I just got my second 2010 TDi Touareg. One pre-dieselgate, where VW paid me more than double what I had paid for my first one. Now years later, got another one, but got the rarest of the rare, a 2010 TDi with "air suspension". I LOVE these cars. Keep up the great work.

in the car world / automotive industry there are always 2 camps , people who look after their vehicles and do the regular correct maintinence and those whos only interactions with the vehicle is putting fuel in it and driving it , greetings from western australia

You forget the VW camp. Wich breaks for no good reason even if serviced perfectly. My 2012 Skoda Roomster 1.2TSI Engine (same like in Golf Polo) is completely broken (all valves hit the pistons) after 102tkm and service every year. And i can not find a reasonable priced engine because all are broken.

I've had my Touareg 3ltr V6 tdi for 3 months now . I'm disabled I have spine issues from a Rallying Accident 35 years ago .
I love my Touareg it's so comfortable . Previous cars if I went any distance I had to get out for a walk every 40/50 miles . The Touareg is a complete pleasure to drive . Longest trip so far 300 miles each way . We own a caravan / camping trailer too . I'm getting 41mpg . I love my car I'm lucky I guess . Yep brought it on a rainy Sunday afternoon 100 + miles from home . But saw it brought it . Didn't even test drive it . My stepson had that pleasure. . Only issue so far is a split windscreen washer pipe . Easy fix just cut it and put a join in . Ear valve was clogged . Had a carbon clean . And drove it 100 + miles . No check engine light now .
I've even got the optional heated steering wheel . Must admit it's one of the best cars I've owned in nearly 40 years of motoring . Yes it's a bit scary on a cold morning with the mpg 4.2 mpg on cold engine . But hey whatever the weather the engine soon warms up .
If anybody isn't sure about purchasing one . Just do it . I love my VW Touareg .

I’ve had my 2012 Touareg since 2014, it has 139k miles on it. All I’ve had to do to it was change the batter, new AC fan and fix a headlight. It’s been very reliable.

I have a cayenne diesel with the same motor. Every 10,000 miles you're supposed to suck the diesel out of the fuel filter canister to remove the water and replace the filter every 20,000 miles. The filters are ~$25 from ECS Tuning/RM European/FCP Euro, so I just replace them every 10,000 miles since I need to suck the fuel out anyways. You can refill the canister by priming the pump by key cycling a few times. I have VAG-COM but have never needed it for this job

You need to prime and bleed the fuel system to the two pump outlets, any air in the system will cause the fuel pump to run dry for a few seconds which will reduce the life of the high pressure fuel pump, on series 2 or later engines the fuel pump is cam chain driven and very tricky to replace, series 1 engines have the fuel pump at the front driven by the serpentine belt and changing it is relatively straightforward.

I did a fuel filter everytime I did my oil on my TDi Jetta. It was a super easy job and the filter was cheap cheap.
Sadly I think your CEL will come back. I had intermittent CEL's for the 4 years I owned my TDi. Only 2 were actually real faults that I could fix, the others just came and went. Temperature and humidity caused the light to come on and go off, spring and fall were the worst. Sometimes the light would be on for an hour, sometimes and day, sometimes and few days.

. Yeah, aftermarket OF cartridges, i.e Fram. Purolator, Wix etc. are dirt cheap vs OEMs Bosch, Hengst, Mahle, Mann and OE VAG. Why used cheap aftermarket OFC with inferior design and quality that don't meet and/or exceed OE stringent standards?

I've dealer serviced my 15 TDI for 100,000 and kept records. When they do my fuel filter they charge me $69.75 for the filter and $19.99 labor (USD). That said these cost money to run and dealer service. My 5 year and 102,000 mile total is just shy of $7,000. That total includes and extra set of winter wheels and tires, a replacement set of winter tires, replacement set of summer tires, brakes and rotors all around once, etc. Just the 10 dealer services was about $2400. I have had 2 non warranty repairs, gelled fuel cost me $192 and a rear parking sensor $455. I have had 4 check engine lights for various sensors that were all fixed under the tdi settlement warranty.

It is best to remove fuel from filter housing and wipe it down. Water and debris settle at the bottom. Then fill with diesel purge/kleen and cycle ignition a few times, without starting (to remove air).
    Good to go...

Get yourself an OBDeleven scan tool. It’s good for resetting lights and such. You’ll also enjoy playing with the coding that you can do on the Touareg. Hit up ECS tuning for the OBDeleven and a fuel filter that’s much less than a $100.

i have a 2013 Touareg TDI and i have an issue with the Kessey door handles. They do not work any more. I have taken it in to a dealer and they found that the passenger back door handle needs to be replaced. $700 later, the system works again. 3 weeks later, it stopped working again. took it back in, and now it is the driver side front door handle. Any idea on links to replace or fix this myself?

    • @erikthie2253
      @erikthie2253 5 лет назад

@FDMtech Thanks for the comment. I don't think you have to remove the door panel. There is a grommet in the door jam but the procedure isn't on youtube for a touareg with kessy door locks. And, where can you buy the product to fix this? And comments would be appreciated. $700 per door handle is a little high, and i am assuming that all the door handles will need to be replaced. Lastly, is there a way to turn off the door handle in question so that the others work?

That it the most important part that was missed. Anything the old filter trapped is now able to pass through. Always suck out the fuel before filter removal. Filter changes need to be done at least every 30,000kms. Best practice is same time as oil

Did you have the emissions fix? If so you have a 10 year 120,000 mile warranty for anything considered emission related, which is almost everything related to the engine, exhaust and fuel system. I have 100,000 miles on my 2015 and have had 4 repairs (always a sensor) with this warranty. I have only spent about $650 on non maintenance in that 100,000 miles.
