Not a plant channel, but I'm happy to see more plants around you. There are lots of things I'd like to know. How many pitches does a beginner need to make to get work, usually? What percentage of pitches result in work for more experienced copywriters? I'm trying to get work writing homepages, about pages, and blog posts. Is this a good approach for a new copywriter? Some better paying options look harder to get. I asked about mailing lists on your FB page and am interested to know more. You said that starting one may not be important at the beginning, but later perhaps. Could you talk more about this? How would you build a list? From your website? And what kind of content would you include? I have a non-copywriting mailing list and sometimes struggle to find things to write.
Ohh these are good! Some I can answer without a whole video. For pitches, it really depends. It can take anywhere from 20 to hundreds. There are a lot of factors, like if the pitch is decent, you have a portfolio of some kind, and what industry. Once you're seasoned, you should be landing about half of your pitches if not more. Yes, those are perfect options! I can dive into the mailing list option in a video though! It doesn't need to be complex, though. Some just have a list of people to let them know that they have availability to write/take on projects.
10 HOURS/DAY COPYWRITING? Please tell me you're doing other things too in that time (admin, emails, website stuff, etc)! Don't burn yourself out, I started outsourcing to prevent this (opened an agency). If I work (as in write/edit), it's no more than 3 hours/day and I aim to focus on only ONE client project per day (huuuge breather). Looking forward to more of your videos :)
Copy reviews! Maybe a comparison between classics (Halbert, Ogilvy, Caples..) and today's FB Google ads, emails, landing pages... Has everything gotten way too aggressive and pushy? Where is the soul of a good sales letter? How can we bring it back?! Happy Earth day!
Does the upcoming holiday schedule determine who you pitch copy work to? How far in advance should you start trying to get holiday marketing work? For example should we start pitching Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas marketing now or should it be closer to the holiday so it is fresher.
Personally, I'm about two months ahead! Each one depends on the industry, too. For example, fitness is hot in January (new years resolutions), beach towns in summer, etc etc. For the holiday season, most companies I work with usually start planning around September!
Hi Jackie, I’m new to copywriting. I’m currently doing an email marketing challenge by Alex Cattoni. I’ll be done with that soon (two weeks). When I finish I’ll have an email sequence of six emails as my first piece for my portfolio. Should I wait to have more practice before I start pitching to clients or can I start with just the emails and practice while I look for clients? Of course either way I’ll continue to practice everyday, I’m just not sure at what point I should start to look for Clients once I’ve finished the challenge.
Yes I think that’s definitely a good time to start reaching out to clients! It may take a bit to get your first payment but never put off the outreach just to get the ball rolling!

I would love to see you document how you (attempt to) cut down your workweek. That's my goal- a four-day workweek.

Oh absolutely I could never write copy for 10 hours a day my brain would explode, ha!

They're still out there! If anything they've gotten so much better than those old ads.
How about live writing sessions? or are they part of the workshop?
Ohhh that might be fun!

Oh and yes I’d like to know about your 4-day work week. ☺️

62 hours a week? You're going to dig yourself an early grave! So glad you're decreasing your hours:).
Same! It's not always this crazy (thankfully), just a lot of things overlapping at once!
