To me, Freddy has always been the scariest monster since I was a kid… for 2 things. I don't recall Wes Craven ever saying A Nightmare on Elm Street was ever based on anything more than his own childhood experiences and the one story of the man who actually did die in his sleep
Its interesting, this video came out on the same day that I met Robert Englund at a horror convention. Such a friendly guy, he acted like we knew each other for years when we spoke.
Brad Pitt’s Assassination of Jesses James by the Coward Robert Ford would be a great choice to character study. I believe all 3 main cast members delivered their best performance of their career, maybe outside sam Rockwell for his 3 billboards performance. But Brad Pitt was on another level of mastery and brought someone to life, whether it be the real Jesse James or who he thought should fit the script. He was incredible and made every scene an eggshell walking moment. Please consider it. An underrated and unnoticed all time great movie. Also, your work is becoming like something I’ve never experienced. Your voice and narration fits so well with the content that you chose to use it for. Great ideas and I hope to see you continue this work and other art forms as well.
I maintain that his comedic personality is key to how much of an utter monster he is, even if it goes a little overboard in films 4-6, with a good balance being in 3 and FVJ. Fun Fact: Mr. Underwood was played by none other than Alice Cooper.
Robert Englund did an excellent job. Without him, I can't see how this would have worked. It's like Arnie & Terminator. Decent story & film gets carried to another dimension by a central, unique character different from the mould.
Part 2 is somewhat of an anomaly and sticks out like a sore thumb, but I think that's what the studio and/or director was going for. It's not as comedic as the other films and maybe they wanted something a little more serious and scary. It shows when part 3 brings back Nancy and the deaths are a little more exaggerated
@@danielolortegui8422 you know how I would improve the first one? (only the first one however because at the time there was no further backstory for Kruger other than what we get from Nancy’s mom), have Freddy be innocent, what I mean is keep the backstory the same, even having him be arrested for the child murders and let go, but add a twist that the parents learn after they’ve killed him that he actually wasn’t the one that committed the murders, that all the evidence were coincidences that pointed to Freddy as the murderer, but that’s all it was, a coincidence, legitimizing his vengeance against them and giving them a legit reason to cover up their actions.
Freddy was a very unique and frightening character in that 80's horror genre. There are many details sprinkled throughout the movies that are incredibly frightening to children particularly. Friday the 13th and other slasher type films were always pointed towards like late 18 or early 20s type of individuals. The first nightmare on elm Street was crazy as a child.
Such a great series! I’d love to see a breakdown for any of the characters below: 1. Monster (anime/manga) - Johan Liebert 2. Avatar the last air bender (tv series) - Princess Azula 3. X Men - Magneto 4. The Matrix - Agent Smith
This was a great breakdown of Freddie, would love to see you Syndrome from the Incredibles. May sound like a weird request but there is a line in the movie where he said "If everyone is super than no one will be" that was a very deep line.
I think that line was meant to say he wanted to be a hero because of how hood he was with gadgetry, but people like the Parr family who were born with heroic powers got all the attention. And because of how hurt he was by Bob/Mr. Incredible's rejection, he internalized that and devised a plan to sell his inventions and give overlooked people like himself the chance to be the heroes they couldn't be. Because if everyone's super, real superheroes don't really cut it anymore.
The Vile Eye’s narration style and voice make me feel like I’m watching some sort of secret CIA files from 60’s. Just put a black and white countdown at the start.
The addition to Freddy's backstory in the third movie feels like a massive plothole cause I would imagine everybody would be keeping their eye on Freddy and make it impossible to do anything bad. Hell, I'd half expect the newborn Freddy would have been left in the woods to be eaten by predators just in case.
In my head cannon the other nuns and priests probably thought about straight up killing baby Freddy or just allowing him to die. But they had a Frollo moment and figured that their immortal soul is more important than being rid of him so they were obligated to take care of him. But they probably did the bare minimum and stayed far away from him or worse antagonized the other children to start bullying him and he started acting out. Then either Mr. Underwood probably either adducted him or the orphanage just gave Freddy to a drunk pimp just to be rid of him and celebrated that he was gone for good. And since Mr. Underwood was a pimp in the comics little Freddy would have been scared by a lot of the shit that was probably going on around him. If not Mr. Underwood only adopted him just to make a quick buck off of sick fucks that wanted to take advantage of little Freddy. Which probably turned him into the monster that he became. But that's just my head cannon though.
