Just came back from guitar center, where I pretty much just spent ~2hr falling for this piano. So many awesome sounds and most are very good quality! Now I'm trying to find one.
Just picked this unit after considering a few others (the 660 was on that list). I gotta say, this is one of the most *expressive* musical instruments I have ever layed my hands on. The real stand out for me are the guitar tones, the "super articulation" voicing is unfrigginbelievable (try the "pedal steel" patch, simply jaw dropping). I use it paired it up with my Roland Juni Di (which has better custom patch editing functions). Great feeling keys, sweet sounds, fun and complete accompaniment rhythms. A huge upgrade from my Casio WK-6600. Game changing at this price point.
I wish there would be a comprehensive video or videos that Yamaha would do, showing how to fully utilize the expressions and articulations. Really, if they would show how the people who create those little "demos" which show what each instrument can do, it would be incredible and probably a first.
I got the DGX 660; for my graduation 5 years ago, and I still love it so much! My 660 is amazing!! The only problem is, that my little pedal I have, it makes too much noise; makes my DGX sound loud!! I love my DXG baby; still, and it is my most prized possession! I'll just take it; as it is!! The DGX 670 is unbelievable!! Incredible though!! They're both amazing!! Nice video dude!! I'm officially subscribed!!
He makes it seems easy, but this instrument is very complex and can cause you to pull your hair out. I'm often very confused by it. Yamaha needs to publish a song book for it that shows how to go through the settings for some easy to play songs.
Agree with you. I love the various sounds on this keyboard. I'm not into tech and just learning to play( I think my age is against me. 80 years.) Jeremy See gives a basic info on one of his UTube videos. It would be helpful if someone out there could video use of styles, recording , using the education, flash dives and midi( have no clue what that is). Still I'm having fun. It's a great instrument though, Just wish I could get my head around it.
DGX has really come a long way. I used to have a 300, but I gave it to my sister's boyfriend years ago. Tried the 670 today; better sound generator, better key feel, doesn't have the same metallic look as MacBooks... The 300 basically felt like a worse version of the modern PSRs. Glad to say I'd get back into DGX, but I'm on a budget. 😂
You might think the 300 is werse, but in some ways it's actually not so much. The biggest way actually comes down to the sounds. It does use the same xg light tones that modern psrs do, but it's one of very few Yamaha keyboards, along with the DGX500 and PSR-290 that released around the same time as the 300, which actually had higher quality versions of the sounds than pretty much every home keyboard at those parts of the range. A really notable example is with the pizicato strings. On 99 percent of xglight sound systems, they pizicato is so low quality that there is very audible digital audio artifacting, which comes from the sounds being at a super low sampling frequency. Also the song bank is a more fully featured version of their Yamaha Education sweet selection, where some songs even have extra sections or extra instruments included. That's part of the reason I like to play any of those 3 keyboards if I can, even though the sounds are the xglight ones. Not to put the dgx-670 down though, since I am thinking about grabbing one for myself.
Clavinova but about 100x better. I had one of the first Clavinova's in the late 90s and it was great for its time but after playing a few newer digitals, it feels so plastic now.
@@GreenBoy9000 I'm not sure - I never look at model names lol. But I'll see if they have any at work - I work at an instrument store. But I have a Yamaha P-115 and that is way less plastic feeling than my Clavinova was, for like a 5th of the pricetag.
@@GreenBoy9000 I looked at what that model was and I had something very similar but I'm pretty sure it was the very first generation but the same body. I wish we could post pictures on here lol. I think the next generation definitely had a better, less plasticky feel to it.

I own the DGX-650, and if there is one weak area on it, it's the synth section. I love to play '80s music, and I wish I had a bit more versatility for emulating analog synths and the ability to tweak the existing sounds a little bit. I don't necessarily need a full synthesizer, just a bit of adjustment to make it sound correct. I would also like to see a looper so you can play a riff and repeat it while you play something else. Hallo Gabriel, very amazing and professional video about this new Dgx670..... What about another video dedicated to Church organ voices of this instrument??
Does anyone know if I can use a previous DGX model’s stands with it? The stand used to be included several years ago, but Yamaha has taken a page out of Apple’s playbook and now one must purchase it separately. 😮
in guide mode ; if the wrong key is pressed ; is there a setting to suppress the sound? like in other Yamaha models? like the EZ300 ; I see that when you pressed the wrong note ; it still made a sound.
I purchased one and the piano sound did not sound like this video ... I am sure Yamaha has something attached to make this sound this good... I sent it back extremely disappointed. Even had tech try to help out but no luck. Mine was not even close as far as the piano sound. other sounds were good but the piano had a muddy middle C, octave above and below, just no clarity ... Low end sounded great and high end also sounded great but the middle was trash. Was a lot of cool things and settings but I need the piano to sound right. I have a 660 and I think the pianos in it are more consistent.
Do you know the reason the chorus and reverb is showing as not available in the display and following page 6 of the manual nothing changes for the Yamaha dgx 670 please?
