DIY guide for installing flex fuel E85 conversion kit on a BMW E9x M3 from APE (Alternative Performance Engineering). Easy and quick install without needing to remove the intake plenum.
This kit will allow me to run any blend of E85, full 91 octane, or even full E85 without needing to switch maps constantly. Not only will we gain 20-30 whp, but we also will reduce engine knock and temperatures prolonging the life of the engine.

what is flex fuel ?
Flex fuel is E85 or any blend of e85 and gasoline. It is used for creating more power.
One thing for those are struggling on that main fuel line disconnect there a white ring piece he doesn’t have that needs to removed first before u can squeeze the line and remove it
Correct. Thx for sharing
Thinking about getting this for my m3. What do you think is the best way to do e85. I am NA so would I have to upgrade injectors? Is the most efficient way to run this kit, bpm flex fuel tune with stock injectors?
@@TheClapGodSr. yes to the last question. It’s worth it
Any cons to running E85 as far the motor goes?
No cons. It’s healthier for the engine, burns cleaner, smells better, cheaper, etc
Hey sal, recently bought an x pipe in december from you. I got a tune from chaos calibration, i didnt include any option for e85 at the time. Would i be able to add this without needing to tune again or do you know if its better to tune again for better performance/reliability? It would be the last thing needed for NA gains
You don’t need a tune for this. Good luck 👍
How was out after a while? Did it damage anything? Was there power gain, difference in acceleration you can feel from pedal?
Small difference in acceleration feels a bit faster. No damage to anything.
You’ve been running e85 for a while, what are your thoughts long term ? Thanks
I personally love it. Car revs quicker, runs cooler, and better smell when catless.
Did you have to change out to bigger injectors and fuel pumps too? Or is the stock fuel system is just enough to run e85? On this m3?
The stock system is enough for e85 as long as you tune for it. You need upgraded injectors when supercharged.
@@Sals_Garage thanks man!
@@Affectionz1 anytime!
Great, detailed content.
Thanks a lot!
Hey i have an e92m3 and have an alpine motorsports tune on 91 octane will I need to tune to be used with e85 or will it adapt to the fuel thar in the car?
You don’t need a tune but you will need a flex fuel kit.
How did you like the kit? Did you feel a noticeable difference? I’m FBO rn, thinking of running this next. Thank you!
Slightly noticeable for performance. Better smell if catless. Safer for engine. Worth it in the end.
@@Sals_Garage awesome. I’m cat-less so that would be nice. Going to order it now, thanks!
@@Noisyrilo less fuel smell for sure 😆
Can I install the flex fuel sensor and not run e and drive the car around on 93oct until I tune for e85?
Yes absolutely you can, it auto adjusts the fuel sprayed by the injectors depending on the ethanol content level.
does the ethanol sensor or flexfuel ecu need power? I didn't see that part in the video.
It piggybacks power off of the injectors. Good luck 👍
will the e85 corrode at the original fuel lines over time ?
3 years later running e85 and the fuel lines still look very clean. I drive the car atleast once a week, don’t let it sit too long.
How do you like the E85 kit so far?
It’s great so far. Pulls strong. Only thing is the cold starts are a little longer.
hi sal im running full e85 on my e92 m3 supercharged upgraded fuel pump and 613cc injectors car pulls like a train made 460rwkw only issue is cold start ctakes 30 mins to start once warm no issue anytips tried all types of tuning maybe should run flex and e50 really cold here atm
any thoughts
Nice! Yea I would recommend no more than E60. There is a lot of diminishing returns after e60. Have your tuner send you a revised map for E50/60 and run that. Cold starts should be much better. For me I have the best result with E45. Flex fuel is very convenient.
@@Sals_Garage awsome ill get the ape box and retune it and get back thanks mate
@@TheMajical12 anytime! Good luck 👍
Why didn’t you upgrade to 1050x injectors ?
We are staying NA so it’s not needed. Stock injectors work just fine with flex fuel kit.
@@Sals_Garage did you tune it after installing your flex kit ?
@@gunteqkz2696 no tune necessary.
So it's just plug and play no canister to put fuels
Yessir plug and play
Bro so in your ape e85 video installation just the hardware and wires no canister no ethanol involved?
I heard a lot of pros for this but never a con. Is there one?
Cold starts are a struggle for me if I’m over E60 mix so I stay around E50 for summer and maybe E40 for winter time.
Definitely feeling the performance gain and peace of mind for healthier running engine.
Also, RIP mpg 😆
Hey bro, one more question about this. Is it smog legal?
@@im_so_es_ef_wit_it yes, smog legal, but I would mount it somewhere not easily seen by the smog tech just in case.
did you tune it?
Yes, BPM sport tune for e85 flex module.
Do you need a tune to run it?
No tune needed.
@@Sals_Garage thanks broski. This guy wants to sell his to me for 250.
@@snipenuub good deal 👍
Don't follow this guy he's not telling you everything. Buy the kit and save 2 grand and pay a professional BMW tuner to get it done as you'll need a tune most importantly after the kit is installed anyways.
Wrong, you can run this without a tune no issue. 👍
