 other all female band's that are awesome ✌️
and Heart!
Bananarama was also a female group back then in the 80's. They were rockin' the 80's too. I was a punk back then. ;)
The most influential all-female rock-and-roll groups that preceded The Bangles are The Go-Gos and The Runaways.
The Go Gos were all female band
You are correct. There were not many all women rock groups who play their own instruments as well. There were the Go Go's also but again that's about it. Not many in the entire music history.
From what I remember Fanny was the first self-contained all-female rock band.
First to be signed to major record label to do full albums. They made five albums between 1970 to 75 and all of the are great.
@@keithlarson6229 I still have three of them.
There were actually hundreds of all female groups both before and after
This song was huge. Hazy Shade Of Winter, Manic Monday, and Eternal Flame, too.
You can still see them live, maybe not right this minute, but they are still out there rocking it. And Susanna Hoffs hasn't aged a day.
I had such a major crush on Susanna Hoffs the little dark-haired guitar player who is the last one to say Walk Like an Egyptian with those beautiful gorgeous eyes!!!
This was my favourite song from the late 80s at the time. I think I also fell in love with the last singers eyes :D
At their time, there was a 5 girl group called The Go Gos. They are also well worth checking out. In the 70s there was The Runaways, that had Joan Jett in it, before she was well known.
The whole country went crazy that summer!
The Go Go's was another all female group that was big at the same time.
As far as all female rock groups go, you should check out:
The Go Gos: Our Lips Are Sealed, We Got The Beat
Vixen: Cryin, Edge of a Broken Heart
Plenty of other good songs from this band as well.
Everyone was crushing on Susanna Hoffs!!!
Slide feet up street, bend your back
Shift your arm then you pull it back
Life's hard you know (oh whey oh)
So strike a pose on a Cadillac!
Darn it! Don't have a Cadillac!
Check out a female 70s rock group called Fanny (Genuinely that's their name).
Two all-girl rock groups in the 70s were Fanny and The Runaways. I think Fanny formed before The Runaways. Also, not sure if there were any before them.
Fanny ruclips.net/video/Zcb1HpH42N8/видео.html, turn of the 1970s. Huge in Europe, airbrushed from history in the US. Major acknowledged influence on The Go-Gos , The Runaways and The Bangles.
Also late-60s, Goldie and the Gingerbreads.
Before any of the above, The Liverbirds in the UK
Little Susanna Hoffs is still cute at 61
The two all girl bands that were before the Bangles that I can think of were The Runaways, and The Go Go's
Susanna Hoff....nuf said. I miss the 80's so much. what a fun time to be a young teen. These girls has some great music, need to dive in to that a bit more.
The go gos are another all female band. They had some great ones also
I highly recommend checking out Manic Monday by The Bangles. Prince wrote the song for the band.
Now you should do Steve Martin's
"King Tut"
Yes!! It is a fun song!!
Love that bit. I watch that video when I work out.
We did do the Dance when the Song came on.
Runaways, Go-Go's, and several more.
The runaways were the first. Many talented girls from them. Then the go gos who were before the bangles or same time
Bangles/In Your Room studio version
These women were ahead of their time.
An all girl rock group called "Fanny" was the first one back in the early sixties...
I liked this back in the day. Cheesy but fun. Great reaction. I was watching your past Fleetwood Mac reactions and didn't see you react to Dreams unless I missed it.
Dreams is a must!!! One of my very most favorites ❤
A number of posters have mentioned the GoGos - Another terrific all girl 80's band was Vixen - check them out.
Female band? Bananarama are great bro.
The Bangles are certainly my go to band, especially Susannah Hoffs! Goddess!!!
In your room.
Hazy shade of winter.
If she knew what she wants.
The Bangles are the best selling all female band in history.
They made us all dance in the 1980s as young preteens even in my native El Salvador where I was during the 1980s....
They rock like hell too!!!
You're correct. There aren't a lot of successful all-female rock groups. There's this one, which I love, The Go-Gos, The Runaways, and a couple of pop/rock one hit wonders is all I can think of. Someone help me out, but only list known groups, not local or regional all-female bands.
Such a fun amazing group, love them...Thanks James, super fun...Peace
One thing the Bangles does for this song. Three different women sing each verse solo with the others singing background. It's easy to see it in this video.
When you get to Manic Monday, you'll here their harmonizing backups with full range including low contralto notes.
One more others haven't mentioned.
Dixie Chicks are three singers with incredible musical instrument playing you will be amazed.
There were a couple all-female rock groups in the late-70s and early-80s, and a few others going back to the 60s.
