    Girl, I just need to say that as a swimmer I eat 2 dinners after a 2 and a half hour practice and still manage to maintain my weight while building muscle. I dont think that swimming is counterproductive to losing weight, it's just that everybody has a different metabolic rate. Also it depends on how long you practiced and the intensity of the workout. 300 calories doesnt seem like a lot for a swim session.

      @@khushilangia86 swimming itself is a full body workout so will help lose weight all over anyways. the main tip is consistency, the effort you put in is the results you'll get out. work out on technique, it'll help you swim for longer distances without as much effort so you wont be as tired and be able to achieve better results.
      as for gaining muscles you can isolate your kick with a kick board or use some fins for added resistance, this will build your leg muscles.
      you can isolate you're pull with a pull buoy and use paddles for extra resistance, this will build your arm muscles.
      you should follow a training plan based on your needs, itll help you stay motivated and allow the session to flow easier

As a swimmer who swims during the summer and for my school I recommend using hydrating shampoos and conditioners, if you want to continue doing skincare make sure it’s gentle and hydrating (if it’s harsh your skin most likely will peel) and ofc hydrating soaps, body washes and lotions. Even still it definitely is a sacrifice I find worth taking because I do always feel productive after.

    I think that it is important to note that you are training at a different level than competitive swimmers who have been doing this for years, so while you may not be seeing as good of results I’m about 90% sure you aren’t training nearly as hard as you are on land. It’s the same for me as a swimmer, me doing dry land workouts for 2 hours isn’t going to be nearly as effective than me swimming for 2 hours. It takes practice and time to get at a place in the sport where you are actively losing weight or gaining muscle,whatever you’re goal may be. So please remember this before you go and join a different sport or start doing a different type of physical activity! ❤️

    i’m swimmer. and i just wanted to say that you’ve got to mix things up. in the gym, doing the same routine consistenly for weeks on end will do little muscle growth. when lifting weights, you probably focus on your arms one day and your legs another. the same principle applies with swimming. u can swim w kickboard, to focus on ur legs. swimming is a great way to stay toned, but it shouldn’t completely replace traditional strength training. building muscle through swimming is a great way to stay lean and toned if you go about it the right way. swimming is ideal for just about anyone. regardless of age and condition, the benefits include improved recovery, a solid cardiovascular workout and of course muscle toning and growth. swimming surpasses most other sports in this regard by providing an ideal stimulus for muscle growth right across the body. in particular, the shoulders, abs, back, legs and triceps get consistently worked while swimming.
    btw i really enjoyed this video, wish u the best! saying hi from czechia🤍

    Most don't account that the hunger you get after swimming could just be you being thirsty. I see many people doing a lot of time on the pool and not have a source of water during their workout. Same as if you lift weights or do cardio running or cycling you normally take sips of water during your workout. Many ignore hydration during swim workouts because they're not sweating since they are in the water when you actually still lose fluids in your body.

    For an I guess answer for your question. Yes swimming will make you so hungry after any workout no matter what. I am on a swim team swimming 6 days a week and 2 hours per day. Sure you may feel so hungry but if you keep doing swimming a lot during one week to me it won’t really affect you. Sure you may be losing the same amount of weight just by lifting but swimming is to me way more physical, you have your whole body involved to each stroke you take. I suggest maybe zoning out before the pool, by listening to music, or even stretching out your muscles. Zoning out or stretching is a huge role in swimming no matter what.

    Swimming reduces your body temperature. Drink hot water after leaving the pool. It will make sure you don't over eat. Stick to swimming for upper body workout. Hit the gym for lower body. Sticking to free style and Hip Thrust, Squat, Leg press, Hamstring workout gives a balance body. Great for rock climbing or free climbing.

"Only" doing three times since I also have Taekwondo training 4 days a week every evening. You really encouraged me to start swimming again though , you have a lot of dedication and that's admirable .

    As a swimmer who gets up at 6:00 am during the summers I can say its normal to be STARVING and you have to do you swimming for about 4-5 months (this was for me) to start to gain muscle. But it does feel super rewarding! (I used to hardly be able to swim and now I just 5 of the 7 events I saw at my long course state ) so if anybody is thinking about starting I totally recommend! It is super fun

    Hi Annie and thank you fo the video. I just wanted to point something out that my father explained to me. He was always (and still is despite his age) very muscular and fit, much more than younger men. I asked him how he did and he told me: don't make the muscles bigger e.g. by going to the gym, because this is the kind of muscles that look good but are "fake" aka you loose them quickly as soon as you stop training. Make them instead longer by doing other kinds of sports that combine aerobic exercises such as swimming, basketball, tennis and so on. The muscles you build up like that stay longer and are healthier. If you want to add lifting and gym, that's of course fine and healthy. But Don't build up your muscles entirely on weight lifting at the gym. That's gone in a month or two when you stop. Do instead something that increases long lasting your health, even though it takes more to see results.

