Yeah, she is so awesome and dynamic-caring, but try to belong in a society that is asleep in copings of degeneracy, obviously some are mediocre vessels as they have failed as humane humans.
Ballister: “Are you older or younger than ten?” Nimona: “I’m a let you think I’m a teenager, but I’m really over a thousand years old and you’re all children compared to me.”
Nope I disagree. It a textbook Disney ending. The typical "all is lost moment " where the two protagonists separate for a while. Then one of them have a come-to-jesus moment where they realized they messed up, then to reunite at the end then finally the fake out death for one of them and where the villain is killed. It's a good movie but I've seen it core a thousand times before.
@HeavyTraffix the only animated films I've seen pullcit off well though was this and nimona. Most your like yeah they obviously won't die But the emotional moment had just passed so it wasn't too out there for her to have died
The queen was ahead of the time, anybody can be a hero regardless of their station in life it was a revolution beginning for commoners who earn the right to be called a hero. But like a many revolutionary ideas, it scared the shit out of the establishment. So Balister was framed and tries to clear his name and the real monster in this story was the Director she Watch the living and body matters, small minded, ignorance, and letting fear and prejudice make her judgment, and that of the kingdom. If anything, she should be locked away in the deepest, darkest cell, chained up like an animal!
As far as I am concerned, the ending left some loose ends untied. Since the Director claimed that the shapeshifter framed her, it's never made clear by the end if the truth about the queen's death was ever revealed. Even if he is hailed as a hero by the end, I feel that Ballister was never truly exonerated for the crime. There should have been an extra scene where Ballister and Ambrosia discover a scroll written by Galeth where she confesses her regrets for driving her friend away and not standing up for her, even if she did it to protect her. The Director destroys the scroll and rants about how everything she has done has been for the good of the kingdom, even seeing the queen's death as a necessary sacrifice to maintain the status quo, but Ambrosia later plays the footage of the truth being revealed to the whole kingdom of Galeth's legacy being a lie and of the Director's admission of guilt, proving that she was the true queen-killer and that she framed an innocent man just to prove a point. Nimona, having learned the truth of her friend's intentions, forgives her. I also think that during that talk-down with Nimona in her monster form that Ballister should have also made a speech telling her that nobility is born of action, not blood, and that it's what is in the heart that matters. He sees her for who she is with his heart, having come to understand her as he too has been looked down upon for his origins. He says that if being a knight means letting her die, then that's not something he wants to be, casting down his sword.
I agree. Bal should’ve made a speech about both him and Nimona coming from the similar roots, as they both have been looked down upon because of their backgrounds. Essentially, for a most part of their lives, they’ve been alone. Ballister should’ve said in addition to his official dialogue, that he truely understands Nimona, and that she is one of the most unique people that he has ever met, and under no circumstance that he regrets the things they have done together.
I loved this movie, but it also made me cry like a waterfall. This poor kid. All she wanted was to have a friend, and because she was different, everyone saw her as a monster.
It's a really well written story with themes we've seen before many times. Fear of change, fear of that which is different, desire by the powerful to remain in power at any cost, and the notion that a villain may be a hero, and a hero may be a villain. It's generally one of the best original stories I've seen adapted to the animation format. It would be better with no gay content, but at least there wasn't much of that.

The story is literally a metaphore for being comfortable with your identity, like Nimona's different shapeshifting forms, and how they're not hurting anyone but it's the transphobes who are harming everyone, not just the LGBT, as seen by the enemy at the end who was willing to kill innocent people just to take down the 'monster'
