Which tempo, the orchestra or the show off soloist who speeds up when they leave him alone? I've seen children playing this which are more aware of that detail.
Everyone talking about the tempo... As a soloist, you can choose the tempo you wish to play at. It sounded wonderful, and in music that's what matter. Everyone has their viewpoints on what the tempo should be, but anyone could argue the tempo as being too fast or too slow.. For me personally, it's nice to hear diversity in music.
Yes, the soloist wanted the tempo so, and that is the freedom of interpretation. There is no law on a general tempo.Just because this concert many beginners play too slow, it seems too fast. Because you always hear it slower.
But a virtuoso can play it faster, why not. Tempo is relative.
Would be boring if all the violinists were playing the same!!!, right?
If our civilization does not understand that the measure of greatness can only be beauty, it will perish just like the previous ones...
On my sheet, the tempo is 1:Allegro(110-131), 2:Largo(45-49) and 3:Prest(168-177).
I think this video is pretty correct in tempo and I love this.
At this tempo I can be back in time for supper

when I was a child I used to practice so hard for this piece... it hold a very special position in my heart. I listen to loads of different recordings but always comeback to this. Perfect. Best , at least for me. Very well managed. Thank you for uploading this treasure.

100 times I listen this concerto but 2nd movement always bring my tears. Vivaldi is a great composer. Love from India.

Go to minute 6:19 and then play from 0:00 you will realise that it's organic the all concerto. Il Tempo it´s relative even if you think it's too fast... BRAVOOO to all the artists!!!

Aside, Vivaldi was born in 1678 & Europe suffered a mini ice age at the time, from 1645 till 1715(aka the Maunder Minimum)-(the Maunders themselves have interesting tales on observations).
So for most of his young life, it would have been baltic cold, so you'd be inclined to stay indoors and practise. No wonder he was so good :D.