However The Runaways (the most famous lineup is the 1976 personnel: Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Cherie Curie, Sandy West, and Jackie Fox) were probably the first to really get mainstream attention, and they're the ones who really helped open the door for all the acts to follow. Michael Steele, the bass player for the Bangles, was actually the original bassist for the Runaways, but she left before they broke out in 1976. They were followed by the Go-Gos in 1978, with the Bangles themselves forming a couple years later in 1981.
There's a bit of a difference between the Bangles' studio output and their live sound. While they're best known for the 80s pop sound evident in Walk Like An Egyptian, Manic Monday, and Eternal Flame, you should check out their cover of Simon and Garfunkle's Hazy Shade of Winter. Besides widely being considered even better than the original recording, it's a harder, edgier rock sound that is closer to their first album and their live performances.
In 2007 I showed my beautiful grey straight Egyptian stallion at liberty to this song. He could walk like an Egyptian.😁
The whistling was a synthesizer. They visually wanted to give Debbi Peterson more to do, since she didn't get a verse to sing (and she's a great singer), and the producer programmed the drum machine. When they do it live these days, they sing "Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo" in place of the whistling. Also, since Michael Steele left the group in 2005 or so, Debbi sings the second verse and plays acoustic guitar.
“Walk like Your Clit’s Itching!”
My friends and I were so crude in the day!
They were awesome, great unique sound
And yes they whistled it live :)
"Eternal Flame" "Manic Monday"
ohh dear... this brings back some memories as a teenage boy i remember the look from Susanna Hoff in this vid and i fell madly in love..
"Manic Monday" by the Bangles
you should check out the Bengals song eternal flame. It is beautiful just like the lead singer..There was a few female rock groups back in the 80s that were very successful besides the Bangles you had the Go-Go's you had Bananarama, Sister Sledge salt and pepper. and then the single females you had Tiffany you had Debbie Gibson Blondie, Sheila E, Donna Summer Tina Turner women ruled the 80s in other words almost..
This reminds me of the time I went on a trip to Egypt with my grandfather, my friend from school, this Frenchmen we met on the way, a Arab guy my grandad was friends with and our dog. We met vanilla ice and fought with a vampire.
How COOL!! Kevin!! Not only that you got to go TO EGYPT💥, but WHO you went with!!! Great times! Great memories!
❌⭕❌⭕❌⭕❌⭕❌⭕
Runaways with Joan Jett and Lita Ford was one, another band is the Go Go's
& Micki Steele, in both the Runaways & the Bangles... (in tiger jacket)
Oh wow.. Did you guys have the baby? Congratulations!! Great jammin 80s song, good job on the reaction too!
Great group and great song.
I actually saw them live in concert! NYC used to have an outdoor theater next to the intrepid alongside the Hudson River. This was likely 1987. Good times!
Their hit Manic Monday, written for them by Prince.
A lesser known and more recent great song by The Bangles is their cover of Elvis Costello's "Doll Revolution (Tear Off Your Own Head)".
Love the Hat❤
Heart was the first all female rock group I knew. The Pretenders came on the scene soon after as I recall. Circa mid 1960's and 70's.
One of the first all female bands to play their own instruments with Susanna Hoffs up front, and did i mention Susanna hoffs, started in 1981 as garage band, the Go Go's are similar with a more west coast sound check out "Our Lips are Sealed" as opposed to "Alex the seal" hey thats what i thought they were singing
♨️ Eternal Flame was the Bangles big hit, possibly written by Prince
Susanna Hoffs - she's in my top ten of all time. #giggity
Susanna has the most seductive eyes 👀
@@dalesouders4136 In a recent interview she was asked about the side glances. She said that in those early days, she actually did it to avoid stage fright so she didn't have to look directly at the audience.
The Runaways were the first real all girl rock band. Joan Jett founded it and after, became a successful rocker. Lita Ford was the lead guitarist, and she went on to become hugely successful. The drummer was Sandy. She recorded with many bands but died early. The bass player was the bass player for this band.. and this band had many hits. Ya, am members of the runaways had much influence on rock and pop... I love this band. They were really good. Great reaction.
Hazy Shade of Winter by the Bangles. You got too.
TheBangles hate this song lol
They really couldn’t relate to most of the singles the record company had them recording. The only one they thought sounded remotely like “them” was Hazy Shade of Winter which ironically was a cover.
“Eternal Flame is a beautiful song. Whitney Houston should do this song. Why are WE doing it?”
Vicky Petersen
The Bangles
Prince like these girls and wrote them a song called just another manic Monday they also covered hazy shade of Gray which is a really good song
Brilliant feel good song 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
