Reds fan here. I watch them almost every night. The key to Votto's swing starts with his plate discipline. He is willing to walk. It is all about not making outs first and foremost.
For sure!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ray Price for a guy that loves the 3-0 pitch I wouldn’t say he is crazy about walking . But great hitter for sure . #GoREDS
One of the most prolific hitters in MLB history, but doesn't get the recognition he deserves because he plays in such a small market on a team that's been non-competitive for so long.
Joey Votto is a huge disciple of Ted Williams.
High Level Pattern (HLP) swing - you can learn this watching Teacherman Hitting channel
Always impressed by votto and his choking up on the bat and whip. He's the Charles howe iii swing but baseball. Instead of throwing to the ground he throws to the inside.....kinda like that one tee drill video you have up actually now that I think of it lol.
Another fella that was really good at pulling his hands in and turning was Bobby Abreu you should do him next!
Cool points! I'll find some Bobby Abreu video! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great analysis, Matt. Votto slots shoulders and elbows perfectly, engaging his core muscles, which are in the shape of an 'X' (serape effect). Your video shows that 'X' pattern being applied.
Joey Votto is "just a really good hitter"...NO. Joey Votto is one of the best hitters in baseball history. Better than Willie Mays or Hank Aaron (so far), better than Mark McGwire or Wade Boggs or Mike Schmidt or Reggie JAckson or A-Rod, or just about anyone not named Ruth Gehrig, Bonds, or Williams. He's on the same level as Mickey Mantle, Ty Cobb or Frank Thomas. this guy is unbelievable....Look at that career OBP or OPS+ A walk is as good as a hit!
Joe Marshall totally agree
I am a huge Votto fan, but you are severely underrating Mays and Aaron. I'd take either over Mantle.
Joe Marshall this comment didn’t age well...
@@masterofyeets4850 tell that to Vottos 2000 hits.
My favorite Reds moment from last year was always Gennett’s 4 home runs in one game!
Unfortunately, Votto doesn’t have the power he used to. Any idea as to why? I’d like to see a breakdown of his swing now compared to 2 seasons ago when he hit 36 HRs.
Turned it around in 2021 for sure!
@@guitarkoala5 jinxed it. He’s baaaack
What is it like in the dugout in a no hitter/ perfect game situation. How does the atmosphere change?
Gets quiet! lol. Nobody talks to the pitcher. Thanks for watching and commenting!
During his five seasons in the minors, Votto carried Ted Williams' The Science of Hitting with him
Matt where is Votto turning the barrel in this video? And what does he do to stay back like that? Cause one of my main problem in my swing is going forward in my stride.
He stays around his back leg really well and when he launches his upper body is launched back. Keeps him front getting too far forwards. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Joey Votto is the goat 🐐
ShaneFromTheNorth yes he is
Yup!!!
Can you do mookie betts and Jose Ramirez
I have a Mookie Betts coming and will try to do Ramirez too! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Biggest thing I see, that I have trouble with kids, is that his front arm never comes straight till almost after he hits the ball, allowing for him to keep a short swing to get to the ball, while keeping his bat in the zone for a long time. Or am I seeing this wrong?
I think you see it pretty well! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have a theory about left hit right throw, why are they so rare for powerful hitter. Is that when they pull back their right arm will be extremely tight since right arm will always have more muscles. Even if a player doesn't do any work out they still throw a quite lot everyday. So when the right arm gets tight while pulling back it won't extend to the best lengh so hitter will lose power. Especially for position players who have to throw a lot like catcher, ss, 3b. They will have to be very strong to hit for power if they bat on left
Interesting thoughts!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hi
Hi!
Hi!
I'm a Yankees fan but Votto is one of my fav players to watch...Amazing plate discipline.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Modern day Ted Williams
He is a stud!
Looks a little like he pre-loads into his back hip? Or maybe the video starts a bit late. Might be why he is so quiet because he’s got very little negative move to load that hip, before his stride. One of the few guys with a leg lift that stays so far inside his back foot.
Yeah absolutely!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Big leg kick, quiet upper body, really good power L
For sure!!! Thanks for commenting and watching our videos!
Votto’s left arm is what stands out to me. Initiates great bat path. Excellent breakdown Matt!
I like it! Thanks for watching and commenting!
it’s really his bottom hand that controls his bat as he throws righty dominant hand on the bottom
Did anyone know that Votto is right handed? Just Imagine if he could put all his strength in the ball.
Controlled violence! Oppo tacos for days!
Yup!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I hit with the exact same philosophy
Trying to be Pete rose I hate when he squats leads the league in talking strike threes
That was a couple years ago he finally got his mind right
First comment, let’s go

Maybe some people enjoy these swing videos, but they're very boring to me. I much prefer the insider type videos you do where you break down questions. That to me is much more interesting than a 6 minute video of watching a guy swing in slo-mo. I enjoy your content in general, so I'm not hating, just giving an honest opinion.
BroImMcLovin thanks! Some people like the mechanics videos more than the other ones, so just trying to give a little bit of everything for people. Thanks for watching!
