I can't believe you didn't think about snow plows accidentally blocking up your exit! My husband and I were watching and saying to each other- oh no what if he gets stuck or someone blocks out the exit! Glad you seemed to enjoy the experience. Thanks.
The hazard of a plow blocking the exit is valid, but it seems to me the much bigger danger is collapse of the tunnel onto the person. If the exit were just blocked but not collapsed (meaning you're within a cavity in the snow where there's at least some air and your arms and legs are free to move) you'd have a chance to dig your way out. But if the snow collapses on you (which wouldn't require an interfering plow, it could just happen spontaneously while you're digging or later), you'd basically be concreted under, unable to move your arms and/or legs, and with no air. Even if a helpful person was right there and saw it happen, they might not be able to dig you out in time. Not my area of expertise, but I think to safely dig a tunnel (or trench) you need to be continuously installing something to prevent collapse of the roof and sides.
As a Texan who’s only ever had .5 inches of snow it seems truly terrifying to imagine going in there without constantly thinking the snow pile is going to cave in.

My claustrophobia kicks into high gear just watching this but I have to see it through. Happy new year to you Joe and Will and girls and the dogs from the West Coast.
Used to camp like this all the time as a kid when I was hunting. I used pine branches instead of mats but basically the same thing. Its alot easier to make when you have 3 people. And you can build a fire in the center with sleeping cubbies in the sides. It melts a layer of snow that turns into ice and adds a bit of insulation. Super fun highly recommended.
Looks like fun Joe! Kids be careful if you try this. I remember back when I was young in my area a kid made a snow cave and it collapsed on him. He didn't survive.
@@AghoraNath They usually don't collapse, but you don't want to be inside one If it does. I live up north where we get plenty of snow. We did everything when we were kids.

I'm disappointed that this was videoed not at the Walmart, but next to a parking lot 1.2 miles [edit: kilometers, not miles] from the Walmart. I guess this is the reason for the unusually long stretch without a new video.

Joe has been exposed. All this time we thought he was in the wild surviving off the land and he has been camping out in Wal-Mart parking lots! Haha. Love the idea and all the different content you provide.
he has been exposed. i dont understand why he felt the need to lie about being in a walmart parking lot. im not saying he didnt sleep in the snow pile but it was next to a hotel and not at the wm
@@bcsushi91 it’s unfortunate. I really enjoyed his stuff. I just don’t get the motivation for the lie. It’s not like he promised it so he had to pretend. I mean he could’ve even said in the video that there wasn’t a good enough pile at WM so he found a spot in another lot. Just makes you wonder what other videos he’s fabricated.
Joe's always wanted to be like Bear Grylls...a liar. He's now achieved that status. Saying he's in the WM parking lot when he's at the Quattro Hotel 1.4km down the road.
I may be a little late to the party but You should rename this video. It’s misleading/false advertising. Surprised it hasn’t been done yet. That’s not the Walmart parking lot. A simple google earth search puts you down the road by the hotel. You can tell at the 17:01 mark. The hotel is clearly there along with the building on the back side of the snow mound.

This seems incredibly dangerous. Nobody there in case of cave in. No control over what others might do to the pile. I know you survived because the video is posted, but this is frightening.

Joe... I've been following you for like a decade, but that call and the rant after wasn't necessary. Just you do you, man. We love you for that. Just be glad you've encouraged others to follow the path, and that they are keeping this stuff alive.
The amount of balls this takes it immensely understated. Those things can collapse or if it starts snowing during the night while you're tucked away sleeping, the snow plows can bury you alive while shoving fresh snow on the pile etc.... Mad props Joe.
Calling you out Joe, the walmart at 446 Great northern road (you can see the address in your video) and the Quattro Hotel (identifiable by the purple lights and building) are 1.28K apart (not side by side, nice photoshop making them look side by side) you are clearly digging your tunnel in the back of the hotel & not walmart a quick google street view behind the hotel proves this, Hopefully the hotel room you slept after all the filming in the snow. had a jacuzzi to warm up in.
When I start my career as the phantom walmart snowman constructor, I'm definitely going to let people know you were my inspiration. On the down low, you can't be a phantom and famous at the same time. :)

