  • Evolving Management Strategies for Moderate-to-Severe Atopic Dermatitis
This Evidence-Based Best Practices™ program addresses the needs of dermatologists and other healthcare professionals involved in the treatment of patients with atopic dermatitis. Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory condition with manifestations in the skin and other organ systems throughout the body. Increasing in prevalence over the last 2 decades, the disease places tremendous burdens on adult, adolescent, and pediatric patients, as well as family members and caregivers. A better understanding of disease pathophysiology and effects on patient health and quality of life highlight the need for prompt diagnosis and proactive management. Moreover, research into the mechanisms underlying atopic dermatitis pathogenesis and progression supports the development of new approaches to disease characterization, ongoing patient monitoring, and treatment. With the overall goal of improving outcomes for patients with active atopic dermatitis, the program will integrate clinical data and professional experience into actionable recommendations that can be used to individualize care and improve patient-clinician communication.

I suffered from Atopic Epidermatisis for 4 months and I literally scratched and torn my skin layers in leg part. Antibiotic injection worked for 1 week and thereafter, same story continues. I found a relief after constantly applying a moisturiser and used a small brush whenever I felt itchy rather than using my hands and peeling my skin completely.

Yes me too. I did use moisturizer too and it kinda helped to keep my skin feel good. ( I thought dry skin is the problem so I just moisturized it lol). I would use it daily twice after bathing but found out my skin became dry again when I don't use it for 1 day. I'm having it for almost 7 months now, but thankfully almost 85% cleared.

Hey you, use your hair dryer on a medium heat setting. And slowly move the hair dryer like a fan over your itch area. It's like the greatest itch -cheat you can get that just as satisfying. This way you'll protect your skin and less risk to creating more bacteria buildup inside your skin. Stay well champion!

Guys I used moisturizers for about 4 - 5 months and I am completely fine now. Hear and there, I would get a skin allergy which I cured immediately with the help of doctor. Now I am in a stage where even If I don't use moisturizer, my legs feel and look gud. First step is to know the problem and find a solution. I had some situation what had bothered me a lot and got of it which too had helped me.

I feel for you my friend I really do, I had a SEVERE flare up after either the Covid Vaccine or Antibiotic (sinus infection from tooth infection) And I am nearing the end of week 2 and it's finally lightened up. But, it was severe huge patches that itched so badly and kept me up for days. You mentioned using a small brush, that's smart I always thought to myself I need to keep my skin protected and not damage it further by scratching but the itching was unbearable and I literally couldn't stop myself and antihistamines weren't even touching it or helping at all. So, I cut my nails and today I was thinking if I just need to itch to find relief I need to itch safely so I am going to try your brush idea, and also moisturize! also, avoid triggers folks do some research and find your allergens/irritants in your environment and avoid them like the plague! I came in contact with a floor sofa I bought years ago and had a severe flare up and came to discover it contained some preservative that caused skin problems.
As much as this condition sucks, it is interesting to research into how and why, and apparently it's a genetic mutation that causes a compromised skin barrier, it's interesting but also sucks pretty bad to have
best wishes to everyone with this condition and I hope you all find relief and have less episodes in the future after being educated, knowledge is power folks! :)

I had servere atopic epidermatiris after a lot of research try and error, I got rid of it almost completely. My solution is supplemenentation with omega3, probiotica, vit c, magnesium, zink, selenium and most important vit d, exercise and quiting milk products, except cheese. Vit d was key, in my perception.

I've had eczema for 30 years (since I was a baby) and it was severe on my whole body for many years but it's relatively under control now. I know everyone's skin is different but this is what I do:
      - have a quick 3 minute lukewarm to slight cold shower in the morning or night and pat (not rub) the skin lightly with a towel
      - apply a hydrating toner or just grab a hydrating face mask (same thing but a bit heavier longer lasting) - use it on whole body (I like Secret Key - Fresh Nature Toner (aloe vera) and chuck in a face mask in there to strengthen it. I'm not particular about the face mask but found some chamomile and blue algea ones on special for 50c at Kmart. It's the disposable cloth type ones that come in a flat plastic packet to use once on your face (not the cream ones that come in a tub).
      - follow by a serum or light lotion specifically with ceramides and HLA (I use Cerave lotion atm)
      - follow by a thick moisturiser (go for ones that repair the skin barrier or balance lipids - I'm using Bioderma Atoderm Intensive Baume atm)
      - if my skin is flaking I use gentle exfoliating toners that contain AHA or pha usually in winter and then use a gentle cleanser to scrub of the dead skin using the palms of my hands
      - in summer I usually skip either the lotion or the moisturiser because it gets too much with the heat
-it's very imperative that you try not to rub, scrub and damage the skin as much as possible
*Aside from the shower, follow this skin routine between 3-5 times a day. Aside from the occasional flare ups on my hands and under my knees, I get complimented for having a clear skin complexion so I'm nearly there!
      For the itch...
      - I shove the body area under running water and slowly make it hotter until it 'hit's the spot' and then immediately switch to the coldest water temp. This can be a bit damaging but it's longer lasting and still better than scratching - a last resort to get rid of the itch
      - sometimes I use cooling creams like ice gel or an ice pack too
      - some people swear by calamine lotion but it didn't have any effect on me
      - you can try products that have collodial oatmeal which they say help with reducing itchiness
      Flare ups
      - I used Zudaifu (it's a Chinese cream that contains clorhexidine and a cooling effect). It helped get rid of a nasty purple infection on my feet when doctors just kept prescribing the next strongest cortisone that literally burned the top layers of my skin. It's like AUD$7 on ebay).
      - light cortisone cream (now maybe once or twice only in winter if my flare up is very strong). Watch out for using too much cortisone or you could end up with red skin syndrome where you have cortisone addiction.
      Supplements & diet
      - I drink the dissolvable b,c, zinc and 1:1 calcium to magnesium vitamin tablets. This is just to give my body a boost to help heal any damage and deficiencies that come with the body being in stress
      - you can try the eczema detox program by Karen Fischer. I just bought the books and excited to try it. Many people swear by it so will see.
      Hygiene
      - Keep changing the pillowcase and bedsheets, vacuum, etc often to reduce dust mites
      - Humidifiers help keep the dust down on surfaces rather than floating in the air
      Climate
      - I'm sensitive to winter climates where I feel flaky and dry. My skin thrives in the mild tropical climates like Queensland and I'm seriously considering to move there. I'm currently in Melbourne atm so the weather is harsher and keeps changing which isn't good for my skin type.
      Stress & sleep
      - I meditate just before going to sleep by listening to some of those meditation apps to help clear my head and bore me into getting a deep sleep
      - up to 10 - 15 mins of exercise a day. Might not sound like much but since our stress hormones are already compromised you don't want to push too much. If I want to go longer than I'd do a slower paced exercise like yoga or pilates
      - cortisone can keep you awake and cause insomnia if you use it at night so try to use it early in the day if you can
      Get support
Sign up to the eczema association of your country. In Australia you pay a $39 membership fee and they send you loads of information, flyers, updates and free samples so you can try products before paying loads of cash for things that don't work. You can also get connected to dermatologist and counselling for additional support.
Hope you get better. Best of luck!
