Man I cannot remember the last time I honestly was anticipating and excited about new content being released from a channel. These are awesome Matt. Keep it up my guy 🤘
@matthorndrums I have so many questions that I would like to see a pinned response. First off what band are you setting up for ? Why use Remo heads vs Evans? Why Meinl Cymbals? Are these Industry standards or just specific to band preferences and other musical style preferences. I play with 3 kits Gretsch , Mapex and Yamaha . I know DW is amazing but out of my current price range. What is the purpose of the practice kit if you do this regularly ? Even if setting up for artist to practice? I just played a gig Saturday and then followed with a band practice with my second band on Sunday. I tour with the Mapex and use Gretsch @home for practice and use a Yamaha at 2nd band rehearsals. I tried Meinl customs and got spoiled by Zildjian Rock series. I hope I didn't throw too much at you . This looks like a fun gig setting up for these big shows.
Same, man! I’d kill to see a guitar tech doing these kinds of videos! @matthorndrums talk to some of your guitar tech buddies and try to convince them to make these kinds of videos as well! Love this channel
I like the technique. I think if you used a weight instead of your hand to apply pressure, you would get more consistent pressure as tighten your lugs. Awesome even still!
Bro, hope you do this content always, you help a lot with this type of videos and some tricks every drummer and tech should know. Thank you, you are huge!
I feel so lucky to live this experience ! You guys are the men of shadows and nothing could be possible without you ! Can’t wait to see your next video ! Love them all
I love your drum tech videos....ive been a drummer for 18 years. Played at my church for 12 years before "retiring" myself to only play at home. Im decent, but not great...ill never be on stage or get to be a drum tech, but i can feel like it when i watch these! There is a satisfying feeling watching these. Thanks for taking the time to video, edit, and post !
dude this is honestly inspiring knowing that i have another option to be a drum tech if my band doesnt work out haha, your videos are absolutely phenominal though! your the first and only youtuber to make 50+ minute vids and have my full attention with the whole thing, keep it up matt.
I’ve been binge watching these all day! Thanks for the content man. It’s so satisfying to watch with everything in its designated place and always having the right tool for the job. I’ve always been curious about this stuff.
Matt, this never gets old. I've watched every one of your videos. I feel like I could set this kit up as well. NOT! HAHA. Thx again. BTW, would love to see some video of your travels from your house to the airport to the tour bus, etc. Safe travels!
I live about 30 mins from the Tacoma Dome, I’ve been to countless shows there and worked plenty as well. But it’s so awesome to finally see the backend side of things!! thank you so much for this video!
This channel reminds me so much of Solo Travel Japan’s channel which I’ve been watching for years yet it’s also like watching videos about music which I’ve been watching my whole life! so you’re combining two things I love, thanks man, this is amazing!!
I’m a drummer and every time I watch your tech videos, I always learn something new I can use to make my shows go a lot smoother. Even just the lazy Susan for tuning. I love it!
I'm just a music listener, with an eclectic taste in music genres. I really enjoy watching the hustle and bustle of bands playing at different venues and the hectic life of the support. Thanks for posting, take care 👍
Every new video is just great and a joy to watch. The drumkit looks awesome and your skills are perfect. You tease me every time to pick up the drumsticks... maybe it's time... 😊 An overall rig rundown of the FIR backline gear would be great.😮
Great contents as always, dude! Only recently i've found out your channel. And, as i thought, you're a fellow drummer. I love these vids and i'm always in awe with your work and how everything it's on place and shine haha Anyway, keep up the amazing work. Can't wait for the next gem you'll put on here for us!
I love the contrast of all this heavy machinery and stuff, all you hear is the bird chirping, its just hilarious. Also its really cool how Brooks kit splits in half to help stuff get pushed to the stage, really really smart
This channel is an absolute gem! I absolutely love it! I'm thrilled about the upcoming tour and eagerly anticipate what you'll be sharing on the channel in the future. I have a suggestion: instead of the beautiful bird chants, could you consider incorporating some drum fills recorded by you? You're an amazing drummer!, I'm not sure if it's a good idea, but I would certainly enjoy that. Cheers!
@@matthorndrumsI really enjoyed watching your drum roadie for luke holland How long have you been a roadie for luke holland What does it feel to be a professional drum tech Have you worked with other rock bands as a drum tech
@ryanhutchinson9657 no disrespect by no means but roadie and drum tech two different things. Roadie travels with the band and helps carry stuff. A drum tech has the important job of making sure the drums are maintained and sound the best they can also make sure everything goes fine during the show
Just ran across this video and your channel. Great stuff. Live in the area Luke is from and my son and I follow him. Love seeing the other side of many of his videos. 🤘
I use the palm of my hand and put a fairly good amount of weight on the head, and then I get the wrinkles out. I really like this method. Love the videos, man!
Thank you Matt for these videos. So oddly satisfying, love them, but I wanted you to know that because of you we discovered Falling in Reverse and they are fantastic. The band has gotten a couple new fans, and it's all on you. Cheers dude....stay safe.
For that finger tip tuning, I do that sometimes as a "quick and dirty" way to get going. I ended up using this little 5lbs or so paperweight I had on my desk so I always had even pressure in the middle made it that much easier to get through it and if you're comfy with it, can do back to two hand tuning with the keys
I learned some time ago if you're ever in a pinch. If you're unable to fine-tune by hitting around the head. Take your drum key and tap on the lugs. If one is out of tune with other lugs, you'll definitely hear it. 👍
Tried this tuning method july 2023 and it worked great. When rimples are gone tone/tuning is already close to final when you like a deep sound. Perhaps the traditional cross method /patterns for the tuning key during this process gives a more equal distribution of tension. The Remo head problem: mostly each head is in a different box. The problem may be connected to storing them all in 1 plastic bag during transport. If Remo ships them this way to you, you may contact them. Drumshops have big racks with each head in a box: that is the normal shipping method for quality drum heads. If they want to save costs because your heads are 0 $ because of the endorsement; they may consider 1 multi-box for each size of drumhead.
Love the video and channel! FWIW, could we start seeing some videos with sone other things besides getting the kit set up? We’ve seen you crush that a few times and it’d be cool to get something fresh like a video of your toolbox, tour stories, interviews with other crew members, clips of you working during the show or taking us through the day off/travel portion. Just something fresh besides set up/tear down.. Great channel and great job!!! Thank you!!!!
You probably know this tuning technique but thought I would recommend it! Push down on the rim with one hand over each rod and finger tight and then maybe a ¼ to ½ turn. Fastest way I’ve found to tune! Love the videos by the way!
Hey Matt. Thanks for the videos. Always a treat! Would you mind referencing the video where you learnt the new tuning technique? Thanks... Stay Well! 🎉
I was taught to change the head/skin and tighten like a tire ( star shape to tighten back n forth) but I see your way works as well, I will have to stay with my way since I am use to it and some time (and they do 90% of the time no matter how far ahead you thinks you are) things go wrong after replace the heads.
7k likes??? Make sure to follow me on IG to stay up to date with my touring schedule and video updates! @matthorndrums
