    You are a star, thank you... my problem solved, it was the STUCK LEVER that you hilited. I removed the nut, added a few drops of lighter fluid and jiggled it back into action. Finished off with a drop of light machine oil (eg. sewing machine oil) and replaced the nut. VCR is now working perfectly.

    Aw, man! Your way of cleaning video head tips by finger is just anything else than cleaning. In that way you've tarnished heads with dirt and grease from skin.

    I had the same problem with another Sony VCR. Watching your video gave me the idea that one of the tape pitch rollers was not working. There are two of them, one on the each side to press the tape against the head drum. I checked mine VCR and indeed that one of the gears was broken. However, you can still find them one the net. kp components of Canada carries some, but other companies too.

    I bought the same exact VCR from a thrift store today for like a couple bucks. I am gonna hook mine up and see if it works. I think this VCR comes from 1992 and was a top dog for the times!

      You're just as dumb as he is. This issue is the MOST COMMON issue of the VCR mechanism. All he did was make a fool of himself and ruin his heads with his fucking finger.

    When you put your finger on the head you destroy the head! The very tiny heads in the rotating drum have very tiny little windings and they must be cleaned with alcohol and very carefuly without power on the unit. The procedure must be done by someone that understands the principles of magnetism and is familiared with various types of heads. Some Philips VHS players have a type of head that even a damaged tape can rip the heads off completely. Sory about my poor english. NEVER DO THAT WAY.

    What I used to do I would force the player to play eventhough no image is there. I would play the whole damn play and preview it. Rewind and fast forward too. After some time, it would come back with a image. Tested on a 1988 Grunding VHS and a 1993 Sharp VHS.

  • @themaskedgamer102

    @SegaAM4 Sorry for the late reply. Even though its still hifi you still called the video head just the video drum and the track head the audio and track head. He obviously doesnt know the names of the heads.

    instead of using your finger, can you use a q tip and some 90% alcohol? I have a Sony that shows no image in play except for a Grey screen. when i fast forward it, i can see the image.

    Hi Mr. X2Y, you have a lot of knowladge with VCRs.
    I have a SONY SLV E-50. When I PLAY the VCR after 3 seconds stops. The tape it's okay, everything is okay. I presume it's problem on the Reel sensor. The problem I have is I can't take out that green electronic cover that you had take it so easly. My VCR has more electronic covers that are stuck even after I unplug connections. For the VCR SONY SLV-50 can you send instructions so I can take out the plates? Do you now where are the Reel sensors?

  • @conceptedge
    @conceptedge 12 лет назад

    Nooooo! You can find those parts on the web. They are hard to find because of the age and you need to know the part number. However, most Sony VCRs share a common mechanical design. I even have some those gears.

    Get your facts straight dude. The video drum does not pick up audio. The tracking head is the audio head. Haven't your heard the damn term AUDIO AND TRACK HEAD? In a hifi unit, the drum picks up some audio, but not all of it.

    video stop at 2:16. To the right of this machine underneath your hand is a motor.
    What is this motor called? And what would do if it didn't work.

    • @supermasterPIK
      @supermasterPIK 8 лет назад

      Eject motor. spins and the white worm gear makes gears move to eject tape.

    Why Sony decided to make fast forward search operate only if button is pressed on remote? If you lift your finger from forward button, will Play normally.
    It´s a little annoying. Other brands don´t do it.

  • @lezbriddon

    looks like a combined stereo record/playback/tracking head but what would I know...
    And that finger on the video head business, and thinking its doing good, omg.
    If you do that because you saw someone else do it, its possible he had a piece of head cleaning cloth/paper in his hand..
    just for people who care about there equipment, oils from fingers in a VCR is not something you want, no oils at all, of any kind, anything that needs lube needs a high temp white grease, and a minimal amount.

  • @1974silverboy

    muppet. laugh if you tore the head tips out of the drum! soak a 2 inch by 2cm piece of paper in alcohol, hold GENTLY against the drum and rotate slowly by hand till paper is clean. Never use cleaner tapes either.

    I had an even better Sony with the same EXACT problem, the same exact broken blue gear. This happens to these. Sony should have made that gear out of metal. I tried to fix it but coudnt. I ended up having to throw away the entire unit over one stupid platic gear. This really put me in a bad mood. If any of you readers needs other parts you better let me know and ill go outside and pull it for you. You have till monday morning when the garbage man comes.

    You know nothing about the heads. The video drum is not the audio head. If its a hifi the drum will pick up stereo sound, and the tracking head which its real name is the audio and track head, will pick up mono encoded sound. The video drum is not the only thing that picks up audio. LEARN!!!!
