- There are two potential issues when making creamy coleslaw from scratch. One is cutting cabbage for coleslaw and the other is a watery coleslaw. Today I'm going to show you how to cut cabbage for coleslaw using a knife and how to prevent watery coleslaw. The perfect side dish for all your BBQ needs this summer.

How long is this claw sauce good in the fridge. All the ingredients are fridged separate so together they’re fine?!😅
The thing I love the most about your videos is you immediately show how it's done in a quick way before going into detail about what you used, it's really helpful for those of us who already do a lot of non-pro cooking and can watch that first part, and immediately know if that's what we want or how to replicate it.
Exactly!! And my recipes aren't what I want you to take away. I want you to take away the little tips and techniques i've learned along to way to make things to my taste. Hopefully it translates so that you can see what I do to make it taste the way I like so that you can figure out how to make it taste how you like!
Spot on!! Thanks for not messing with the American slaw dressing!! Apple cider vinegar and celery seed is a must.
I crush celery seeds in my hand to get more flavor in every dish I make!
Ayyy @ThatGuyCanCook my dude fancy seeing you here ahaha I'm subbed to you aha
I make slaw frequently (mostly with just red cabbage, though) and I think it benefits tremendously from a touch of shallot and Italian parsley.
A nice twist is replacing carrots with mango, vinegar with lime juice and adding cilantro and fresh hot chili peppers - makes a great salad.
Thanks for the recipe! Tried it also with some grated apple in it - delicious! All the best from Germany mate ✌️
That’s perfect! I’d hope people see these as the base recipe and a jumping off point for additions like that! ✊🏼
Thanks for the apple suggestion, seems good.
I salt and drain like you did and also squeeze the veggies in paper towels to get more moisture out. Like the combination of green and red. Yummy.
Wow, just discovered your channel, and it is now my favorite on RUclips. I have loved food my whole life, and have gotten serious about cooking in the last three years. Your videos are more informative and enjoyable to watch than any of the cooking shows I've seen.
You Bad😂😂😂😎😎
Wow! I can’t wait to make this! Love how your recipes are fun to watch and don’t seem intimidating to make. I appreciate that as a novice!
AWESOME LOOKING COLESLAW MY FRIEND. GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER.!!!!!
you're going to have a million subs in no time. calling it now
Thank you Tom!!
My husband and I have made this many times. Our favorite is throwing it on a Nashville Chicken sandwich. Definitely recommend!!
Nothing for Nothing. I take your instruction more seriously then most on RUclips. Much respect.
You are an inspiration... I just made a whole dinner table off of your recipes.. am in love and so does who ever ate what I made
That’s the best coleslaw recipe, and method on RUclips bar none.
Brilliantly chef, you made it look easy you’re that good.
Thanks for sharing….
Thanks for sharing ! I made it a day earlier and eat with grilled chop, it's heaven.
I really love this recipe. Celery seed is a great addition. For sweetness I sometimes use raisins or finely sliced apple or both. The honey is good too.
The Hellman’s in the jar is thicker than in the squeeze bottle. Also mustard powder adds a nice bite but no moisture.
Recipe looks great !
I grow my own green and red cabbages organically. They have a peppery flavor when they're just picked. I make mine just as you do, but I'm too clumsy to slice like you. You have amazing skills. I love that you use mustard, which is the right way to do it. I take half of it and add raisins and dried cranberries, so one bowl is savory and one sweet. Also, the German word for cabbage is "kohl." Obviously it was "kohlslaw" at one point, probably until after the war.
Fantastic coleslaw recipe. Looks so delicious yummy
Made this today. Homegrown green, red cabbage and carrots. Best ever. Thanks.
This recipe is my FAVORITE ever for red cabbage salad
I made it and MAAAAN DID IT TASTE GOOD !! thank youuuuu infinitely ♥️🙏
Yaaasss!
Salting/draining - first time I learned a new cooking technique in a while. Nice! Just like doing hash browns.
tip: to get the absolute finest cut on cabbage, they use a commercial ice crusher (the kind at hawaiian shaved ice)........it's a six or seven inch diameter tube that you stuff ice or cabbage down with a rotating razor blade inside the housing.......used for snow kones and shaved ice........it makes the most amazing cut cabbage for slaw......creamiest I've ever had.
The best coleslaw recipes I've seen
Dude your channel is my best find on RUclips so far in 2019 👍
Same here and subbed 👍👍
I’m going to make this on New Year’s Eve for pulled pork sandwiches on New Year’s Day. I watched this on my TV, and found the music distracting, though. That coleslaw looks amazing! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
So happy for a 2 video week!!! Love the Coleslaw ideas and cant wait for another Rib recipe. The last one took me a couple of tries before I got it but damn they were good! Have a Great weekend and hope to see you Tuesday my Friend! 👏😃
You deserve a lot more views man! Keep at it, I’m sure they will come with time. I’m a new viewer to your videos and they are better than most other cooking channels, please keep them up.

Yet another great video. Thanks, your recipes make me look like a master cook here at home
Thank you I love this, I’m making this recipe for Christmas Day.
Cheers every one from down down Australia 🇦🇺
I made this slaw. OMG! Boy was it good. I was a little frigid about the mustard (used English mustard not the fancy one you did here) but I needn't have been, worked out so delicious🤤. Love your artistic presentation too. All the way from London, England.✌️
Oh the red cabbage is a MUST!!!
Your issue @3:00 with being too liquidy is the Hellman's squeeze bottle, less thick than container and definitely with restaurant mayo
Brother Steve ! Great recipe and technique! Too many people rely on store bought slaw ! Making your own is always better ! Excellent job! I know another sauce you could use on those ribs !
Daddy Dutch BBQ thank you my dude!!
Your curly Q hair thing is all I can see... can’t believe I’m saying this, but I miss the indoor beanie... lol! Good stuff as always! Love ya brother!