It might seem odd, but Yamaha can be like that a lot of times when releasing new products. For example, When I was in high school cuoir 2 years ago, we had a cvp-701, and that has many of the same exact sounds, mega voices and all, as the new dgx. It's taken them until 2022 to add any kind of really expanded voices from their higher ranges to the PSR-E line, and that's just for the 2 higher end models of that part of the line up. Look at pretty much every psr keyboard in the home keyboard range released since the late 2000s and it will have the same xglight sounds and pannel voices as one from even a few years ago. That's why many people have switched from Yamaha's low end arranger style keyboards to other ones.
Is it possible to update? Currently the program is 1.03 and the Yamaha application (smart pianist -yamaha controller -chord tracker )does not see Bluetooth. However, the mobile phone sees the instrument's Bluetooth in its settings, but when I enter the application, it does not see it. Yamaha DGX 670
The SX has chord looper, more sounds (electric piano, better guitars, brass, strings, has an upright piano samples and the amazing drums from Genos) but SX has crappy piano sample. It's also has more styles that resembles new songs or styles that's new on Genos. Allows for importing your own sounds for the keyboard. Better speakers. The DGX670, The sounds are almost the same from the SX600 but with the beautiful CFX samples from P-515. It has only a little number of styles only 263 (525 in SX900). And it has the unison and accent feature which can't be found on SX900. 88 weighted keys vs 61 keys. The dgx670 has a greater value. 88 keys, CFX samples with good accompaniments styles and sounds While the SX900 is a keyboard with very good other sounds with crappy old piano samples.
You should already tell.... 900 is synthesizer kind of like workstation keyboard while dgx are arrange keyboard Workstation are more for Creatw your way
As someone who sold my SX900 and got the DGX670, I can definitely tell you that the SX900 is certainly not worth the price. The piano samples on SX900 are way worse, and the lack of the usb audio interface functionality is quite limiting if I want to play software instruments through the keyboard.
Sorry if this is a silly question, but I cannot find any CLEAR answers on this. The DGX-670 website says there is a 16 track midi recorder built in. What exactly does that mean? Does that mean I can record 16 tracks of whatever I want? Including multiple vocals? or am I missing something? I'd love to mic a guitar and do multiple vocal tracks and add piano/drums/etc...
The 16 channel midi is for the instrument sounds. Midi isn't directly an audio format, it's only a set of instructions that can be interprited by a synth, keyboard, computer, etc and it's up to the device receaving the midi information to play sounds and do other things with it.
I get somewhat frustrated with the demos as they never show how the set up the sounds for the songs they are playing. I have played a Technics PR200 for 30 years. Unfortunately it doesn't go any more. It sounded amazing and was so much easier to set up. I find it frustrating trying to work out the setting and layers and splits and different sounds and voices and volumes for left and right. Can someone please help me.
I just bought the DGX-670 - I had the 660 and 650 models. I'm going crazy trying to access the XG & GM voices...can't find them yet I see a list (Found it online) of all the additional voices within those areas for the 670. On my previous models (660/650) I could scroll through and find the all the voices together...what am I missing and how do I access the GM/XG voices - they should be loaded up onto my keyboard and not something I have to purchase additionally correct?
I'm guessing the gm and xg voices are there, just only accessible over midi. They do cut those out of the groupings on higher end ones, though I would think they would be available so you can play midi files using the keyboard sounds.
Usually digital piano keys doesn't feel like wood. It feels like plastic. Can anyone tell me is it same or keys are really as good as acoustic piano ? I would like to buy it online but I'm nervous.
I've played one a bit and it feels nicely weighted and not plasticky. I believe it has wood under the plastic coating and the keys sort of have a grainy look to them. I might be wrong on that though. Edit: Actually, I was wrong: the keys are plastic but the weighted tech is pretty good. It doesn't feel plasticky, as far as the touch goes.
@@keymaster430 this basic feature should always be there in 'keyboards' for the benefit of people who want to play different instruments with different hands. Many digital pianos don't have that but all arranger keyboards that I know, have that.
@@mrityunjaytripathi5588 Indeed. The 660 has the feature to play a different instrument with each hand as well as a feature to where you can simply play both instruments at the same time throughout the whole keyboard
@@keymaster430 yes! That feature is called 'layering'. Most instruments, including 660 and 670 allow layering of 2 voices but some costlier ones even allow layering of 3 voices. Division of keybed in 2 parts is called 'splitting'. You can use splitting and layering features together. In this case, only right hand is allowed to have 2 simultaneous voices and the left one can have only 1 voice. If I rightly remember, one Kurzweil model allows more than 2 spilts.
Скажите, клавиши лёгкие или достаточно плотные? Я хотел купить nux 310 , но увидел этот инструмент и теперь хочу купить его, но я не умею хорошо играть и нужен ли мне такой дорогой инструмент!?
Could someone please tell me if I can turn up the volume of the voices? Styles sound louder than the voices and I would like to know if there is a setting to turn up the voices volume overall. I know how to do it for a specific voice (going to its settings, choosing volume and then saving that specific voice) but I wish to do it for all voices at once, having it as a default.
