@Wong Kar-Chazelle let's compare the coaches and teams Lions had vs playoff teams. The Lions have been a laughing stock for a reason. Look at what he did with a good team, good protection, and a good defense. He doesn't have a good running game still performed
The league is pass happy but that hasn't filtered down to the lions yet. Stafford head coaches where Jim Caldwell...old school tradition coach, Jim Swartz...Defensive coach and Matt Patricia...a defensive coach. @@Nedo_ao no but neither does what Rodgers has done. Isn't greatness, measured by what you do in the grand stages? His teams have had 1 great postseason. He wins divisions in a bad division. He's regular season one of the all timers but blows chunks in the postseason

Hall of fame standard should be this simple: have a total of 3 ALL PROS (not pro bowls) and/or 3 seasons where you LED THE LEAGUE in a major stat Ex: For qbs: pass yards, TDs, passer rating, qbr, ypg, ypa etc For rbs: rush yds, rush Tds, scrimmage yds, scrimmage TDs, ypg For wr: receiving yds, receptions, rec TDS, ypg For DL/edges: sacks, TFL, QB hits, Forced fumbles For LBs: tackles, FF For DBs: INTs, FF
He’s not a hall of fame player right now but he will be at the end of his career. That Super Bowl does wonders for his case because his numbers will be where they need to be in a few years.
He will make it eventually. Maybe not first ballot, but when you hold so many team records (all the Lions'), and have top 5 yards and TDs, and #1 all time in game winning drives (currently tied for 7th all time, only 12 behind Manning for #1 with 5-6 years to play), a top 7 playoff QBR, top 4 all time yards per game, and you've thrown three of the top 5 WR seasons EVER (Johnson twice and now Kupp), it's not lowering the bar. It's allowing for the fact that one of the greatest QBs ever had to play on a bad team with worse personnel, awful coaching and the worst ownership since 1960. Pro bowls are not a good measure. The fact that Kirk Cousins was in the probowl and Stafford wasn't is just f'n ridiculous.
Most GWD doesn't mean as much when you throw so that many interceptions... Stafford maybe a HoF eventually if he plays on a winning team for the rest of his career but putting up stats on a trash team isn't really HoF material.
So, let me ask you a question Acho? If you have to come from behind more than any other quarterback, does that have anything to do with your defense giving up points or, are you saying that Stafford is at fault for always having to come from behind? Which by the way is most likely the reason he got so good at it.🤔

Colts (with Manning/Luck) for most of the last 20 years. Saints with Brees 10-12 years.. The common denominator? Good franchises typically in terms of GM/Owner. The Lions are the worst professional franchise in all of the major sports in the US. The Lions have 1 playoff win in their entire NFL existence. Meanwhile, 3 expansion teams in the last 25 years (technically 5 with the Ravens/Browns nonsense), have all made the playoffs, won playoff games, and 2 of them have played in Super Bowls.
I would love a response to this question, especially from Emmanuel Acho. How many superbowls would Brady, Rogers and Breeze have, if they would have been drafted by the Lions? My answer would be zero for all of them

Stafford's situation is 100% a direct result of playing for the Lions. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs their head examined. Calvin Johnson aka Megatron - arguably the best WR in the history of the NFL in the last 30 years and possibly all-time 6x Pro Bowler 3x First Team All Pro 1x Second Team All Pro 2x led NFL in receiving yards 1x led NFL in receptions And who was his QB? MATTHEW STAFFORD.... This was also legitimately the only real serious weapon Stafford ever had in Detroit... had he landed anywhere else in the NFL he would have a lot more respect on his name. The two greatest players in the history of the Lions (Sanders/Johnson) both retired instead of continued playing for a terribly managed and losing franchise.
Its a NO right now. Why the media start this while Stafford is still playing? He's got time and since he's in a better situation, pro bowls and all-pros has a good chance of coming to him. Sherman was just responding to what the media especially DAN ORLOVSKY was trying to put out after stafford won the super bowl.

