I am a cat person, I am _really_ not a fan of dogs (got bitten badly when I was a child, which stuck with me), but watching him and his dog is fun. Of course it helps that his dog is well trained and quite docile and relaxed. I would even consider sharing a quinzhee with him for a night.
I wanted to say out of the many "outdoor adventure" channels I've seen, yours is by far our favorite. You seem like a genuinely nice guy, which is evidenced partially by the fact you are willing to show your mistakes in your videos. My wife, my daughter and I have been watching a ton of your videos the last few days, and my 3-year old daughter always asks, "where's Monty?" I've taken them both camping a few times (wife had never been before meeting me) and they both love the experience. I wish that we lived in a better area for adventures such as yours. As it is, we thank you for allowing us to experience the awesome trips you go on vicariously. Thanks!
This man had at least 3 BIG failures throughout the entire night with the whole Quinzee falling apart twice and the inflatable matress getting busted because of the fire and he still saw it through the entire night. Props man. Edit: and you even sacrificed yourself to sleep on the ground. Dude you are amazing taking care of Monty.
The best way to make a quinzee is to roll giant snow boulders which are compressing as you roll. Make as many as you need as big as you can get, then put them together and fill the gaps with snow and you're pretty good to go.
My wife wants to start making a children’s book. “The Adventures of Matt and Monty”. First book plot will be about running out of Montreal steak seasoning and having to go searching in the woods for more. Second book still developing but it will involve a turd nugget.

Even the slightest thing going wrong can make me seriously down, and if multiple things happen at once it ruins me for days. But watching you gives me courage and fills me with positivity. The admiration for your positive energy, respect and love for nature and animals is far beyond anything. :)
I can tell Monty didn't sleep enough either... He usually greets you differently in the morning. This time he was like, "are you waking me up... ughhh."

Great video. I've been stuck inside for most of February. Southern Alberta, where I live, set a new 50-year record for coldest month of February. The temperature hourly average was less than -20C for the entire month. We had many nights where it got below -35C. I hike in winter, but that's a little too dangerous for my taste. In those conditions it just takes one incident to find yourself in big trouble. An unexpected storm, spilling your fuel, hurting yourself, getting wet. Things that are normally manageable when it's just around freezing are much harder to deal with when it's extremely cold. I have some great hikes planned for this summer. I can't wait to start posting real hiking videos instead of gear reviews. Cheers.

Your GI Tract is digesting / processing / extracting / absorbing etc........right after a meal..... ie: Working! doing hard graft!...it means the sleep you get straight after a meal might not be good quality sleep, you'll know this if you wake up after 8 hours and you still feel exhausted and/or your body is achy/sore. For those with 9 to 5 lifestyles, try not to eat after 6pm and try to sleep around 10pm, an empty GI Tract receives Maintenance while you sleep. A GI Tract that is working while you try to sleep receives no Maintenance = long term = start seeing signs of Deficiency (auto immune problems). It's never to late to change

Another great and funny video! Just an FYI regarding your dog's allergies. A friend of mine had two large labs and they both had the same issues. After many months they discovered it was the dog food that had corn in it. Their's is not the first time I've heard that. Try to buy him food that has no corn in it at all because that might be what he is allergic to. Good luck and praying you get to the bottom of it.

Matthew, I have to say, you have the patience of a saint! With all the things that went wrong in this video, I would've spent most of the night yelling and cussing up a storm! And that's one hell of a work ethic you have, shoveling all that snow! I get exhausted from shoveling my driveway for more than 30 minutes!

protips from canada on quinzee, we used to really go nuts on tapping the snow in, like walking all over the top with snow shoes and just going ape style with the shovel making sure your sides are going to be strong even when you dig in their structural integrity.
I've never made one, but I thought you were supposed to tamp it all down really well before you start digging into it. My son was in scouts and we learned (in theory anyway) how to make one.

These videos have such a comforting rhythm to them: 1 - Arrive late 2 - Build Shelter / Set up camp 3 - Give Monty a proper thrashing with the sleeping pad 4 - Gather wood / Play fetch with Monty and or Ruger 5 - Prepare / Cook food 6 - Relax 7 - Go to bed. Some people might call that formulaic, I call it comforting and relaxing, and it never gets old. Keep on keeping on man!
Found your vids about 2 weeks ago and binge watched them! I enjoy the videos because you don't hide your mistakes looking for a perfect vid to put out. You make it feel like we are there with you and experiencing the outdoors. Although I love the outdoors, I am not much of a winter camper but more than willing to enjoy it through your experiences. Corn has a lot of Roundup pesticide in it. Not good for health, either human or canine :)

protips from canada on quinzee, we used to really go nuts on tapping the snow in, like walking all over the top with snow shoes and just going ape style with the shovel making sure your sides are going to be strong even when you dig in their structural integrity.
I've never made one, but I thought you were supposed to tamp it all down really well before you start digging into it. My son was in scouts and we learned (in theory anyway) how to make one.

3 - Give Monty a proper thrashing with the sleeping pad
4 - Gather wood / Play fetch with Monty and or Ruger
5 - Prepare / Cook food
6 - Relax
7 - Go to bed.
Some people might call that formulaic, I call it comforting and relaxing, and it never gets old. Keep on keeping on man!

Found your vids about 2 weeks ago and binge watched them! I enjoy the videos because you don't hide your mistakes looking for a perfect vid to put out. You make it feel like we are there with you and experiencing the outdoors. Although I love the outdoors, I am not much of a winter camper but more than willing to enjoy it through your experiences.
