I have egg-citing news to share! YRK as you,may recall, was the first albatross to return back to the colony in September! Well she has been busy! She has a new mate this season & they are incubating a fertile egg! YRK lost her first mate OGK back in 2022. YRK is the Mum of Atawhai (2020) and Lilibet (2022). She and OGK are the parents of RLK the male for this season's Royal Cam couple! YRK's new mate is A87, a ten year old albie who is the chick of the first Royalcam couple YWK and KGY! YWK is OGK's older brother - so A87 is OGK's nephew! ♥♥ Last summer, YRK and A87 were observed engaging in courtship behavior and it was clearly a success for them! It's incredible how these animals that spend such a solitary life are able to weave relationships with their peers: surely, RLK knows this albatross and is "his friend". How exciting to see such beauty and wonder! On another note, the US Fish and Wildlife Service recently reported that Wisdom, a Laysan albatross, is the oldest alby to lay an egg.

For those interested in Albies in general, visit YT channel U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and learn about WISDOM , a 74 yo albatross who recently laid an egg after 4yrs. She, too had lost her long time, mate and had to start a new court ship. I was amazed simply by her age in general let alone still feeling strong enough to raise young. Thank you, Ladyhawk. For providing us with the family lineage.
Been watching since atawhai. They are a village it seems. Their servants come by to see to various needs. Like good servants they're respectful so the Albies are not abusive towards them.