Excited for the new vid. If I could put out a suggestion out, my top one would be Davey Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean, one of my favorite underrated movie villains
Jackie Earle Haley's phenomenal performance transcended the remakes ability to instill fear itself. His performance is what sells the remakes true terror.
Freddy Kruger is one of the 5 Kings of the Slasher genre(alongside Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface and Pinhead) Also known as The Son of a 100 Maniacs The Demon of Dreams The Living Nightmare. Great video as always Vile Eye. PS: still waiting on El Sueno from Wildlands Griffith from Berserk.
I'd be really curious to see you analyzing the remake's characterization of Freddy, as I think that there's actually a lot of layers of depth to his evil in that incarnation.
Great review, Halloween is right on the corner and Freddy complements the date well! As a sugestion, I'd like to see an analysis on Titan, from Megamind. He's a bit of a meme right now, but I think he breaks the mold for supervilains in a unprecedented way. I mean, what other big main villain can be both cruel AND stupid? His pettiness alone makes him a very unique kind of villain
Also, Chucky from Child’s play. In particular the first and second child’s play, possibly with the new chucky series once it finishes. Think on it Mr Vile. Loving the work man, you’re on to great things.
That mirror crap from the 4th movie (pretty sure it was the fourth) was the lamest Freddy take-down of all time. 1st movie: Freddy loses his power after his victim lures him out of the dream-world and into a booby-trapped house, and loses all fear of him. 2nd movie: Freddy is burned to death in a mortal body. 3rd movie: They track down his remains and (temporarily) force his spirit to rest by purifying them. 4th movie: Freddy looks into a fucking mirror...
Nightmare 3,4,5 are peak of Freddy Krueger especially 4 and 5, totally underrate arthouse horror like Susperia… 5 really explored into the lore of Freddy and IMO wrapped up the story really well. Next to Scream I think this is a perfect horror saga. Fantastic job as always covering a villain mate ❤️
Robert says Freddy represents neglect of the parents and Wes said he was sins of parents being visited on the children. These kids almost had to fight him without adults and alone. Freddy is when your parents throw you to the wolf's. The kids had to face a evil they did not make. All alone at first and later with each other. Seems the parents were almost secondary antagonist. I agree with Robert. He represents the neglect from bad parents and the consequences from their neglect. Jason and Michael Myers are more forces of nature. Freddy is personal. His evil is personal and out to get you.
What I find really funny is that Freddy is by far one of the most disgusting characters ever to be thought up but the actor who plays him is one of the sweetest people in the world 😂 you listen to interviews of people who worked with him and they only have nice things to say about him. One girl was saying that they were talking and joking around before shooting and then when he was dressed up she got really scared until he started talking lol
His idea of revenge makes sense in a…sadistic manner. Death would be too quick, even if he could have made it slow. But by killing their children he hurts them in a mental way and making their parents feel pain worse than any physical injury could hope to.
I have always said that the Nightmare on Elm Street movies were about bad parenting. When you look at the parents in these movies, they are awful! Drunk, absent, abusive in their own right or just apathetic to their kids' visions of Freddy, most of these parents end up having something about them that directly foreshadows their child's demise. The fact that these same parents killed Freddy themselves and yet call their own children crazy for claiming to see him in their dreams was absolutely mind boggling. Your kid is being haunted by the spirit of the guy you helped to kill and you won't believe them. That is denial on another kind of level.
That's an interesting idea, but in Nightmare 6, it was mentioned that they're basically immortal. So if they lose one agent of evil, like Freddy, they can always find another. Personally, I didn't care for that story line-- it felt like a loose end that had to be tied up so people would stop asking questions. In death, Freddy became a Word of Mouth ghost story that kids were still afraid of. Just like the Candyman. The more stock they put in his name, the easier it was for him to make a comeback.
