Today, in 2020, with your help, I ve got fixed a Sony SLV315 cp. All it was wrong, was that you show us in this video. Blue gear, stuck arm and clean the rotary encoder. Thank you so much. Albert
Thank you for posting this!!!! I found the gear at Studio Sound Electronics. I was able to perform the repair with your advice. I am sure I would not have been able to figure it out by myself!
I really liked the nice, clean Bird's Eye footage. It was great having everything laid out in one shot. It is a real help to see where the different mechanisms are located on top of the circuit board. Thanks for sharing the Business name. Best to know where to get these cogs.
Thanks for posting this video, Got SLV-494 at value village for 7.99 and it had same issue. Glued and solder stitched the broken gear together by using little metal [ pins Running perfectly : )
I have the Sony 676UC deck that has the left arm not functioning just like the one in your video. I have not yet tried to take the mechanical section apart (or remove it from the machine) yet but I suspect that the gear is broken, just as you mentioned in your video. Can you supply this gear? If so, how do I go about getting it from you? Thanks.
Hi @1000uf, I have a Sony VCR SLV-X812.. it wont accept a tape. I tried to push the tape in but it wont load (tape wont go further into the machine) what do you think of its problem? Cos any repair shop in my country won't fix VCR anymore 😭 btw Im from Malaysia
Good eyes. I think it may be due to one of the broken wire connection that may be controlling the capstan upward movement. I cannot say for sure what is the cause.
Fantastic- but one of the ribbon cables came loose, and have no idea how to plug it back into the black connector-- can you give instructions?-- so so much appreciated!!
Ed Deet Without seeing it, I cannot say with certainty how to do it. However, one tip is to use a long tweezer to put back a connector in a hard to reach spot.
Wow- really enjoyed the video-- I have a Sony SLV R5UC with the exact problem!-- but I can't find a manufacturer or supplier for the part. Could you forward me the supplier you were able to get your part from?-- It LOOKs like the part may be universal to the Sony VCR's. BTW- do you have a video of how to remove the circuit board at the bottom that covers the gears?-- I cannot seem to get it disconnected, and I don't want to break the cables. Again, many thanks for sharing!
Chantal Bertin What parts do you need? I may have them. About removing the circuit board, a long tweezer may help in disconnecting some connector. If you see one or two connectors with exposed bare flat wires, those are detachable at the main board end. It should disconnect with ease.
Mathew Lerandeau The head drum could need replacement. It depends on its age, usage, and environment,. Head drum does not last forever, and eventually loses its coating. It would be helpful it you could post a video showing the symptom.
Thank you for your sensational video. I have the same gear broken in two old videos Sony SLV 625-815. I can send the reference of the part of KP Components to ask? Thank you very much again (Google translator). Gracias por tu sensacional video. Tengo el mismo engranaje roto en dos videos antiguos Sony SLV 625-815. Me puedes enviar la referencia de la pieza de KP Components para pedirla? Muchas gracias de nuevo. Google traductor
1000uf thanks for the reply. You really think it could be bad capacitors? All the power functions seem to work well i.e. no blinking or dimming lights. It seems as if when the tape is in the down position something is not telling the machine to advance further. I've already put a new mode switch in so I don't think it's that.

I have an SLV-825 with exact the same problem How do i become this gear,
What can you say abour SLV -X65? Around 1991?
Found 2 almost like new.
What do you mean? Can you tell me the time reference so I can check.
Do you have load motor for Toshiba VCR?? Mine is failing (bearing failing).
I am afraid that I don't. I have a bunch of Sony parts instead.
Can anyone tell me why my Go-Video double deck VCR has a foggy picture even after I've cleaned the heads 27 times?

I don't know how to post a video on RUclips. This Double Deck VCR is from 94. Do you think it's foggy cause of my HD T.V?
