Just got a Knockandoo 18 for 38 euros at my local supermarket... Thought it was probably going to be mid, but worth picking up at that price (Cheaper than Jura 10 or Glenlivet 15/Jura 10/Glenfarcas 12). You got me excited seeing as you rated it so highly! My first 18 year old dram too!
Been wanting to try the Deanston 18 for a long time but the cheapest I have ever seen it is $160 which is way above my budget. Thanks as I enjoyed this!
I saw it on Total Wine’s website for that price, adding sales tax will push it upwards of $170. Price gouging, wag of the finger to Total Wine! Buying it from some internet whisky stores on the other side of the pond will cost at least $50 less even with a hefty shipping fee included.
Just discovered your video here on the Deanston 18 and had no choice but to order a bottle right now..............Thanks for creating this tasting video..........Slainte!
$100? For an 18 year old Scotch? You got my interest. Yes, you can call that a 'budget' whisky; that's why I'm here. Locally, most 18 year olds are well beyond the $100 mark. Glenlivet 18 is not available in state, all we have is 14 and 15. Glenfiddich has 12 through 30 stocked in-state, but none of the age statements are 18 year. Glenfiddich 15 Solera is one of my favorites. No Knockando, at all, available in state. Loch Lomond is readily available and meets the specs. We have Deanston only in the non-age statement Virgin Oak version. Hey...One out of five ain't bad. Well, Deanston is on my list. I may have to go shopping out of state to find a wider offering than just their Virgin Oak. Another line that interests me is Old Pulteney. Underrated.
There is always room for one more in your blind tasting series. Well done MA and Deanston 18 at a #1 spot in your list. As a side note, the prices in NA are close to double what you have noted after conversion for some of these 18 year olds.
Are you sure about Knockando 18. It is both chill filtered and colored. At least according to most sources on the web. Loch Lomond 18 is colored but not chill filtered
If that's right then I stand corrected. I checked a few websites where it claimed it was not chill filtered. May I get a link if you don't mind please.
Hi MA, very enjoyable series this 👍. Not surprised Deanston got first place. The re- branded Glenlivet is only 40% in Germany, really liked the earlier versions at 43%. Wonder what’s coming nexti in this mini series ? Slàinte.
@@MaltActivist when you asked after your first video I thought a blind tasting of peated 10 yr olds would be great, preferably all bourbon matured, just to make it a little harder 😏👍🥃
Great review ! But the hugh teaching is Knockando at the second place ! Knockando 18 is a most underated of them. Nobody talk about it and it"s a very good whisky.
You got everything I need..... Almost. I appreciate your extremely democratic and egalitarian choices. However, the Glilivet 18 is $155 and and Glenfiddich is $140. So the same price as Highland Park and Glenmorangie and other 18. Jura and Tomatin are about $100. Still sticking with my 2 picks that are readily available, the LL and Tomatin. I wish the big guys were under $100 but we are still going to be paying big money for that age statement. That Deanston would be up there close to $200.
Deanston 18 is around $170 here in Australia 😟 the 12 is around the $90- $100 but both are great drams👍 I might get the 18 when I hit the UK for Christmas. £67 that's unbelievable 😁
@@MaltActivist i think he did an 18 year idk. But he literally fauns over deaston. Its like springbank, Arran, ect. The modern versions. If the deaston 12 and 15 are amazing. You just know the 18 is. Just like arran. For now. Who knows in the future.
Gotta laugh at calling these 'budget'. I bet Diagio love you. I can see their marketing team now, 'We don't want to be budget, let us charge £300 for a 12 year old''. There are NO budget 18 year old single malts in your list, -are there any?-. Must be one of those mugs that pays through their arse for medicocre Ardbeg........oh yeah...one of them. Keep collecting m8 and leave those poor mans 18s to us that don't shill for the distilleries.
It's all good my brother. I understand where you're coming from. I've realized whiskies in different parts of the world are priced differently. I wish I was a distillery shill though. I'd make so much money. But I don't. My utmost respect to you, brother. Peace.
again, great review!! Deanston 18 is one of my long-term favorites. it costs around 70 us dollars in Taiwan.
Oh wow! That's a pretty decent price.

$160 is quite pricy!!

Fair point about the Old Pulteney. Very good and very underrated.
Maybe you could try Glen Moray 18 next time
Let me find one and revert!

I am being made aware of that!
Excellent....loved these series'
Thank you Kapil!
Agreed!
that Glenlivet 18 is about $170 where im at in the US. i was a fan at $120, but now its well out of its weight class at the new price
That's crazy dude

Is that modern Glenlivet 18 bottled at 43%? You might want to double check that?
hang on! Lemme double check that. I could have made a mistake.
The old bottle was 43% ABV. That new bottle of Glenlivet is 40%
@@fernandoroque1547 Yes, that's why I asked. The 43% was delicious stuff✌️
A really wonderful blind comparison video. Please bring on more blind comparison shows.
Thank you Cliff. Will do.
The Glenlivet 18 bottle you showed is the new version which is only 40% (the old one was 43%].
Noted!
The Glenlivet 18 batch reserve is 40%. Do you live in the USA?

oh wow ! That's pretty high. I pulled my prices from UK online retailers. Master of Malt, The Whisky Exchange, etc
Glenlivet 18 is like $150 in my part of USA. I enjoyed it when it was $130 about 2 years ago.

Great idea, I wish I had thought of it! 🤔😳😉

Where in the UK are you getting Glenlivet 18 at £67 retail? More like £80-100

Apparently North America & Canada are super high priced compared to the UK (which is where I get my prices).
I knew the result before the video. Bc of ralfy. Deaston knows what they are doing. Integrity matters
I should see that Ralfy video. And yes, integrity matters - and it shows.
