I am not sure the level of research that Steve does but I am sure it is more than enough. He consistently gives us a complete overview of cars oh and wait, more thing, its free! He is offering his opinion and an educated one at that.
You forgot to mention that unlike the Land Rover, this one will not spend half its life at the dealer service dept.

Exactly your right it was taken from a 25k truck and put in a 100+K SUV... I remember that this can tow 9,000 pounds and the new 4.7 liter in the benz can tow 8900 pounds ( 99.99% of people owning these cars never tow anything so those are just numbers to show off, what is important is the actual power that these cars put down since they are extremely heavy. I loved Lexus back in 2006-2007 but there lack of upgrades in the new model lineup have turned me off.

The Range Rover you buy with your heart. The Lexus (or Land Cruiser) you buy with your brain.
The only thing the RR has over the Lexus is its looks, hi-way ride and price. The Lexus is (much) more reliable, bigger, more practical, better off-road, has better fuel economy, has a higher owner satisfaction rating... just to mention a few.

2013 land cruiser has all these shinanigans except the power tail gate and air suspension for like 10k less :o
Mercedes lists their V8 engine in the GL450 & GL550 as having 4.6-liters of displacement...but that's splitting hairs. Nevertheless, I was just responding to your initial comment that was based in emotion and not in fact. Like I say in my LX review, drivers won't likely take it off-road but if you buy an SUV that comes fully equipped to do so you've got to pay the price. So I think comparing the LX to the GL is a little like comparing the RX to the ML.

We had out old lx470 for 14 year and decided to change it to new one , cos its worth it , even tho it's a gas guzzler it save you on repairs :)

Over here in Europe we have this car selled under Toyota and it's calle Land Cruiser Station Wagon V8 or simply Land Cruiser V8
This is EXACTLY how me and my dad like the LX and if we get $89,000 we would buy it like this

Couple of points: 1) The 2013 GL comes with a 4.6-liter biturbo V8 that either makes significantly less horsepower (GL450) or slightly more (GL550.) 2) The GL550 does not cost less. If you comparably price one against the LX you'll see it's almost $20,000 more and even the GL450 optioned like this is about the same price. 3)Which one are YOU taking off-road? A Land Cruiser (which is what the LX is) or a unibody GL? Not even close. What "research" did you do to call the LX a POS?

This is awesome, reliability is a 10, 300k 500k miles later everything will still work like new with rountine maintenance.

Neither the GL nor the Q7 can hold a candle to the LX's durability and capability.

+Jason Lee no question, this truck is much more comfortable and have better off road capability than escalade, not to mention the best reliability of toyota and lexus too, also check out the newer version of 2016 lx which is much better than the 2013 one

To an extent it is.
Definitely not the base model of the Land Cruiser, but the top model of the LC, maybe close.

I have '99 LX470 with 150k. Engine drive terrain is a tank. But lotta electrical problems broken and leaky sunroof, broken radio antenna, CD changer broken. At least repairs shouldnt cost that much

Locking center differential, driver easy access on/off switch and Roll Sensing Side Curtain Airbags off switch, in case you're off-roading and don't want an inadvertent deployment.
But it will cost you $20 grand in repairs after the warranty expires. Lexus are the most reliable cars in the world........ Mercedes / BMW etc lost it years ago.

I'd get a chevy SUV thing before I'd get any of that british unreliability. It's a cheaper car and is much cheaper to service and to run. Is anyone going to take it off the road anyway?
I personally like the Ranger Rover in terms of styling far more than this Lexus although the Lexus will be bulletproof reliable. It will have expensive parts but it won't break quite as much an a Range Rover will.
I think he was referring to the Range Rover.
The new one is twin turbo charged to get those numbers, hardly a feat and not always advantageous in this type of car. If they could do it without forced induction then you'd have something.

the GL550 will win hands down, it is turbo-charged compared to a nautrally aspriated engine. put a TRD supercharger on toyota's 5.7L you would be making near 500hp and atleast 100lbs more torque.

I would only buy one of these or a Land Cruiser because their one of the worlds most reliable cars. Otherwise the LR4 is a better rounded SUV.
nice, but wayy to expensive. I have only seen ONE of these on the road since the redesign a few years ago...Lexus and off road dont really go together to me, so why is Lexus still trying to push this thing?

The 3.0L diesel version gets 38 mpg, bring that version to the US market would kill Ford, GM, and Cadilac.
