Something's wrong with the Flagrant Podcast

  • In this podcast review I'm pointing out the main issue with the Flagrant podcast which is the lack of push back against the lead contributor Andrew Schulz. I've got a few clips from episodes with Whitney Cummings, Shane Gillis and Logan Paul to help back up my point. Ofcourse this is all just my opinion :)

    Love the podcast, but definitely feel the same way. They are too scared to say/do anything that goes against Andrew. They are riding his coattail and don't want to mess it up. Akash is the most obvious of this.. any time Andrew laughs, Akash has to take it a step up and jump up and start slapping legs .. how obvious can you get? If you haven't noticed.. Andrew will almost always once per episode throw in him texting Rogan or someone else who's famous. He definitely wasn't like this in the earlier podcasts.. but I guess the more famous you get, you'll start acting like them too.

    The Whitney one was hard to watch, but I think the Shane one, Shane is in on the joke. I say this, because in Shane’s last Netflix special this September, he has about 10 mins or so of him self saying he looks like he has downs. And getting out of situations by pretending he has downs. His own joke were on the same level as Andrew’s jokes.

    • @TheGoodRant
      @TheGoodRant  11 месяцев назад +17

      I think that might be different to watching people with downs dancing and making fun of them for it. He genuinely seemed annoyed. Even Mark, quietly said sorry after so I think they also thought he was serious. But I could be wrong.

      You missed the point. Shane said it’s okay for him to make fun of HIMSELF in that way, a man who looks goofy in nature and doesn’t actually have Down syndrome. But it’s not cool when you start pulling up videos of people who ACTUALLY have down syndrome to be mean. That’s where the line was drawn for him.

    Anyone who watched Flagrant before they changed the set and rebranded the podcast to Flagrant 2 knows the dynamic amongst all of them. Some of the episodes are hit or miss but it is still a good podcast if you can handle the sarcasm and humour and not try to paint it as something else to fall in line with the cancel culture view points.

    To me, it's an ego problem. The very first time I saw the new studio I felt weird, all previous studios had this humble 'hanging out with friends' vibe. Nobody took themselves too seriously and that was the best part, in fact the reason why I watched the show. Now Andrew takes himself too seriously, his "psychoanalysis" is the truth and you're being defensive if you're denying it. Schulz got propped up by some other podcasters and comedians, and thinks he is better than he really is because he became famous too early. It's not quite Brandon Schaub levels of bad, but his talent-to-fame ratio isn't good and this is the result.

    | known of Andrew since mtv guy code. saw him advance thru the alley oop from Charlamagne. He is funny. as always, a few things are happening at the same time but imho the main bits are these...
    as commonly happens, Andrew is trapped between his persona and who he actually is at the moment. that's the subtext of whats happening in most of his worst moments and especially in the Whitney ep. via both of them, they are(were?) friends. he knows that she knows. she saw the oddish semi-inappropriate vibe he was on & tolerated it for a bit, tried to pivot, but ultimately then countered with quips that we caught & some that were just for him and some combination of his admitted crippling insecurities flared and he locked in on trying to make her cry. as one does.
    As for the pod itself, if we assume wat the pod has turned into is peak trolling and it’s an iykyk nod and wink to the fans whove seen all iterations of the pod and "get it", then the reality is that this comes at the expense of the funny. the pod is objectively no where near as funny as it was or as it could be. If the objective is money and success, then there's no issue, but once the funny is diminished, the clock has started.

    I might be wrong, but I think they made their name by being outrageous and now, when a guest on the podcast is chill, they can't just sit there and go with the flow. Especially Schultz. And I also feel they're intimidated when a guest might be funnier than they are, because there was alot of aggressive energy and off-the-charts cringiness when Louie was a guest too. Schulz has absolutely shotgunned himself in the back of the face so fast. He’s become more detestable than Brendan Shaub

    Andrew is starting to realize he's getting overcome by the new names in comedy and will now do anything he can to feel like he's on top.

    At first I thought this was a sad attempt from another insecure Hater but stayed open minded, watched it and you have great points. Bottom-line imo, Andrew is a great guy and great comedian but like so many including myself when I was younger, Ego can get the best of us. Him going after Whitney and Shane like that is pretty bad though, it was in bad taste.The Whitney one though, Wow I might have walked off if I was in her shoes. Andrew needs to see this Vid and he's an open minded dude, it might help him grow and mature some. Don't get me wrong he's typically good at ribbing people, etc but he does go too far sometimes, there's other examples as well; there's a thin line where it's just mean at some point and why, what point does he really want to make?.?. Send this Vid to him as a concerned fan. hahaha.

      The fact that he built his career, in his eyes, treading the thin line means sometimes he will cross it. Thank goodness for Alex.