Awesome Job Steve, love the colours!!!!! Im going to try this on the weekend. I'm doing ribs, pulled pork and brisket and have been looking for a less runny recipe. Keep them coming.

"Take me back to Piauí"
Wow! Are you aware that this is a Brazilian song and Piauí is a Brazilian state?
I'm going to buy the regular cabbage. The red one is on the fridge.
Nice recipe
Mustard in sauces is amazing!
I like way of explaining things ❤️
Thanks that was awsome👌
Yummy 🤪coleslaw I.have always wanting to make this my self just had no time for myself slways working , now retired .
Will have lots of time on hand. love cooking.so thanks handsome really appreciated you giving us your precious time.😘 ❤ 👍
A great video Steve! like all kinds of coleslaw, my personal specialty is a sweet and sour slaw (pickled) with no mayo, it's great for long days on the picnic table without going bad. I sold it in my stand all last summer. I might have to do a video but I've got a couple ideas for other summer salad recipes coming up. The problem I've got is so many ideas and not enough time to get them all done.
I’ve been using this recipe for all my bbq sandwiches lately it’s great. I’ve recently started adding some red onion and radish for a bit of a bite
Radish, thanks for reminding me, I love radish.😉
dude, I like your style! awesome pasta dones and all the stuff. THANKS!
how have i only just found this channel?! nd how are there only 36k other subs??? these videos are so good

Really great channel! I hope you get the subscribers you deserve, by mean, thousands of more!
Love the colors of this coleslaw!
I just made this and it's delicious! Thanks!
Wonderful recipe. The whole family liked it.
Jicama is a good addition too!
thanks for this recipe, looks really nice for summer dinner with a beer.
Thank you. Love this.
Thank u for the background music.
😎
Hanafi Ishak hahaha same here
Great tips especially draining all the water!
Pineapple juice goes well with coleslaw
The beat on the video is DOPE
Always enjoy your videos. Keep up the Great work
I fucking love these "lights out, get on the table, take a picture" shots at the end
You really know what you're doing - Celery seed, honey instead of sugar and thinly sliced cabbage. It never occurred to me to drain the cabbage. Thanks!
you're my "go to" now.
Your channel is pure class. You deserve much more followers. Keep it up man! Love from Sweden.
The trick is not to add extra salt , (there is enough salt in the mayo/mustard ) too much salt draw's out water from the vegatables , remember you can add salt at the table
I never did understand salting the cabbage. But I like my slaw REALLY REALLY crunchy.
Salting draws excess moisture out of the cells
@@EliezerRedlich I know the science behind it, I just don't understand the motive. Going back to my original comment, I like my slaw REALLY REALLY crunchy. It also doesn't last long enough to go soggy at all, so the excess moisture is a moot point in my kitchen. I've been known to go through 4 heads of cabbage a week because I like slaw that much.
I would def add some poppy seeds to this coleslaw 🤗
Thanks for sharing 👊
I was just going back and forth literally and whether I should add honey or not to my Cole Slaw to try to make it have that sweetness like KFC does.
Wow! F’ing fantastic recipe.
Do the same with a big green cabbage alone. (Danish ballhead.) But no celery salt . Add one and a third cups each golden raisins and cashews salted toasted. Add McCormick hot madras curry powder or hot yellow curry powder; about one Tablespoon or to taste. I use light brown Dominos sugar instead of the honey on this. (I prefer apple cider vinegar always for Cole slaw & Dukes mayonnaise. It's just tastier.) The basic idea came from Alton Brown I think?.
Very nice channel, keep it up! Great editing too.
Also i would add raisins to this coleslaw but that is optional ;-)
Awesome. I was looking for an easy coleslaw recipe for Memorial Day. Thx
Can confirm it is fire i didnt have celery seeds tho
Reminds me of the street corn
Beautiful vegetables in this video
I learn a lot from you bro thank You
Very nice, thanx a lot
You’re on a roll love all these vids!
I really like how you adjusted the amounts of the ingredients as you went on by adding a little more mayo and honey to go by feel and taste. From my own cooking experience, that took the longest for me to understand was that you don't just go exactly by recipe amounts. You need to go by feel and taste and don't be afraid to adjust if you think it needs it. So it was nice to see you do it in the video because it gives us watching confidence to do it ourselves when we cook.
Thank you!! I’m trying something different in this show which is trying to teach how to cook with your senses and feel and passion rather than just reading a recipe. I’ve long maintained recipes are inherently flawed. So relying on them is a losing battle. I appreciate you noticing that. It is quite intentional.
@@NOTANOTHERCOOKINGSHOW Yup, the more I get into cooking, the more I realize that about recipes haha it's refreshing to see you making content on here with that in mind.
David Milner thanks dude!! I really care about makes sure more people are confident in the kitchen. Of course I want it to make money, but I hope people can see that I’m driven by the idea that I might be able to get through to people where others might struggle.
Cooking how I like it
Also banging with creme fresh instead of. Mayo
Now that is some slaw!
i like to use the mandolin for that
Hi, How much mayo for the other quantities for vinegar, honey and dijon as shown in the video?
Finally quintessential coleslaw.
Steve, Why not add salt to the shredded cabbage and carrots to aid in pulling out more liquid while straining?
Hey Steve home run on that Coleslaw . Thanks for sharing.
Making this slaw this weekend to go with my beef ribs and pulled pork I'll be smoking!
Very well explained
I'm going to binge watch this channel now aren't I