      I'm so glad I found your comment cause I just started weight lifting (for weight gain) but i also wanted to increase my stamina and strength to be able to feel good and not only to look good. I was thinking of starting some sort of sport activity or aerobic training along with gym. And this comment proved to me that i should improvise this. Thanks 🤞

    Swim hunger tip.... I swim every day (meaning 7 days a week and twice on Mondays) from 5AM to 7AM and here something I learned years ago. To trick your body into not being soooo hungry throughout the day, give your starving body (due to the workout) food and water within 15 min of the completion of your workout. This can also be a protein shake plus water. I usually leave a banana on the console to eat as soon as I get into the car. I then have an egg or two once I get home. I have a feeling that if you did not do the Chipotle, you would have had better results with the body fat measurements. Also many of these scales with body fat measurements are not exactly super precise. Keep that in mind.
    My average distance is about 2.5-2.75 miles depending on whether I got in the pool on time (talking to the older folks) and on the mix of fin swimming and non fin swimming. I typically do a quarter to half of my swim with fins to ease the stress on my previous non swim related shoulder tear. I am 43 years old and recently retired from the military but got fat during covid.

    • @AbstractDreamz
      @AbstractDreamz 2 года назад +7

      Since I care about this subject, I have a followup to this.
      I also drink about 23.7oz of water (Sams club bottles) per mile while swimming. When I get home, I eat previously air fried turkey slices in a nice romaine lettuce salad with a few olives and ginger dressing. I will then drink 16oz coffee. I am good until the end of my work day after that. If I get hungry before dinner, I snack on roasted no salt sunflower nuts or healthy popcorn.
      The more workout you do, the more eating required. You can stay in calorie deficit and still not die of starvation. Pick lean protein and stay away from fast food. My cold turkey slices are a God send for me. Each slice is about a half dollar coin in size and about a quarter inch thick. Get hungry, grab 3 or 4 slices out of the fridge. Go about your day.

      Have you lost weight with swimming? I've been making diet changes for a couple of months now and am trying to now find ways to add working out. I've been doing the resistance weight machines but no cardio because I injured my back and find that the impact of jogging puts me out of commission of anything for several days. I've swam the past two days and really enjoyed it. There's a peaceful aspect to it and my back isn't out at the end of it. In fact, my back feels better today than it does most days. I usually avoid working out in the mornings because of the amount of time to get my back warmed up and moving. But I think swimming is something that I could make part of my morning routine. I'd love to know if it will actually help me with not only my health goals but my body weight and appearance goals.

    • @AbstractDreamz
      @AbstractDreamz 2 года назад +3

      @@charitylmc Wow....let me try to say this clearly. Swimming is an "all over" exerise. Not ony should you lose weight and tone your body all over but it will benefit your heart, lung and mind health. If you are able to keep that after swim hunger in check and the swim coma under control, you will have energy, you will be more alert and feel better during the day. The overall benefit of swimming is one that I have never been able to match.
      I use swimming as warmup ana also as a recovery for other exercises too. Swim 30 min before or after a workout or both and you will pump a ton of blood through your achy muscles which will help reduce much of the soreness. Do not forget about water. You lose a great deal of water while swimming but you do not realize it.
      Congrats on finding this secret gift of swimming. Many people never find it. Just remember, swimming is perhap the only workout that you can do daily from the time you are born until you die without a huge impact on your joints. It is a gift 🎁. Enjoy it!

      @@AbstractDreamz Thank you for such a full response. I greatly appreciate the encouragement. I think the notion of no pain no gain is often a detriment to people (myself included) engaging in exercise activities. Swimming doesn't have that same sore factor (more of a tired muscle than aching like with weightlifting) and if you were to break a sweat, you wouldn't notice because you are already wet. I think it gets stuck in this subgroup then as being "not serious exercise." I followed up my question to you with my health coach and she completely agreed with everything you said. So, thanks, again!

    Tips for any new swimmers out there (this is purely based on my personal experience and opinion, you don’t have to agree with me! just do whatever works for u!) :
    1. i would swim in the afternoon instead of morning. i can make myself go to practice way more often (stay consistent) and after a hard day of school, practice beats it out of me and i become way more relaxed! also if where you practice is outdoors, the temperature will be warmer at 3 pm rather than 6 am for example. however, i love occasional morning practices to get my morning started or just change up my swimming motivation.
    2. swimsuits, caps, etc from the company TYR are super good and stay on well. that’s what my team uses and i have never had any issues with my cap or suit (comp suits will obviously be super tight but that’s just how they are)
    3. remember to pace yourself. lots of new swimmers, including me when i was new, think that they have to measure up to the varsity swimmers. do not have the mindset! go slower than everyone else in a practice or race if you need to. when i started swim i couldn’t even swim a 25 without feeling like i was going to drown, but with time and practice i got up there. you can too!
    3. everyone on my team does it differently but i would wear a high bun with no stray hairs out for when you wear your cap and put the sides of the cap over your ears. that with your goggles will keep it on super good. again, the caps from TYR are my personal fav. if you can’t put on the cap yourself then ask someone to help you. there plenty of people around that have helped people get capped before and they won’t refuse
    4. Use very hydrating shampoos/conditioners/other hair products to try to fix your hair issue. your hair obviously isn’t going to be perfect (because your hair will get wet no matter how well you cap is on) but it will make things much better. also stick to that skincare routine AND SUNSCREEN EVERY DAY to keep that skin good!! body care too. gentle body wash, lotions, shaving creams, etc.
    that’s all i can think of right now, i’ll come back if i think of anything else! amazing job to you, annie for WILLINGLY getting into the pool at 6 am!! i would genuinely never get in that early. it takes serious willpower to do this every morning and it will seriously pay off. i would love to see more swim videos!