I have this same problem! You can boost the volume of the voice your using, and I suppose lower that of the style, but it's still not enough in the case of guitars.
@@BoneyWhy I asked the company and I found the solution I was searching for. You can permanently change volume of styles, main, left, layer voices separately and tuning of each, when you press the "mix/eq" button.
The wooden stand is not included in the box so it's optional. You can definitely use an x-frame stand. Personally I bought the wooden stand because it's very secure and looks nicer.
The X stands could work but you wouldn't want to move it too often (the teeth that hold it up can get stripped if you're not careful). If you're asking about the keyboard price itself, it's at least $900 anywhere I've looked (in the USA - in Canada it's more like $1200).
On my 660, you're able to set it to "Dual Voices" and play two at one time. So most likely the 670 will have that feature. Maybe even more than just two.
Great video. Slightly annoying presenter. I mean it would be nicer if he would talk to the audience as if they were mature adults rather than as if he is trying to impress the parents of a 9 year old.
It's high time Yamaha starts putting out keyboards to fit you like clothes or gloves , the right keyboard size, there are children who need smaller keyboards, women, men with smaller hands etc back in the day keyboards were no not this wide with keys closer together, there is one co in PA who is doing this where u can just switch out a keyboard, for a keyboard that fits your hand size, DS keyboards and it's time Yamaha let you order keyboard size with weighted hammer action they would be meeting a big need

You can't record vocals using MIDI. I've checked the manual and it seems you can only record one microphone track per song.
Is it worth to buy a used 650 today for a beginner or better to look on 660?
I'm guessing the gm and xg voices are there, just only accessible over midi. They do cut those out of the groupings on higher end ones, though I would think they would be available so you can play midi files using the keyboard sounds.
Can you change instruments on the fly while on the style play?
Are they’re outputs for amplification as in on stage?
Usually digital piano keys doesn't feel like wood. It feels like plastic. Can anyone tell me is it same or keys are really as good as acoustic piano ? I would like to buy it online but I'm nervous.
Keys are plastic but you can t find ivory key on keyboard Only on concert grand pianos. Just visit near store and play.

I purposely don’t buy the products because of this guy
Gabe, will this record your music to sheet music notes?
Thanks for the review. I have a question. Can I split the 88 on dgx670 in dual mode (teacher-student) to have same middle C on each part?
I think you can..
Most likely, because my 660 has that feature. So, I'm almost certain that they would keep that feature on the 670.
Does this work for midi, can u import other libraries if needed like "damage" ??
can the DGX-670 work without the PA-300C?
Who's the artist of the song he sang (my baby left me...)?
I just got one today. Just installed and tried. The sound of key striking itself is too loud. It sounds weird.
How do you like it 2 months later?
@@Blue-Mo0n I like it better, play it almost every day. Got used to the key sticking sound 😜
@@ruotui Thanks :) I got one myself. I've only had a cheap Casio 25 years old 😅 Hope I won't regret the purchase.
@@Blue-Mo0n Congrat! I'm sure that you won't regret. I would suggest to buy both the 3-pedal unit and the stand.
@@ruotui Thank you! I already have a stand. I don't know what the pedals are supposed to do though, I'm a beginner completely 😅
@@Blue-Mo0n I appreciate the trouble you went through to find this out and sharing it with me!
I want to play why I am I not getting any sound?
Can it be had for less than $400? Does it need that console that it's shown on or can you use one of those adjustable x-frame stands?
The wooden stand is not included in the box so it's optional. You can definitely use an x-frame stand. Personally I bought the wooden stand because it's very secure and looks nicer.
The X stands could work but you wouldn't want to move it too often (the teeth that hold it up can get stripped if you're not careful). If you're asking about the keyboard price itself, it's at least $900 anywhere I've looked (in the USA - in Canada it's more like $1200).
Wish I'd waited. I brought the 660 then this came out lol. Ugh.😅😅😅
I'm not going past 76 note I prefer light weight keys I hate 88 weighted keyboards
The lower keys are heavy weighted and it gets lighter as you go up octaves. This is a special Keyboard.
This man couldn’t sound more like Charlie Sheen if he tried
Can you record different voices at the same time?
On my 660, you're able to set it to "Dual Voices" and play two at one time. So most likely the 670 will have that feature. Maybe even more than just two.

It's sad because people don't play keyboard anymore. Computers took over!
nah not really
until now almost all composers have at least one keyboard
I agree! I am a woman with small hands. I can just barely reach an octave. I gave up playing, it was such a struggle.
The keyboard bed on the Yamaha DGX 670 is a piece of crap,, my two-year-old DGX, I can hardly play it without headphones the clatter of these worn out keys are louder than the sound,, keyboard bed is a piece of shit good for about a year and a half
I wish I could get this sooner! It’s back ordered i’m pretty sure it won’t come until after Christmas 😭