This is one of the most dangerous things I've ever seen someone do on RUclips. Terrifying, you could get crushed to death if they came in to plow the snow. Possibly in your sleep. This is literally the stupidest and most dangerous thing I have ever seen someone promote on RUclips other than perhaps people who sneak into buildings to dangerously climb them or something, but they at least know what they are doing. You should have mentioned something about how extremely dangerous it was, this video should not be sponsored or monetized either.
Joe, my friend, if you're going to properly "hunker down" and go camping like Steve, you got to remember to have a "Step two" as well, along the way. Like mentioned several times in the comments I Would definitely love to see the two of you do an episode or two or three..together!! Bring Tripper.. if Steve is ok with that!!
Give credit where credits due 💯 I’ve always been an outdoors person, camping, hunting etc.. but I can honestly say YOU are the sole reason I started a RUclips channel🙏 I work a lot so don’t have lots of extra time to make videos unfortunately, but every chance I get I make a video. Been with you since u first started up Joe after your Alone show, lol I was devastated when u lost your ferro rod 🤦🏻♂️ no doubt in my mind you’d of won, but you took that loss and look at you now buddy🙏🙏🙏 God Bless.
I used to build snow forts like this when I was a kid in Ottawa, but I didn't overnight in them! Aren't you guys afraid of getting buried in your snow cave if the snow plow comes along?
My mother always told us if we were gonna do something like this we should have an air horn with a trap release on a string leading in… so if we got buried we could pull on it.
So, the word is that you did not stay in that snow cave, but rather checked into a hotel for the night. Several other survival RUclipsrs have the proof. Perhaps that is why you didn't have much night footage.
He is a fake I am 2 hours from where he dug his hole and my nieces live there and know for sure he did not stay in a Walmart parking lot. Is was a hotel parking lot down the road. Most likely he didn't even spend the night in his hole. He cropped the hotel and Walmart together, when they are over a half mile from each other.
Man this seems so dangerous… No way I would be able to sleep in that igloo as it drip melted on my face all night, just imagining I saw the walls move before the impending doom of burial alive! Every car that drove by I’d imagine was a huge earth mover with a fork coming to shift the pile (and me!). Not happening, I’ll be in the truck! ;)
I like the idea, but in reality it was dangerous, that ice is heavy, look how much work it took to dig that hole. Not making it out in a collapse of 1000lbs on top of you.
@@FriarPop Also, plowed snow is not very clean (salt, oil, dirt). I like the idea of stealth camping but I would have used the snow bank as a screen to sleep outside and out of view.
@@FriarPop no it’s not clearly u guys have never felt a plow pile that’s weeks old it’s solid ice u could ramp a truck on it but even with a plow u couldn’t hit joe of u wanted too trick would stop or flip on top first and we had small fired in igloo we built as kids in -5 it’s not melting and collapsing on you not dangerous at all why do u think some cultures live in igloos

The hotel he stayed in after digging a hole and pretending he was going to sleep in the snow pile. lol
Aren't you worried about a plow just smashing into that bank and locking you under snow? I used to love playing in and around those piles but I'd be terrified of sleeping in one. Great upload!
That was my first thought also!
He went to the backside. I was thinking I would have parked the truck in front of my spot just to be safe. But those plows would wake you up, they aren't exactly electric...
Those piles are solid ice and huge, the plow wouldnt do anything to the mound at all, especially on the backside
It’s not without its risk, but that risk can be managed with a little research into when the next time the might be plowing… check the forecast for snow and check the parking lot for snow waiting to be plowed …. That being said
Kids don’t try this at home
I was thinking that same thing.
I’d be scared shitless getting buried underneath tonne’s of snow. No thank you sir, glad you lived to tell the story
Can’t lie I though the same thing

Steve isn't a phony , so it wouldn't work well with a fraud like joe. he won't even take this video down and apologize for lying to his subscribers. He bashes other RUclipsrs and it turns out he is the loser. His channel will keep losing viewership once people see the evidence of his fraud.
Something is off with this video.
You walked through trees. This was not in a parking lot.
I've never seen a multiple story walmart with purple lights.

That multi-story building is a hotel not wal-mart.

