    Hi Geoff, as you probably know, here in Germany, it is mandatory to disclose on the label if E150a is used. And as a big fan of Tobermory, Bunna and Deanston, I have never seen such a statement on any whisky of the Burn Stewart distilleries. So I am almost 100% sure that Burn Stewart never artificially colors their whiskies.

      On the website its says "Like all the whiskies produced at Tobermory Distillery, this is non-chillfiltered and natural colour. " so I think you're right

    I went through 2 bottles of regular 18 last couple of years. Now I prefer more bourbon maturation in my whiskies, so I recently picked up 19 yo Ledaig 1997 Rest & Be Thankful. It's like the regular 10, but on steroids. Amazing stuff.

    Hi Geff, love your content! Quick question, do you use any argon gas to help your longer term / expensive whiskies last longer? I've heard a lot of people rave about this stuff and I have heard heaps of people say it can stop a whisky from going "flat" but I do wonder whether it can help more peaty whiskies maintain their punch in the medium-long term.
    Keep up the good work!

    Geoff as you know I am a Mull fan boy. This is a great dram for all the reasons you stated as pointed out by some others I think 100% no colour.
    This year no 18 yr for me I'm going with the Ledaig Triple wood 53.8% n/c , ncf. Made in honour of Gordon Buchanan ( mull wild life and the Sea Eagles especially ), Made for the Mull and Iona community trust, will open this at Christmas 2024 🙂

    Bit of a Ledaig fan boy so big caveat there. I don't score but it is my best bang for buck mature peated malt. (I do set limits on spending for current bottlings so I missed the PX as it was just on the limit at the time of release and I havered too long.) The 18 is my winter sipper of choice - permashelf.

    Still can’t find the Ledaig 18 in the states. Oddly, I happened upon a $185 Ledaig 1996 (19yr, Spanish olorosso cask). I was surprised by how aggressive that tasted. I was expecting a more integrated and gentler peat presentation. With only 1 session, I’m not settled on my feelings but so far, it’s very good, but probably not $185 good. (Gave it a 3.9/5; or about 87/88 from 100)
    It came in a fancy wooden box, my first; so that helped a little since I’ve always wanted a fancy wooden box whisky.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  5 месяцев назад +1

      For value of course the 10. Loads of flavour at a very fair price. Between the two 18s I'd opt for the current version, as I enjoy it as much as the old batch versions. The Rioja is a great value buy as well! 🥃

    There are some hopeless suggestions for Bond. I have a fantastic idea. Obviously has to be a whisky aficionado, with suave air, capable of awful puns and for the sake of inclusivity needs to be from a foreign (ie not British) country. You therefore qualify Geoff, you should audition!

    Nothing to add Goeff, its Gr8 review of Gr8 whisky. Its fantastic stuff, every time have it in a glass there are magic moments. P.S. have you heard or tried Siren Bay? Its misterious island single malt, 18yo MoM have it on sale from time to time for £54.99 and some ppl say its Ledaig. I bought it and made H2H. Very similar in profile but imho Ledaig is more round and slighty fresher like gentle citrusy notes but this is good stuff worth try and for 55 pounds is a banger. Cheers 😁🥂🥂🥂🙋‍♂️

    Being a whisky drinker living in Norway, this one is a prime example that one has to beware of the pricing. It costs 1690 NOK here, which roughly equals 156 USD or 124 GBP. It doesn't matter how brilliant the whisky is, I don't want to teach the importers that highway robbery is OK. Otherwise I'd definitely be interested in this one! A shame nobody imports the 10 YO.

    I have to ask. Is Talisker 18 worth buying before it rockets out of reach?
    I’ve never had it and don’t want to miss out forever. That said how does it compare score wise to Ledaig 18? I know they’re different but the price difference is very significant.
    That said, if you had to choose between Talisker 18 and Tamdhu 18 what would you pick? Never had either. If I buy both it’ll be @$400 . So I’ll probably buy one and round out my purchase with Ledaig 18 at $85

      No, this is a more recent release, from 2022. I think the batches in the boxes were stopped a few years prior. 🥃

    This is very good. However I would really like to taste the 16 year old bourbon casks before they get put into sherry butts for two more years. Would happily pay the same price for a Ledaig 16 full bourbon cask maturation at 50%. Cheers

      Not sure as it's not stated, but I believe Ledaig recently made the move to stop colouring all of their whiskies. Hopefully that will be relayed on the packaging. 🥃

      @@Gwhisky I belive they do not colour their whisky, however they do not state it on a label so You are 100% right assuming it is with carmel added. Hope every reviewer will do this and it will push distillery to actually put a statement on a label.

    Ledaig no longer color their whiskies but judging by the color of this one, it's one of the slightly older, colored bottles. Mine is lighter and a newer bottle.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah I think they did add colour up until a few years ago, although I could be wrong. It's been put on the website in recent years. Now if they'd just put it on the labels... 🥃

    i've noticed the scores on a few different channels like yours, Ralfy, and scotch test dummies, Never give a perfect score. Is a perfect whisky not possible? What would a whisky have to do reaching the highest of marks? It is like if a teacher said, if you get every question correct, you'll get a B+ and if you do extra credit A-. New request, review something you would give a mid 90s score to. If Scottie brought you some Aldebaran, you'd probably complain it wasnt from ten forward and was replicated.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  5 месяцев назад +1

      It's happened many times over the years that I've tasted something that I felt was as close to perfect as whisky can be. Then maybe my tastes changed over time, or maybe the bottle I thought was the "best thing ever" was surpassed by an something else. I like the idea of never having a perfect score. It leaves some wiggle room. 🥃

    Ultimately why i probably wont buy this bottle, (and it may sound shallow) is the bottle design is boring.
    The opposite is true of lag16, which is a timeless bottle design that i love to look at while enjoying a dram of lag16.
    🤷‍♂️for me it sells it in the end. Also, Im a 90's kid and goldeneye is the best James bond movie and Pierce Brosnan is the best James Bond.
