the best thing to read emotions is turn off the voice and watch the eyes. The eyes are expressive in this game. His smile doesn't reach the eyes, the laughter isn't heartful. His eyes are tense and glistening with sadness.
I love the writing in this game but I wish there were more frequest insight checks for Astarion just so I have a chance at being able to take him at his word.
i think they want to be able to leave it up to people's interpretation at times i guess. But i also would love that myself, as an autistic person i just always second guess myself when reading social situations and it would really help to have that confirmation
Agreed. He’s so mannered that even when he’s telling the truth, it sounds rehearsed. There are a few places where you can shock the truth out of him, and I treasure them.

Wow, he's lying through his teeth for this entire conversation -- if you actually *do* invite him along with the drow twins, he dissociates the entire time and has a really bad time. He's way more hurt about it than he's letting on. Wonder if this dialogue changes at all depending on where you are in his personal quest; I never got it in my game.
I really don’t think he is. Except for the part where he wishes he was invited. But I don’t think he minds, as his thing is not being used for his body.
I imagine it's contextual. The drow twins are sex workers, and since Astarion had to lend out his body a lot for Cazador, that's probably a difficult environment for him to be in (not that the drow feel the same way he did under Cazador, but feelings are weird). I figure he dislikes sex that's purely transactional as a rule. Doing it with Miz would be out of mutual pleasure. Like, the drow are both being very seductive, there's an implication they'll get a lot out of it.... but that's literally their job. It's like when people think a waiter/waitress has a crush on them because they were being nice - no, their job's hospitality, they were being hospitable. Similarly those drow either could or couldn't have been into it, there's no way of knowing - and that'd probably mess with Astarion's head.
I was thinking the same. Astarion seems to try and protect himself by pretending not to care. On my game I was monogamous with him and any time someone hinted at it he didn't like it at all. Even after his quest line where you talk him out of ascension and if you go back to the Drow twins, he says maybe he could try it as he is his own person again and he wants to figure out what he actually likes. I went through it to see what would happen, but you get the same information that he doesn't like it and is disconnected from it. So I loaded my save from prior to the drown offer.
@@evajongepier13he doesn’t. If you romance him down the good path, at least from my playthrough, even when the drow twins want to have a 4some IF you go through with it you can look into his eyes. It says something like “he’s going through the motions but his mind is thousands of miles away”.

You can make him go through with it before completing the personal quest if you haven't talked more with him about his past. @@purplepurina I've seen people say this but can't figure out what I would need to skip to get it to happen. From what it sounds like it seems you get the "thousand miles away" text in both cases.
I think he is actually heartbroken in this scene. It's like his coping mechanisms speaking, not him. Considering his background and view on intimacy this reaction is so off with his actual character. He puts on a show. He is actually deeply disturbed with sex
yeah, i think he even really appreciates it when you ask if you can just stay at the grave with him instead of sleeping with him at the end of his quest
@Anna-md4dv I don't think so. He initiates that sexual encounter, it's also the option that allows him to say he loves you, loves what you have and he wants it all. He is taking back that power, he finally gets to feel intimacy with someone who makes him feel safe. I'm a survivor of severe sexual abuse. I'm tired of fans thinking Astarion can only be sex repulsed now. He is allowed to heal, to find intimacy again on his own terms and he does just that. I'm sorry, but it's so incredibly triggering watching so many automatically believe he can no longer find himself again. We are people. We deserve to heal, to live normal sex lives. It takes a hell of a lot of work, but we can do it. He found someone safe in Tav, seen enough (his own words) by them that he feels more than comfortable initiating.

