TFSI engines need a complete refresh of the timing at 90K miles that also include checks of the High Pressure Fuel Pump that is notorious for eating up the cams! To me it sounds more that the fuel pump is eating the cams! :-) if it hasn't started the follower is only $5 bucks.. It might answer why the rough idle.

I’m getting PTSD from reading this because my FSI MKV VW GTi had the hpfp failure you described. Ate the lobe right off the camshaft and it was game over after that… Who tf thought a bucket cam follower was a good idea 🤦♂️

2013-2017 Ford Ecoboost four cylinders have the same designs fixed with a roller at later years! Ask me how I know so much about both of them 😁 I'll give you a clue I never learn from my mistakes! 😭
17:07 - I love the contrast between the guys ensuring us the car is "very nice", "very refined", "feels solid", "it genuinely feels like a quality product" and the reality of the car being an unreliable piece of sh*t just moments later. 😀 In my head they are sitting by the side of the road in a car with a broken engine still going on an on about how lovely the switch gear is and how there's no rattle in the interior.

Just prepare for enormous oil consumption, lukely it can be fixed with aftermarket pistons and rings!
What's crazy is Audi says a litre of oil every 2k miles is within spec! 😮

@@gazcolman9184 In the Netherlands both Volkswagen and Audi claim 1 liter of oil in 1000km is acceptabel. With that much oil burned it’s a rolling environmental disaster.
B8 are always a gamble with shitty odds.

the citroens get alot of stick, yet ive had 3 of them now and there some of the easiest cars to drive, yea the older ones have some electric issues but anything after 08 ive always found to be dead good. cheap to run, easy to drive, repairs are normally buttons, and the drivers seat is honistly one of the nicest for any form of distance driving
They have always been really nice to drive and thats part of the issue . Something you like lets you down it falls harder .

Shame the Audi didn’t work out. I’ve had a similar 2008 A4 Avant (black, 2.0 TFSI) as my daily for almost 3 years now, and I’m really impressed with it. Usually I’m more of a BMW guy, but after my constantly leaking E46 I wanted something reliable, and this Audi really hasn’t faulted me. Bought it with 185k km, I’ve since put 35.000 km on top without any major technical issues. And while I have been looking for cars I could potentially replace it with, I haven’t really found a more complete package for the money - the Audi is reliable, spacious, comfortable, high quality, quick, efficient, has a great interior and is still beautiful to look at today (with nice wheels on it at least)… These are great cars!

Im doing headgaskest weekly im a mobile mechanic, you didn’t checked the whole surface of the head , and you don’t need to remove the valves ect for the head to be skimmed never ever removed them if the valves are sealing properly. And you don’t need to use a thicker head gasket if the head hasn’t been skimmed in the past , even if it has been reskimmed in the past one time you still can use an oem headgasket , you use a thicker head gasket if you reduce the compression ratio.
I did think that also ..... used to be common to skim the head to increase the compression for a bit more go but you would always use a OE headgasket . If you turboed anything then fit 2 to reduce compression etc .
I would have at least run a whetstone over the mating surfaces. An old trick is to use ink and a rubber roller, coat the mating surface, then long flat strokes with the whetstone, or a machined block of steel with some fine emery cloth glued to it. Light spray with wd40 and work it until you remove the ink. It's not perfect like a proper surface grind, but a damn sight better than nothing at all if you are in a pinch or low on $

Definitely didn’t expect the Cactus! They’re a bit marmite, my wife bought hers brand spankers back in 2015 for 13k after I got forces discount. It’s been faultless and is still our go to family car if we go anywhere with the kids. It’s a great cheap runaround.

As an previous owner of an N14 R56 JCW, I would never recommend a R56 MINI, however, if you want one, this generation of the R56 MINI is the desirable one, as it comes with the N18 engine.

6:05 undo headbolts from outside in says Practical Physics = Engineering not as your local YT mechacknic says "inside out". Load constrained fasteners allow upward bowing of the head when loosening middle bolts first. Best to loosen outside bolts first, allow any load in the head outward into free space, diminish any buckling action.

I'll tell you what guys, I was given a Citroen Cactus 2018 1.2i petrol company car even tho I hated french cars,and I spent about a year trying to kill it,because I wanted an AMG or a Lexus the same as the other Area Managers,trust me when I say that little car grew on me really quickly,absolute bulletproof and it refused to die,I was a bit gutted handing it back when I left.
Always liked the gen 1 cactus. I heard in France the auto can come with a front bench seat. For some reason ive always wanted a car with a front bench.

Like James, I wanted a work car just to carry my work stuff around and do tip runs. Didn't want a diesel, estate or French. I got a 407SW tdi and its great. Cost £500 with an MOT. Does 39mpg around town & next village with 180k on the clock. Wife prefers it to the Calibra v6!

The Citroen is let down by the doors I think there would be more on the road if they had normal doors, if they don't bother you then they are a reliable motor.

Another common reason for finding combustion gasses in coolant is the egr valve
Does the 1.8 TFSI have an EGR valve?

@@9wowable it will have one but if the combustion gasses are getting into your coolant it’s likely the egr cooler that’s what happened with the one on my focus st the plastic egr cooler was cracked and letting combustion gasses into the coolant although I have no familiarity on your particular engine and obvs every manufacturer has there own ways to do stuff when I had my polo it wasn’t a water cooled egr meaning it wouldn’t suffer the same way as my focus but that’s a 2003 so obvs things have changed over the years

13 years old. So it's old, they're very common in the UK, and R56 Cooper S's are notoriously problematic. They're at the state of being common but cheap, in a few years they'll start getting scarce and expensive. Same as 90s Japanese sports cars in the 2000s.
It's a 61 plate meaning 2011 and it's a common car that is known to break often. So people generally aren't interested

On the Audi, you should check the camshaft adjuster valve. Sits in the camshaft right behind the actuater you just replaced. Also the camshaft "bridge" wich is bolted on provides the oil to that valve. If you take the bridge off you will see a little metal filter/screen that can be clogged up and not provide enough oil to the valve. It still could be a chain issue though.😅
I'll never rely on an Audi ever again, I swear it's plastic on wheels 😭
I have a Audi A3 8p 1.9 TDI with 475k miles. Clutch is perfect and it's been remapped to get 65mpg. And not an inch of rust. Them PD engines do not die!!!!
