      Maybe in the spring, when the flowers start to grow, I'll do an update.

    Can’t wait to see the progress! I’ve used to cheap boxed seeds in a pot last year and I have to be honest I was shocked they actually grew but you do get a few grass seeds in there unfortunately, from what I got they are UK native wildflowers

      Okay, that's good to hear. I haven't had much luck with seeds in the past, every time I've planted them, there's been a massive heatwave that killed them all off. So hopefully, these will do alright!

  • @mrsgsadventuresinearlyyear1999

    You make it look so easy Greg , thank you ! Wondering if I should still prepare grass in the same way if I already have natural lawn wildflowers conning out ? We didn’t mow all summer so have white daisies but would like to add more of a variety..thanks , Jackie

      In this patch I have a large amount of yellow rattle and some other wild flowers that I've either seeded in previous years, or have just shown up themselves. Scarifying in this way didn't seem to affect their growth in any way, they all still grew this year. In fact I had a bumper crop of yellow rattle this year!

    It'll be interesting to see how that patch fares. Hopefully Yellow Rattle was in amongst the seeds you sowed because that is a species which I'm given to understand does a good job of helping to suppress competing grass. 🙂👍👍

      That area of the garden has been seeded with yellow rattle for several years now, so hopefully they won't have been disturbed by my raking and will grow again this year.

    How did it go with the wildflower meadow? I’m trying to convert my front lawn into a wildflower and pollinator meadow this year up in Truckee, California. I got the locally collected wildflower seeds, and getting ready to sow them. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

      Unfortunately, not many of those seeds I planted grew into anything. I do however, have a really thriving population of yellow rattle. So I am hoping that will help other wildflowers establish themselves in future seasons.

      Unfortunately it's not happening this year. I've done it so many times that I've nothing new to add. I do want to return to it in the future, when I can bring new information to the series.

    Its been 6 months. Any updates?

    • @GregsWildlife
      @GregsWildlife  Год назад +1

      I never did film any updates, unfortunately. I didn't have any luck with the seed, not much grew. However, this area had a fantastic covering of yellow rattle which I had seeded a few years ago and has since established itself quite well in the garden.
      The area was very popular with grasshoppers who live in the long grass.
      I'm hoping some of the seed will grow next spring, but I'll have to wait and see.
      I will be cutting it at some point soon, if I can get a break in between the rain long enough!

    Can anyone help me please, i planted a mixture of wild flower seeds in my garden, they had good soil and enough light i think, this was 3 years ago, each year they grow into green stalks, but never flower or become recognizable, not sure what to do.

    • @GregsWildlife
      @GregsWildlife  Год назад +1

      Hmm, that's a tricky problem. There could be many reasons why a plant will fail to flower. Sometimes it can take a few years for the plant to mature enough to flower. Or there cold be problems with light levels or soil nutrients.
      Have a look here: www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/environmental/plant-not-blooming.htm
      and see if anything might help.
