Oh my goodness, you offer a fantastic, explanatory model for this function. Thank you so much. I am working on my thesis and although I should know a lot about the functions for SPSS, my cohort just did not receive enough of what we needed to know.
I want to compute 'status inconsistency' by having all respondents together with a higher degree + a job that doesnt require a higher degree. The variables: 1. JOB (yes(1) or no(2)): does your job require a higher education? 2. EDUC: Your highest education achievend So I gotta have JOB as 2 And EDUC basically below 4 (its scored 1-5 and above 3 is higher education) So I went to compute, named variable and did this: ((JOB =2) & (EDUC < 4 & > 0)) Apparantly this doesnt work... how do I do this?
hey, i would like to know, is the new variable AVG-MOOD could represent the answers to the 5 mood questions, which has been tested in the survey? does it mean i could use new avg-mood variable in the following calculation in the spss process
How do I change computed variables/subschales? I have checked with cronbach's alpha and I need to take 1 variable out of the subschale. Do I have to do this manually?
hello, thanx,it's really helpful. I hav 1 question,do we need to compute variables after we have entered all the data?i have entered half of my data and then computed it and later when i enter new data its not computed. so can you plz help me with this.
Good explanation, however, this is so intuitiveI don't know how it's useful. I was looking for some more complex calculations. Such as If/Then functions, or dealing with missing values. I'll keep looking, but perhaps you could make a more in-depth one in the future, that would be helpful.
As shruti says: "do we need to compute variables after we have entered all the data?i have entered half of my data and then computed it and later when i enter new data its not computed", answer please!
does anyone know what this means? "an expression contains a misplaced comma. check the expression for omitted or extra operands, operators, and parentheses. also check for a number specified with a comma as the decimal delimited. commas cannot be used as decimal delimiters in transformations"
I think it means you have an extra comma in your mathematical expression; for example, if you wanted to take the average of 3 variables (Var1, Var2, and Var 3), you could write, "MEAN(Var1,Var2,Var3)". If you wrote instead: "MEAN(Var1,Var2,Var3,), it would give you that error for the extra comma after the "Var3". If you post the expression you're writing, I can take a look.
Hello sir, what does it mean when it says "One of the operands for an arithmetic operation is other than a numeric variable or numeric expression." Would be very greatful
So nice to be able to find something that answers a question quickly. Sometimes when you are learning, the best way is by example of what you need.
You saved me from having a meltdown over my stats assignment. THANKYOU!!
Thank You sooo much for this upload, you dont know how much you've helped me, my whole results was depending on this one bit. x
life saver i dont understand my data analysis prof. so this was great
Thank you, it was a great help!
I have got it helpfull, thank you for your all effort.

T.J. Thompson I’m in the same boat :(
thank you, it really helped!
@Darotakhte, no problem. Happy to help. If you have other questions, feel free to email me.
thanks very much, this is very very helpful
@msgrenada, I am so happy it was helpful! Please let me know if I can help in any other way.
Thank you, helpful

OK but what if you have reverse coded items? The data view looks incomplete then.

hv u figured it out sir? i'm facing this right now :(
@@symrh sorry couldn't find out and reassigned all the data and then I was able to...
