  • Hi Everyone! This video is just a quick catch up to tell you about forthcoming content on the channel, but most importantly to give you details of our new landscape/watercolour forum that will go live next week. Co-managed by my friend and fellow painter, Edo Hannema, it will be a place where we can discuss all things landscape and watercolour, away from the commercial bombardment and rough edges of the social media platforms. Although we will moderate the content and discussions (with a light touch,) it is just as much your place as ours, and we hope that it becomes a pleasant and enjoyable community where we can share our hobby, passion and profession.
Those that have already signed up to my blog 'Our Landscape' which is available through my website, www.oliverpyle.com, will be able to access the forum when it is live, and those that wish to sign up (it's free!) can do so through the subscription page on the blog.
We look forward to you joining us.

Yay yay yay for you Oliver!! You are awesome! Thank you so so so very much for ALL that you do! I am 72, (live alone in Colorado) and always said that I couldn’t draw a stick figure much less paint anything! Now my hands shake from an illness (nothing to worry about!) but none the less I have painted MY TREE, IN MY LANDSCAPE, BECAUSE OF YOUR INSTRUCTIONS, AND I ACTUALLY LIKE IT!! At 72 I may never achieve your level of proficiency, but I am ecstatic about the progress that I have made and the joy that painting is bringing to my life! Thank you again and again!! Donna

Everything you've said and have planned is music to my ears. No commercial bombardment. No competition. No aggression. I dropped out the several groups, leagues and guilds in which I was a member because it was so much less about painting and more about noise and nonsense.

So glad you asked me for this forum. Long before facebook I joined an English watercolour forum to learn from other artists. There were also a few moderators/artists that were very generous with their knowledge. One of them was named Loftycolin and Colin was the man you could ask for seascapes and Barges. The other admin was pure for landscapes. Due Facebook the forum was not longer visited regularly and also my friend Colin past away, way to soon. So they closed this forum. I missed it ever since. No competition or likes. Just honest opinions and good answers when you look for a solution to your watercolour problems. I look forward to this a lot! Happy times come again! 😀

I found your videos by chance and very much admire your paintings and like your teaching approach. You've explained that you are an artist first and not a RUclipsr and to me this is an advantage. I was very happy to find your videos and a forum. I re-engaged with watercolor after retirement a few years ago and have improved over time. Your videos have accelerated my progress. I have some advantage from a foundation in art from a great teacher in high school and my talented parents. I spend 45 years as a civil/structural engineering drafter and designer and cartographer; definitely a leg up. I am so glad to see paintings of landscapes with landforms that are geologically correct! It's frustrating to go out with my sketching group and seeing cartoonish trees and landscapes in the work of good friends. I live in New Mexico, so my palette is somewhat brighter than yours. My latest undertaking is drawing and painting our many volcanic features. Well, thanks for hearing me out and I'm looking forward to more tutorials and discussions.

I am glad to hear you have been working on your own paintings. I find the very thought of your new forum with your friend to be very exciting. I just started watercolor about a year ago and recently became so frustrated by trying to learn from an inadequate book and just banging around in RUclips that I decided to start all over again. I signed up a couple of weeks ago for an online course for raw beginners and am already benefiting from a structured and organized approach to learning. I have high hopes for participating in your new forum before too long. Thanks again for your kindness and generosity.

    Good morning
I am one of those French people (not much of a frog eater as far as I am concerned) for whom the English language has always seemed difficult (less, however, than that of Voltaire!). So Google translation is unfortunately essential for me to thank you, follow you and finally approach the use of this medium, watercolor!
Finally, a “teacher” (a leftover from my language studies!) who approaches things with simplicity and tranquility. And then this typically English humor (for that alone: long live “The Great Britain”!).
After studying at the Beaux Arts in Paris and, shame on me, selling my soul to advertising during my career, I am returning to my first love, painting, thanks to you. I have accumulated all the beginner's faults: A hundred tubes, a large number of pots and 1/2 pots, around sixty blocks of paper of all brands and I can no longer count the brushes of all kinds... the total mistake!
So I leave with the 3 primaries and it’s happiness.
However, I hope that the French rugby team will once again defeat their favorite opponents during the next meeting. But that's another story. Thank you.

This is wonderful and exciting news! This might be the push I need to get back into painting. The techniques are the thing I think I am lacking, and it resulted in frustration and lack of joy because the painting would never turn out the way I had planned in my mind. I've tried video tutorials and other paid subscriptions that are popular today, but they are designed to help someone paint like just like the tutor. I need to find out my own style, method, subjects, materials, etc. I am so grateful for artists like yourself who take time to teach outside of their already busy schedule.

I can only apologise for the first time you had to watch them Karen - any subsequent times you'll have to take the blame for!🤣

Sounds like an interesting idea, and I shall be signing up. I’m 60 years old and have just returned to painting after a 40 year hiatus. It has taken me all this time to realise that it’s okay if I can’t paint like Cotman and Turner et al - even they painted the odd dodgy picture. Finally, I have recovered my humbleness and recovered my watercolour mojo.

I just posted a question on your forum and almost instantly received several terrific answers. I should remember that if I am wondering about something, it is likely that others are too. Thanks to your generous forum members, I now have some very viable options to consider. Life is good, isn't it?

That's lovely feedback Penny - thanks for mentioning that. Yes, the forum is becoming a very helpful resource for many and a rather nice community of landscape and watercolour friends.

Similar to Donna, I reconnected with watercolor few months ago after 35 years of pause (I am 65) and I find your videos most informative. They are easy to understand and down to earth. I have a question however. I know you are painting every day and this is why your paint always look soft and smooth in your palette. Is this important? Do you have any suggestions to keep everything moist or it is simply to spray water on the colors before closing the lid? Thanks