“They do form a somewhat cohesive story for Freddy. Which is an achievement that a few other series in this genre notably lack.” The SLANDER. Most of it deserved, but still. *cough cough* Halloween *cough cough*
Love this series! Keep up the excellent work! Some future characters if you run out of villains anytime soon. These could be shorter character studies if you don't have the time for a committed - Beldam from Coraline. - Commander Rourke from Atlantis: The Lost Empire. - Long John Silver (your pick on what version.) - Clayton from Disney's Tarzan. - Hector Barbossa (Pirates of the Caribbean) - Davy Jones (POTC again) - The Rescuers Madame Medusa and McLeach. - Bullseye from Daredevil. - P. Sherman from Finding Nemo.
One, two, Freddy's coming for you Three, four, better lock your door Five, six, grab your crucifix Seven, eight, better stay awake Nine, ten, never sleep again - Wes Craven
Love your channel. Your analysis is great. My idea for the next villains should be Joffrey Baratheon from Game of Thrones or Dutch Van Der Linde from Red Dead Redemption. Also Thanos would make a good video as well
A few good options: Ray or Mickie Donovan (Ray Donovan), Vaas Montenegro (Farcry 3), Gus Fring (Breaking Bad), Tywin Lannister (Game of Thrones), Nicky Santoro (Casino)

I never thought about it before watching this video, but at its vile core, "Jason vs. Freddy" is a fight between a bully victim and a bully victim. So, don't be a bully; you might create a monster.
In the Freddy vs Jason debates that happened around the movie, people always argued about who is more evil, Freddy or Jason. My answer was always easily, without hesitation, Freddy, and the why is exactly what you nailed down: Freddy was "born evil" with the background and mental disorders that come with the type of father he probably had on a genetic level as well as the trauma surrounding his household. He grew into an absolute sociopath. Jason was dead before he could grow up into adulthood. He was cruelly taunted for his ugly features, but otherwise was an innocent kid, who fell victim to adult guardians who neglected their duties to have hookups. Jason was a victim, everything he's done has been because of his mother or lashing out against the people he feels are responsible for her death
That perfect rhyme of Freddy targeting the children of the kids who bullied him in school, the same way he targets the children of the people who burned him alive, is such a clever and insightful observation that I don't truly think anyone thought of that before, not even the writers.
I'd love to see you do one of these videos for Light Yagami. He's an interesting one since unlike a lot of villains his evil doesn't seem to come from a place of childhood trauma or manipulation.
this one is perfect for Halloween :) Freddy had amazing puns before he killed his victims. Maybe he learned that in slasher villain school. Joking aside, this was an awesome episode. and as far as villains go it would be awesome to see Vic Mackey but his episode would probably be as long as Tony Soprano's so it might be awhile. I would love to see an episode about The Jack Nicholson Joker from the 1989 Batman. Also an episode about Andrew Cunanan from the second season of American Crime story would make an interesting video.
Have you ever thought about doing a joint episode on Matt and Alejandro from Sicario? Would be a super interesting episode among the series because of the “ends justify the mean” debate around their actions, as well as Alejandros possible justifications because of his past.
@@ashtmslf2315 And yet, we all thought he was good back when he released. However, killers like Wraith, Leatherface and Doctor were so awful back then which made him look superior in comparison.
One of the truest cases of "he never stood a chance". He was BORN twisted and evil. As a baby he was in the crib when his adopted parents were killed in a police shootout (in the comics), along with being raised in other terrible environments. He's unique, he knows what he is, how evil he is and embraces it, enjoys it. BAD is literally in his DNA.

Bruh Freddy became a god when he got his claws on the Necronomicon in the FvJvA comic
@@PunkNetrunner that's right!
@troll-man The basic gist of it was that Freddy wanted to get his hands on the Necrnomicon which would allow him to become a God and Ash had to stop him and Jason.
@troll-man The ending was kind of up in the air. Freddy was imprisoned but he still had the book.
To me, Freddy has always been the scariest monster since I was a kid… for 2 things.
( and one which I just discovered weeks ago)
1: His physiognomy fits a stereotypical real life creepy serial killer
2: He haunts you in a place where if not most of us then some of us typically use to rest & escape reality
Loved the video. Just as a side note, in a deleted scene of Freddy vs Jason, Freddy invades Lori's dream pretending to be Will as they had sex but then reveals himself and is implied that he killed Lori. So yea he's definitely still killing in springwood
Freddy might have been partially inspired by Albert Fish, a masochistic cannibal who was excited for his execution, because it'd be a new sensation.