Anyone who has grown up in the Northland has seen snow piles in the parking lots & dreamed of tunneling into them. That was fun to watch your enthusiasm & I enjoyed listening to your conversation with someone who had given you the idea - while giving them credit (Steve). Have a Happy New Year Joe and I look forward to hearing about your upcoming surprise & reveal!
Definitely need a Steve and Joe collab! You two are the only ones I watch regularly in the camping genre of videos here on RUclips.
I love that I'm seeing so many people shout out Steve! He is a great guy and I love his videos. This was so much fun to see you do a stealth camp
Man, so great to witness this interaction between you two. Props for "giving credit where credit is due". I know you made his day. ❤️
Joe doesn’t deserve any credit, he did not stay in the Walmart parking lot at all. He went to a hotel just a mile down the road
@@willjenner9420 honestly, I couldn't care less. My comment was on the humanity and the phone call. Your comment is just useless. I see you have absolutely 0 content on your channel so as I see it, even a video of the so called hotel room woulda been more than I can see you've done. Put the keyboard down and find something you enjoy in life instead of TRYING to bring others down. Sad man. And we CAN go back and forth....ya know, EVERY comment makes this video do better....you do know that, right? As far as that goes, I'd LOVE for you to go give me a negative comment on all my videos. Maybe even click the unlike button on all of them.
This is the craziest urban camping thing I've ever seen. Totally out of my league. I'd feel a lot safer in the back country with bears and wild life than in the Walmart parking lot. Hats off to you
You and Steve need to do a sketchy stealth camp together but each of you build your own camp to see how each would be different. Great video keep of the good work
How about one video of each other "genres". One video of bushcraft and one video of stealth camping. Either with own gears or one of them borrows etc.

I’ve heard stories of kids climbing into snow piles like this and being crushed by snow plows or the piles collapsing 😬 be careful friends. Cool video though
i know someone who’s relative died like that
I have no experience with snow but this looks like a death trap to me, like climbing into a unsupported pit
We use to drive over them as kids I couldn't imagine staying in there
Yeah man this is triggering my anxiety in a huge way. Fyck, who would sleep in that little death trap?

" Do you have an excuse ready", pause, " there is no excuse for this." Love this idea, especially calling Steve who I watch all the time. Thanks, Joe.
I was practicing making a traditional snow shelter for an upcoming winter camping trip.
“Straight up facts!”
Kudos Joe. I started watching you and Shug around the same time, you two are the forefathers of these types of video in my opinion. Cheers for 2022.
Joe, I'm always been a fan of yours. I watched countless of your videos and I am blown away that you give where the credit is due. I am also a big fan of Steve Wallis. You guys needs to make an awesome video together. Canadians rocks. From a a subscriber here in America. God bless to both of you!
I can't believe you didn't think about snow plows accidentally blocking up your exit! My husband and I were watching and saying to each other- oh no what if he gets stuck or someone blocks out the exit! Glad you seemed to enjoy the experience. Thanks.
I was thinking of this too!
I was also worried the pile would collapse at night !! I wonder why Joe even risked it ?
No not on New Years
i believe that's why he chose the side of the hill that wasn't directly off the parking lot.
Hey, can all you guys come together avengers style with a winter camping trip? Like you, Steve, Mav, and outdoor boys?
Mad respect to both you and Steve. Both of you are absolute legends
As a Texan who’s only ever had .5 inches of snow it seems truly terrifying to imagine going in there without constantly thinking the snow pile is going to cave in.
Some months I would love to be down there with you and enjoying the warmth.
Imagine waking up to the snow plow closing you in
I can imagine your imagining. It's not terrifying when you are used to it. It's like learning when it's safe to walk on ice.
As a Canadian who has seen way too much snow, there is no way I would do that. He is a brave fella.
snow is actually suprisingly strong once compressed.
Loved this vid! Funny to see you and Steve on the phone, it’s like the ultimate bushcraft crossover

Absolute gold! Hommage to the king of stealth, Steve Wallis.
Would be great to see you take him out on a canoe trip.
I've been subbed to Steve since 20k. I absolutely love seeing all the friends and love he's been getting since he's started growing bigger.

I'm disappointed that this was videoed not at the Walmart, but next to a parking lot 1.2 miles [edit: kilometers, not miles] from the Walmart. I guess this is the reason for the unusually long stretch without a new video.
