What a beautiful transformation,mother natures friends, bees etc will be so happy with this addition to your homestead. Ive added loads to one area in my allotment,imat home lots of live and let live going on. Well done,you have so many wildlife extra happy.
You're so right 🤗 live and let live 🥰 I have enough of areas where I'm in full control of the nature (except when pests or diseases strike 😉) We wanted to start the meadow a while ago, but didn't find opportunity.Hopefully now we're on the right track 💚🌿

🤣🤣 Thank you, JB, your words humble me 🤗 💚 As you see, the trick, really, to get them to germinate is to have an energetic dog with an orange rugby ball to supervise your every move and give his blessing at every turn 🤣🤣

It was interesting to read up and watch how yellow rattle feeds of the grass roots.
Hi Ady, Yes,it slows down the growth of grasses, and that gives other plants a chance, too.the grass is so vigorous here, so to be able to give any flowers a chance, need yellow rattle to help me too 😉

I’ve planted dozens of packets of yellow rattle. I just can’t get it to germinate!
Hi, I feel your pain 💚 Ideally your seeds are fresh, just from the last season, and the seeds also need to go through cold stratification.
What I would have done even with my own harvested seed. I would bag it up in paper bag and keep it in the refrigerator and then you can sow it in February-March, or otherwise get the seeds sown in November-December so they'll be exposed to freezing temperatures of winter. Hopefully, this works for you 😊💚🌿

Yes, you're correct. 💚 The traditional hay meadows would have been cut only once a year, at the end of summer, and animals left to graze on it after that until winter.
We have no animals, and the grass growth is really strong. Perhaps our clay ground is even too fertile and strong to be able to grow a meadow successfully. Meadows love poor soil, where grass wouldn't thrive well.
We're trying again this year, but the grass growth over winter was so strong that you wouldn't have even guessed the Yellow rattle had and affect or weakened any of the grass roots.
We'll see..... we would really love to have s wildflowers growing there and reduce the constant grass cutting....
