    Glengoyne 18 is a boring whisky. I, too, and about done with 43% and below in general but Mac 18 would still make my top 10.
    Bunna 18 isn’t what it used to be but still a good whisky for the price.
    It’s a shame Laphroaig discontinued the 18.
    You do a nice job with these lists.

    Nice one, six. The Springbank 18 and Glendronach 18, though sensational, are just too expensive. Overall (BFB, taste, independent, no color, NCF, presentation), the Arran 18 knocks em all out of the park.

    You forgot to say "except Ontario". Not one single bottle of this top 10 is available in Canada's largest province!!! No other place on earth can say that, Unbelievable...eh. Stopped in at a local LCBO yesterday just for wine and perused the whisky section, practically nothing! never seen anything like it, I still say it's only a matter of time before whisky is outlawed in Ontario. Cheers Rob, enjoy your "rare" whisky's.

      I stopped searching the LCBO website for inventory a long time ago.Their selection has never been this bad. I was surprised to hear that it is non chill-filtered though as it’s a diageo product. Do you get cloudiness from your bottle? Either way, it’s a fantastic whisky.

    • @WhiskyInThe6
      @WhiskyInThe6  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words my friend. I could be wrong about the chill filtration I just find it interesting that they keep the abv at the lowest abv a non chill filtered product can be to ensure the chemical reaction to cold doesn’t allow it to get cloudy. Honestly guest my guess though.

    There are NO Springbank (Hazelburn & Longrow) spirits are sold in my location. This is tragic, in that I think they have the flavor profile I'm looking for, with "a hint of peat". I think 18 year old Scotch may be out of my price range. I recently invested in a bottle of Lagavulin 16 and it qualifies as my cabinet elder; it cost me a $100 US. Eighteens go up from there. The Arran 18 sells for over $152 locally (Oregon, PNW). My current favorite Scotch is Auchentoshan Threewood. I suspect I'm a mark for Aberlour A'Bundh, but it, too teeters on the edge of my financial willingness. I'm presently enjoying a dram of Glen Scotia 15...toasted marshmallows and caramel. I await the arrival of my special order Benromach 10, hoping it will provide the lilting hint of peat in a lightly sherried whisky.

    Surprised Glengoyne 18 didn’t make the list, I see your point that it’s not an integrity bottle but imo it’s better than half of the list if we take the quality into account, recently quality of single malt alone can be easily overlooked based on integrity bottling. How long does it take for a bottle of Scotch whisky to open up after the cork is poppet ? This has become a very interesting topic of exploration for me as some whiskies seem to open up to a beautiful profile in just 2 months and yet others seem almost pour down the drain in the first year and then after two years of being open and half bottle its a total transformation. This seems totally illogical but I have been experiencing this multiple times and cannot find ant video presentations on the subject. Can you shed any light on this phenomena and or produce a video presentation on this hard to find subject?....Thank you for all your great presentations thus far....Slainte!

    Hooray for Arran!! :) The GlenAllachie is a strange one... I almost never hear of anyone reviewing the 18, or saying much about it. From few reports, it's more bourbon influenced than the rest of the range. As each batch of the rest of the range has appeared to get better and better, no doubt that will as well! The cat is out of the bag with GA, too, as the new 10CS batch has flown off shelves, and other releases are starting to dry up... I think recent (bad) moves from Glendronach have made a lot of people move on and follow Billy Walker over to GlenAllachie, and I fear we may now start seeing many bottles from their range harder and harder to get.

    Your review was very timely for me. When you said you’ve tried an 18-yo Arran that you didn’t like, was it the old bottling? I’m asking coz a local online store has the OB 18-yo bundled with AnCnoc 18 and Hedonism for USD145/CAD176.

Still following the Glendronach saga as I've experienced a few different tastes with the 2019 and earlier and would love for someone (lol) to compare to the 2020, which of course is actually 18. Whisky is cool and whatever. The history, the branding, the aesthetic. But lets be honest here...besides a few outliers with a REAL flavor profile...most products are just barley swill aged in dingy oak barrels that give off the same flavor. The best bottles are horded for speculation and a market has developed. But the product is not refined like Cognac etc. Its a second rate spirit tbh.