I’m with you. Brought up excellent analogies to make their perspectives relatable and understandable. I’m on the side that Stafford is a HOF, even before rams. Just would have taken awhile.
Why are we discussing this now. Can the guy finish his career first, then we can discuss his career. The come from behind wins are important, it proves he can get it done. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning has a lot of come from behind wins but the media respect it when they do it tho. In the playoff he proved he was clutch against bucs, 49ers and bengals. If he wins another Super Bowl and finish in the top 5 in passing, and TDS , it will be difficult not to have him in the HOF. But let us see how it plays out first.
Like for real. They have nothing to talk about until the NBA playoffs. NOT everyone is meant for the Hall of Fame, with or without a SB ring. Its not meant for everyone
Acho that HF flip flop example was epic. What has to happen for Stafford to get into the Hall? He chose his career path in Detroit. He never worried about being cut and got paid for 15yrs. That could hurt him in the voting. But he got Megatron in.
If the rams go on a run and win another SB or 2 then he’s a HOFer. But if he were to retire today then no. The HOF is supposed to be the most elite players of all time. How could you be considered one of most elite all time when you weren’t considered one of the elite of your era?
Stafford was never even top 5 QB in any of his seasons Fouts and Moon were (if you’re gonna try to compare era, compare them for how they were perceived in their era)
@Jay20431 i disagree, we can't compare eras anymore (the game has changed too much) so i must compare you in your own era, and if you're 10th ish best, then there's your answer. Not everyone in this era should go to the hall Flacco had some good years and was a big reason the ravens won a ring. He's not hall worthy, so just b/c Stafford has more empty stats shuldn't matter. Now, he's still got 3-5 more good years left so he's got time but right now? Nah
Don't hate the player! Hate the game! And let's face it, there are a lot of guys in the Hall of Fame that have not won a super bowl. I think it's unfair to judge Matthew Stafford while he is still playing football. We all know by the time he gets through playing football, he will be well deserving of a trip to the football Hall of Fame. I think we live in a society today that is based on accolades, but what about merits? Let's just wait until he retires, and then address whether or not he is deserving of the Hall of Fame. He's a great guy! A super human being! Perseverance wins sometimes! 💖
This isn’t anything new. Every time a team wins a championship, the “star player ‘s” legacy and HoF chances are always a Sports debate or dialogue. Lebron’s legacy was being debated while he was in high school for god sakes. So it’s nothing personal towards Stafford. By the way, it’s his 13th season, so how many more do you think he still has left in him ? Barry Sanders played for the Lions and won the Rookie of the year, NFL MVP, 10 Pro Bowl Selection , 10 All-Pro Selection and rushed for 2,000 yards in a single season. Only player to rush for 1,000 yards in 10 consecutive seasons. You can make a case that Stafford played on a stacked Rams team.
Matt Ryan a hall of famer? He’s got more yards than stafford. Rus Willson will finish with similar yards and all the qbs playing now will pass him. So in his own class is he a hof I’d say no not at the moment. Time will tell
Ask Warren Moon, Dan Marino, and Dan Fouts which one they'd rather have . Ill assume Stafford appreciates having the Super Bowl. He'll get in Canton sooner or later.
I feel what everyone is saying regarding pro bowls but c'mon he literally had to die and revive himself every year for the lions while putting up 4000+ yards and 25+ touch downs every year. You see what happened when you put him on a good team super bowl first year. I feel as tho his accolades shouldn't be heavily favored since he was severely held back by a terrible organization with no help except for Calvin Johnson.
But that’s literally how the league decides who’s the best of the best all pros & pro bowls this a pass happy league them yards count but not really no more
Everyone of the qb’s in the hall of fame played with all-pro defences so I don’t get your point. He gonna finish top 10 in all major passing categories amd he got a sb so i dont see where he not a hall of famer
I tried to make a rebuttal with your statement but I can’t. Even when Rodgers and Payton manning won SB they had either an all pro defense or a really good one. All current QBs that I can think of that I consider HOF had at least very good defenses in years they won the SB (rogers, both mannings, Big Ben, Brees)
Man people just can’t give the man some respect. He just won a super bowl and now people are already trying to talk down upon him. Just let the man enjoy his win. He deserves it.

You get a lot of endorsements from being a legend of the game if you take that away he’s just some guy who played good in his era and no one will ever want to own his piece of merchandise. Nope.
Hall of fame standard should be this simple:
have a total of 3 ALL PROS (not pro bowls)
and/or
3 seasons where you LED THE LEAGUE in a major stat
Ex: For qbs: pass yards, TDs, passer rating, qbr, ypg, ypa etc
For rbs: rush yds, rush Tds, scrimmage yds, scrimmage TDs, ypg
For wr: receiving yds, receptions, rec
TDS, ypg
For DL/edges: sacks, TFL, QB hits, Forced fumbles
For LBs: tackles, FF
For DBs: INTs, FF
A committee would have to look over your suggestions and come to a collaborative agreement

I agree with Mr. Wiley this time. Richard Sherman always find a way to hate on the Rams.
Holding all of the records for one of the most losing franchises is not a HOF player. Don't forget, Stafford had Megatron for 8 seasons.
Most GWD doesn't mean as much when you throw so that many interceptions... Stafford maybe a HoF eventually if he plays on a winning team for the rest of his career but putting up stats on a trash team isn't really HoF material.
Boa Steakhouse should start answering their phone "Bank of America Steakhouse"...
So, let me ask you a question Acho? If you have to come from behind more than any other quarterback, does that have anything to do with your defense giving up points or, are you saying that Stafford is at fault for always having to come from behind? The common denominator? Good franchises typically in terms of GM/Owner. The Lions are the worst professional franchise in all of the major sports in the US. The Lions have 1 playoff win in their entire NFL existence. Meanwhile, 3 expansion teams in the last 25 years (technically 5 with the Ravens/Browns nonsense), have all made the playoffs, won playoff games, and 2 of them have played in Super Bowls.

3x First Team All Pro
1x Second Team All Pro

1x led NFL in receptions
And who was his QB? MATTHEW STAFFORD....
This was also legitimately the only real serious weapon Stafford ever had in Detroit... had he landed anywhere else in the NFL he would have a lot more respect on his name. The two greatest players in the history of the Lions (Sanders/Johnson) both retired instead of continued playing for a terribly managed and losing franchise.
Its a NO right now. Why the media start this while Stafford is still playing? He's got time and since he's in a better situation, pro bowls and all-pros has a good chance of coming to him.

Acho's inflation argument is lacking. If Stafford finishes top 3 passing yards. Then he would pass those who played when he did.
