Hi and thanks. I bought a new SJ Electronic a few years ago for home use. I do sometimes wish it was a bit quicker and less noisy, but I forgive it because it is such a brilliantly made and consistent machine. Actually my only real issue is with its sensitivity to ambient temperature. A commercial business won't be troubled by tossing 40g every time they recalibrate through the day, but at home that means I get through a lot of beans. But not so many that I need to worry about burr replacement for a while: Mazzer recommends replacing the burrs on the SJ after 880lb throughput... That's 20,000 double shots for me.

I single dose with the Super Jolly. Why do you say you have to have beans in the grinder during adjustment?

How often should i change burrs? I used SJ in my shop for a year, ot started doing lots of clumps and lots or static grounds sticking to the surface

Mazzer non-coated are rated at 400kg of beans, and I think the titanium coated ones are 2.5x that, or 1000kg.

It's nice and classic grinder but the price Mazzer requests these days (and its distributors) is seriously over-the-top. In my country, the Czech Republic, you have to pay 1565 USD for Super Jolly while Fiorenzato F64 EVO costs you just about 900 bucks and is Mazzer's equal if not even better. And same goes for higher-end Eurekas, Macaps or Anfims.

That pricing is out of control. Here in Australia, the Super Jolly is about 25% less than the F64 EVO. Mazzer is disappearing from cafes though as many are choosing modern low noise grinders. Mazzer still have an advantage in that you can get them repaired same day for most problems because the mobile techs carry parts. But newer electronic controlled grinders are getting far more reliable, and customers like quieter cafes.

As a home owner I have a very old MSJ and my only grump is how how much coffee lingers in the cute. Although you suggest a 2 shot purge between adjustments, I suggest doing the same when you start first thing in the morning. Not doing so will ensure a first dose of stale coffee. Love the channel and keep up the good work.

A little 1 inch brush could probably help you with that.

I use a paper clip bent open, works like a charm as it doesn't push grinds back down the chute (assuming you have taken the finger guard off). I single dose and use a 58mm rubber camera lens hood as a mini hopper that, when you put a lid on it and whack down, it blows all /most grinds out of the grinder chamber and chute 😉. Discovered someone on RUclips doing it, it is a great idea! It does make you look like a right dweeb though 🙂
