I heard he got arrested in England for animal abuse. I believe they said he let one of those snakes starve to death. The article didn't provide any evidence but if it's true then I really don't like him.

I remember Jake saying in another interview doing that concrete DDT on Steamboat was definitely the lowest point of his career because he held him such high regard. It's a miracle both lived to talk about it almost 40 years later.
I remember Bobby Heenan's commentary when Roberts delivered the DDT to Steamboat on the concrete. He said, "I smell pineapple juice." LOL

When I was in Jr High, two kids got into a fight that ended with the winner giving the losing kid (Who started the whole thing) a DDT on the floor of the hallway. Those floors were concrete under a real thin carpet. The kid went to the hospital for a while because of it and wore a neck brace for a few weeks after he came back.

Jake was old school and wrestler safety was important to him. In another interview he said it's still a regret of his. He really liked Ricky and still feels bad about it.
It tells you what sort of team player and gentleman Ricky Steamboat was that he was willing to take that sort of damage/injury just to repay a favour to the booker to help the booker hold his position. You won't get many guys willing to do that, I bet.

I remember when Jake "The Snake" Roberts was in World Class Wrestling, along with the Von Erichs, Chris Adams, Gino Hernandez, and Iceman King Parsons. He tongue kissed a blonde valet before one of the matches, probably Precious, i don't remember, and i thought he was a real Badass. When he came to the wwf i was really excited. Good Times

After all these years, now I know the true story about the DDT on the concrete. I couldn’t tell if it was real or not. But crap it was real on this occasion. The DDT was one of those moves that was scary to watch. Just like the pile driver. But Jake made a great heel that’s for sure!

+Spellbinder When Steamboat first brought it out (during a WWF Superstars taping where he scared the crap out of Jake with it) it was a Komodo Dragon. But after that, Steamboat would show up with a baby Alligator instead. I don't know why though. Maybe the Dragon was too dangerous and the Alligator was easier to handle.
+Ricardo Rivera Komodo dragons have a poisonous bite that paralyzes you. They are extremely dangerous when full grown.

You can protect someone doing a DDT on concrete. Jake is full of shit. He just wanted to hold Ricky's head full on to protect his own gimmick. All you do is lighten the pressure on someone's neck when you take the back bump, which allows the person's head who is taking the DDT to slip out and not have their head driven into the ground, which is how everyone trying to protect someone delivers a DDT. Jake is full of shit. Ask any pro wrestler.
