    This style of sailing looks like a lot of fun, and adds an element of excitement. From a safety perspective I want to say:
    Someone below mentioned penalties if the obstacle is missed, which makes sense. So the penalty amount will need to be determined.
    Also, if a sailor falls while attempting the obstacle, a following sailor might need to avoid that area, and it doesn't make sense to penalize them, as long as they don't gain a speed advantage. AMA Supercross has this sort of rule, where if a rider is forced to avoid/can't make a section, they can ride around it and will not be penalized if they don't gain a time advantage on a rider ahead of them.

    • @dairyairman
      @dairyairman 6 месяцев назад

      I was thinking that too. I can imagine that it would be a difficult situation if a sailor in front of you didn't make the jump and fell. You probably wouldn't be able to sail around the obstacle because you're going too fast and are too close to it. You probably wouldn't want to jump because you might land on the fallen sailor. You can't slow down either because you must jump the obstacle to get over it. What do you do? Maybe the best thing is to make sure that you are not directly behind someone when you approach the obstacle. It'll be interesting to see what actually happens in real events.

    The more I see and understand Slalom X the more I believe its going to be awesome to watch provided we have good drone footage as spectators. This is key for us armchair windsurfers. Great footage of the junping will also get more viewers even if its on youtube afterwards.
    I also understand Obs will be on the second leg so why not have a 2nd Obs on the course say the 3rd leg. The issue I have is a faller once they go down at Obs 1 is most certainly out of the race even if someone drops a straight fwd gybe further down its unlikley they will catch up to be a thread to the leaders. A second Obs would keep the preasure on the leaders to make another faultless second jump and should they fall there is an incentive for the back markers (earlier fallers) to keep racing and not just give up which is very likley to happen. This will certainly make for potentally closer and more exciting racing as tactics, position, fitness, skill techniques will all count in every Slalom X race so we really do get a worthy overall winner (Ok, you're all winners but you get my drift ;-))
    Those that just think its a circus, then lets give then a very high octane entertaining performance from start to finish.

      If it is too complicated to do two track options, one with jump and other without, it could be just one track, but the sailor who opted to jump the sausage, at the end has for example, -15s to the total time. Like a bonus!

    • @PlanetsandtheWater
      @PlanetsandtheWater 6 месяцев назад

      That's amazing, but it's difficult to adjust the 2 options to be always slightly favored to the jump. We're at the course moving marks non stop the whole day to adjust to wind direction, intensity, waves, tides, ferry lines...

    Around 2003 PWA introduced Super X which was slalom including jumping over 'sausages', freestyle moves and loops.
    It added some real action, and it was no longer only the big guys who won. And the brands developed Super X boards which were very close to what we ordinary windsurfers looked for. Boards that very seriousely fast and funny to throw around.
    I don't know why it disappeared.

    Loving it! Amazing riders working the uncertainty of the situation! I think that regular slalom (incl. foiling) has lost that magic somewhere and may be a bit boring to watch for someone who doesn't have own slalom board. We need some waves and jumps if people are supposed to sit at the very edge of a chair. I really keep my fingers crossed that this formula turns out safe enough and makes windsurfing great again. 😉

    Hello! Very cool to see!!!!! and i'm guessing very cool to do, but what if there is a fail or two on the jump part, and the riders coming to the sausage can't send their jumps without becoming a danger to the fallen rider's heads? maybe making a wide door so people can go jump a little further away for safety, without compromising too much on the time it'd get to change the trajectory? KEEP UP THE VIBE! WE SEND LOVE AND STRENGH FROM FRANCE!!

    I am very excited about the new Slalom X and am looking forward to it.
    It's also a lot of fun to watch.
    especially the beach start and beach finish.
    But I also see great potential for unnecessary injuries if someone falls and is run over by the person following them.
    Filming for viewers at home also urgently needs to be improved.
    E.g. a fixed camera at each station, e.g. through a drone. that the surfers driving past seem very dim, but as a viewer you have a stable viewpoint from the camera point.
    This is important for an immersive feeling.
    Flying drones that fly over the field are nice but seem very far away from the action, even if they are very close to the individual surfer.
    If possible, place a few microphones that have the original sound of the surfer, which creates a lot of feeling. possibly with 1-3 surfers on equipment (helmets or something like that).
    Turn off the sound during a football game or car race, it's not half as cool

    i dont like the concept. i think two separete disciplines , foil and fin would be enough. i also think adding lightweight heawyweigt divisions would attract more people to join the races. investing on live streaming , while commentaters explain what is going on on the course every 30- 40 minutes on live stream would hook more viewers . the quality and drone footages were quite good last couple of years..investing more on the streaming would get a very high benefit in long term .

    The downside of the whole thing is that organisers have to opt for slalom x or foil slalom before the event. I understand why, but it will lead to more waiting, more aborted races, all the things we have forgotten about because with the foil you could go in lighter winds. Even Pozo and Fuerte can have light days, and it'll only become more unstable with weather systems changing due to climate change.

      That was my main concern as well - even though I love the epic footage! But a longer sausage might be hard to fix in a defined line - especially in the waves. Maybe it would be enough to place it in the very last 50m of the course. The field of the riders is mostly very thinned out at this point. And even if the one in the lead would fall - everyone would still see who has the advantage in speed...

    I don't think we need any obstacles or any monkey business to make slalom exciting. Slalom shouldn't be a flat spot discipline where the fastest kit has a massive advantage. A lot of windsurfers are discouraged from racing because they don't have a chance to compete against the guys on new kit which costs 10 000. Most of the PWA slalom races which I have watched is just about having a good start and a good first gybe then the gap to the rest is so big that theres is no point watching the rest of the race. Instead just have slalom in more exciting spots, between the waves, where the most skilled rider can take an advantage. When its windy and the waves are rolling and anything can happen, people can crash, people can find speed between the swell, people are going to crash. There can be a qualifier for local riders before the races, have 1 or 2 local riders take part in the races, in difficult conditions on their home spot I think a skilled rider can outperform a pwa rider, have some new faces to make it more exciting instead of watching the same handful of top riders from the last 10 years.