I don't recall Wes Craven ever saying A Nightmare on Elm Street was ever based on anything more than his own childhood experiences and the one story of the man who actually did die in his sleep
Ik this is 2 years late but also he targeted children too
Its interesting, this video came out on the same day that I met Robert Englund at a horror convention.
I think the assaination of Jesse's James with brad Pitt is a fucking awesome film ....Pitt is like a spectre and Casey afflect is just brilliant
I’d like to see analysis’s of
-Clay from Sons of Anarchy
-Cersei from Game of Thrones
-Gus from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul
-T-Bag from Prison Break
Clay would be great. Hell even Gemma would be an interesting video.
Gus would be good to analyse once Better Call Saul reaches its finale.
@@bathshebahubber614 And Saul himself, of course.
Fuck I'd love a clay one dude you're the goat
I maintain that his comedic personality is key to how much of an utter monster he is, even if it goes a little overboard in films 4-6, with a good balance being in 3 and FVJ.
Fun Fact: Mr. Underwood was played by none other than Alice Cooper.
Agreed. The fact that he takes such glee in being a sadistic monster makes him worse than a silent killer like Jason or Michael.
(only the first one however because at the time there was no further backstory for Kruger other than what we get from Nancy’s mom), have Freddy be innocent, what I mean is keep the backstory the same, even having him be arrested for the child murders and let go, but add a twist that the parents learn after they’ve killed him that he actually wasn’t the one that committed the murders, that all the evidence were coincidences that pointed to Freddy as the murderer, but that’s all it was, a coincidence, legitimizing his vengeance against them and giving them a legit reason to cover up their actions.
my favorite nightmare on elm street movies be dream Warrior
Freddy was a very unique and frightening character in that 80's horror genre. There are many details sprinkled throughout the movies that are incredibly frightening to children particularly. Friday the 13th and other slasher type films were always pointed towards like late 18 or early 20s type of individuals. The first nightmare on elm Street was crazy as a child.
Such a great series! I’d love to see a breakdown for any of the characters below:
1. Monster (anime/manga) - Johan Liebert
2. Avatar the last air bender (tv series) - Princess Azula
3. X Men - Magneto
4. The Matrix - Agent Smith
well, still waiting on magneto, but other than that, spot on
funny thing is Robert Englund is a gentleman and a seriously chill and humorous man
Analyzing Evil: Marlo Stanfield from the Wire. You gotta do this man.
This couldn’t be more on the nail for what I wanted
Freddy is my fav slasher. Always loved his campy humor and inventive killing methods.
Same
When he killed teenagers?
Now we're talking! One of the most evil characters ever created!
Probably my favorite of the analyzing evil episodes thus far. It's likely the most well-researched and comprehensive of the lot.
This was a great breakdown of Freddie, would love to see you Syndrome from the Incredibles.
May sound like a weird request but there is a line in the movie where he said "If everyone is super than no one will be" that was a very deep line.
Syndrome is both the hero and villain of his own story
So, I'm guessing his ultimate nemesis would be Dr Phil. I want to see Freddy Kruger vs Dr Phil.
Knowing how much of a manipulative sadist Dr. Phil can be, I'd be rooting for Freddy.
@@mikep9312 fucking hell that made me burst out laughing dude!
😁🤣🤣🤣
Actually it’d be Chris Hansen
The addition to Freddy's backstory in the third movie feels like a massive plothole cause I would imagine everybody would be keeping their eye on Freddy and make it impossible to do anything bad.
Hell, I'd half expect the newborn Freddy would have been left in the woods to be eaten by predators just in case.
Hey
Except he was adopted and that usually isn't public record. Plus it had been decades by the time he started killing.
Ever thought of doing the various movie incarnations of Dracula? Oldman's, Lee's and Kinski's portrayals are particularly rich in analytical material.
True. But the real Vlad Tepes’ sheer monstrosity makes all of them look like Mr. Rogers
Excited for the new vid. If I could put out a suggestion out, my top one would be Davey Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean, one of my favorite underrated movie villains
True
I think Freddy might be at his most evil in New Nightmare.
That version of the character was much truer to what Craven had originally intended.
