I thought I recognised the interviewer's voice-obviously the voiceover ending for Rockonteurs. Well done Ben for producing a brilliant series.

Such a humble man just like his brother. I am so proud to have seen them live many times. It’s a pity they will never play together again😢

He’s not humble, he invented arrogance. It’s all because of him we will never see Spandau again. His ego was bigger than the band could bare.

@@j.schermer3523you actually know that? When the other four members of the band were keen to accept offers of concerts, tours, television work,festivals,etc..,Tony repeatedly refused. Gary was the one who said all or none. After two years, they had no choice but to ask Tony if he wanted to be in Spandau Ballet or be solo. He said solo. He then claimed he was “pushed out”. I have been introduced to and spoken to all of them. I’ve spoken to Gary since MySpace days-on there, and in person-and he is very sweet and humble.

@@RhondaKL Tony had already told them in 2015 that he didn’t want to work with Spandau for a couple of years. Maybe they were keen on accepting offers of lucrative stuff, but they knew Tony wasn’t available for Spandau. Mind you, he had to start a solo career because the Kemps started a film career in 1990. He had al the right to focus on his solo career now. In 2017 Gary remastered the Barricades album and probably wanted to tour again. In this way he forced Tony to work with them again. That’s why Tony left. The footage there is from that time is painful to watch. After Tony had left, Gary suddenly told the press how much he had suffered on the last tour, because he couldn’t bare Tony’s ‘stupid jokes’ anymore. Gary always tell a story that’s most suitable for his situation at that moment. That means he tells a different story all the time.

@@j.schermer3523 Tony’s own interview mentions his going to Australia after the tour in 2015,and not agreeing to any of the offers. He never told them he wanted to go solo at that point. He even said he wasn’t sure what he wanted. Two years later, they had a meeting with him and asked him outright.

Mediocre songwriter, egomaniac who ruined his band on numerous occasions. Too bad he is NEVER asked what he did to force Tony to quit, as well as second lead singer. I know he would lie but at least ask.

    • @RhondaKL

I know the answer. After their last tour,Tony told them he needed time off to spend with family. Obviously, the guys were fine with that. But Tony immediately went to Australia for a solo he had booked for himself. Spandau Ballet were being offered lucrative deals for new albums, concerts, festivals, and television appearances. All four band members were keen to do them, but Tony rejected them all. Gary stressed it was all of them or none. After two years, they had to outright ask Tony if he wanted to be part of Spandau Ballet,or did he prefer to be solo. He told them solo. I already knew about that from speaking to one of the guys, but recently an article came out interviewing Tony, and it told the exact same story. Tony was angry that he was confronted and asked to make a decision-a decision he had already made;just not told them. But it wasn’t fair on the rest of the band. They spent two years waiting for him to say “okay” to something.