And the second movie. He didn't poke any jokes and had fleshy brunt skin, which is also scary.
What I find most interesting about New Nightmare is that it's technically not Freddy, but a shape shifting demon who takes on the form of Freddy.
The addition of the trenchcoat makes him look like the sleep paralysis demon known as Hat Man.
Jackie Earle Haley's phenomenal performance transcended the remakes ability to instill fear itself. His performance is what sells the remakes true terror.
And he looked hella scary, much more than England which I still like
Yeah he was the only good aspect of that film. He alone makes it worth a watch even if it's otherwise inherently a bad movie.
That "I'l be seeing you .. soon" was so ominous, man
Brilliant video - thank you.
Freddy has a great sense of humor and really loves his work. A true professional.
I like that you point out Freddy's masochism and that it was a self-defense mechanism to deal with his stepfather.
I didn't really get that part? How was was it a self defense mechanism?
@@lufesaro7741Freddy's stepfather whips him and Freddy laughs the stepfather is confused how to hurt Freddy and has no more power over him.
The campiness and comedy serves perfectly as dreams and the Dreamworld is more abstract than reality.

I'd be really curious to see you analyzing the remake's characterization of Freddy, as I think that there's actually a lot of layers of depth to his evil in that incarnation.
He’s the same as the original Freddy but in different ways.
Abigail from The Crucible would be cool to cover next.
Glad you got to Freddy. When you analyze him you're analyzing the absolute purity of evil.
This would be a good dual episode exploring how Megamind was evil because of societal expectation, whereas Titan was evil of his own volition.
Also, Chucky from Child’s play. In particular the first and second child’s play, possibly with the new chucky series once it finishes. Think on it Mr Vile. Loving the work man, you’re on to great things.
He's so evil he got resurrected by dog pee in one movie.
Very common! Like the guy who plays Joffrey is also super sweet. They're just good actors.
Your video output rate and quality are simply mind-boggling. I don't know how you do it but hats off to you!
Aaaand that’s why Freddy is my favourite horror icon
His idea of revenge makes sense in a…sadistic manner. Death would be too quick, even if he could have made it slow. But by killing their children he hurts them in a mental way and making their parents feel pain worse than any physical injury could hope to.
Its so nice to start speaking when the "evil" is starting to speak
I have always said that the Nightmare on Elm Street movies were about bad parenting. When you look at the parents in these movies, they are awful! Drunk, absent, abusive in their own right or just apathetic to their kids' visions of Freddy, most of these parents end up having something about them that directly foreshadows their child's demise.
The fact that these same parents killed Freddy themselves and yet call their own children crazy for claiming to see him in their dreams was absolutely mind boggling. Your kid is being haunted by the spirit of the guy you helped to kill and you won't believe them. That is denial on another kind of level.
Freddy can represent what those kids could have been if they took the wrong path.
If you want to defeat Freddy once and for all you must figure out how to destroy his source of power, those fish-demon things.
Which is an achievement that a few other series in this genre notably lack.”
The SLANDER. Most of it deserved, but still. *cough cough* Halloween *cough cough*
Robert Carlyle's character in the movie "Ravenous" would be awesome!

My answer was always easily, without hesitation, Freddy, and the why is exactly what you nailed down:
Freddy was "born evil" with the background and mental disorders that come with the type of father he probably had on a genetic level as well as the trauma surrounding his household.
You should do yoshikage kira. He's such a neat villain
“The Springwood Slasher! That’s what they called me.”
this one is perfect for Halloween :) Freddy had amazing puns before he killed his victims.

@Living off love songs, wrong but ok
One of the truest cases of "he never stood a chance". He was BORN twisted and evil. As a baby he was in the crib when his adopted parents were killed in a police shootout (in the comics), along with being raised in other terrible environments. He's unique, he knows what he is, how evil he is and embraces it, enjoys it. BAD is literally in his DNA.
Great villain/ monster. there's a great song about him called American Nightmare by the band Ice Nine Kills, btw.
I'm loving this series. In a future episode I'd love to see an analysis if General Mireau from Paths of Glory

The way you time your voiced intros with the dialogue of the characters in the videos is pretty cool, this one might be my favorite in that regard.