For me, I was aiming for Astarion but La'zele took initiative first, so my Tav had sex with her two times. However, at the moment of the celebration in Act 1, Astarion was actually jealous for all other characters that made advances... but never had sex with my Tav... So I had to choose, tell Wyll, Gale and the others that this has to end and then Astarion proposed the next stage. Curiously, a romance with the Emperor or sex with the Incubus didn't trigger any reaction from any of the character.
I accidentally did this by not immediately turning Karlach down when she came onto me the first time. I thought I was picking the "polite but platonic" options but the game seemed to think I was romancing her. Eventually I had to break it off and I felt like the worst person in the world. IIRC if you romance anyone alongside Astarion he encourages you to break it off with HIM and pursue the other person, which is so sad.
Its kinda hard to tell what he is really feeling about things like this hes okay with Halsin but seems less okay with other followers (Maybe hes attracted to Halsin too) and everything with the twins is either outright rejecting the idea saying he's not ready for it yet or dissociating . If you get his bad end to the romance and pretty much treat the relationship like a fun sex fling it breaks him and he explains he never knew how to say no before and he's tried of being viewed as some object for pleasure. It makes you wonder if all this sorta thing is just a front. And his one branching path has him so obsessed with you he becomes almost violent.
I don't really think he's actually okay with Halsin, you can notice that he feels a little self-conscious about the Halsin's situation from his dialogue but he tries to cover it up pretty well. Either by telling you to not do anything to hurt your relationship or reaffirming that you're his depending on the path. If you said you don't want to be with Halsin and just want to hear his opinion about it, he actually sounds relieved. I think he has a lot of issues with setting his own boundaries and trying to think for himself in terms of intimacy that he won't manage to work out in the duration of the game :(
Astarion doesn't like sharing, if you approach him when you are dating other people he rejects you He only says he's okay with halsin because he loves you at that point and doesn't want to lose you because he can't provide sexual intimacy for you at that time
@aster4459 yeah he's not actually "okay" with Halsin. He makes a comment asking if you're just with Halsin because he can't intimately provide for you and you can visibly hear the anxiety in his voice over it. Bad ending Astarion is just as insecure, but he covers it up with violent, obsessive possession. He won't let you go.
To everyone saying "he's not actually okay with Halsin because he asks for confirmation that it isn't from a lack of sex" that's just what we like to call ~ communication ~ and is completely normal in poly relationships. As someone who is poly and has been in many poly romances with people. His reaction is just a normal one that he SHOULD have. It should be talked about and verified. I've been there myself, but it didn't mean I wasn't okay with my partner being with someone else (and vice versa) sometimes you just need to hear assurances out loud. Again, communication.
For guys in comment - that scene is apparently interended for Ascended Astarion route, because it easily triggers in this situation, but is super glitchy, doen't trigger at all or works not always in Spawn version. The whole Act 3 is bugged, especially when it comes to companions dialogues. So don't be sad.
@kosmosgarden2540 yeah I had the same thing happen, I think in my game the scene happened before I finished Astarions questline maybe that is what caused the bug? Also yeah, just finished the game and act 3 was very buggy, a lot of the quests felt bugged as well and I'm pretty sure I was supposed to fight Mizora but she stayed in my camp the whole game despite choices I made with Wylls quest and preventing someones death she had promised
Ugh yeah I had this scene before I finished his quest and it cut out before I could respond to him 😭😭😭 But I was save scumming anyway, I reloaded and rejected Mizora like I wanted to. Ain’t nobody hurting my Astarion, including me 😂 just finished his quest while romancing him and it was so cute (not the ascension route)

Mizora proposed to me WHILE I was in Cazador place. (Found a safe spot to rest). The video cut after she disappeared and I thought it was maybe because we had to end his arc to get the full version, so I re-loaded, defeated Cazador and tried again Except that it auto-saved in-between cinematic, so after I quit considering it might just be for the other route, and took it some time after, I was REALLY confused as to why the game started on my character being dazed on the ground and Mizora talking. Though I have to admit it is very funny to have Astarion just look at us "hope I'm not interupting" and just shrugging it off as if nothing happens and not even adressing it while Wyll is very disappointed
I was wondering this, i keep seeing ppl upload things that ill have never seen despite doing the same options. Ive noticed entire lines of dialogue just being skipped over at times. Which explains why i didnt realize at first that astarion isnt rlly cool with stuff like this lol
From another dialog I got it really feels like he kinda let you because he doesn't feel to have sex and doesn't want to lose you(?) Idk he is not very easy to read tbh ahaha

I heavily think he’s not okay with it deep down. He may say he’s fine, because he’s accustomed to being used and put off to the side, but I doubt he’s actually secure with it. Deep down he’s probably wondering and second guessing everything. So he says he’s okay, and probably believes it, but I bet later he’ll be trying to sleep or reading a book and thinking “am I not enough?”

Honestly, I have a good feeling he's lying through his teeth about how ok he is about it. He's VERY good at putting up his masks and fronts to act nonchalant and uncaring about situations that he actually cares about a LOT.

The tone shift marks him pretty clearly as Ascended Astarion, as do the changed gestures and facial expressions. Ascended Astarion aka full-vamp, possessive but with lowered empathy&affection-Astarion. So I'm not surprised at these dialogue options, just sad that the romance takes this turn. (If this actually triggers for Spawn Astarion or before the personal quest, I think it's a bug)
This. I reloaded twice but there was no conversation with him about it, so I loaded back an earlier save where I hadn't engaged with her. And frankly.. I think I prefer that to what he says in these scenes.

See I don't want to cheat on my boy and would never do that but I am glad it is a option to do it because it really adds to the player freedom. But oh boy this would hurt him, like I wish you could tell him about it and talk to him about it but it's still like "I don't wanna cheat on him ;w;"
I somehow had Mizora, Halsin and the Emperor all hit me up on the same night I really wanted to run to Astarion and be like please help everyone has turned rabid. But alas the only way to tell him at all is to pretty much agree to go out with Halsin.
@@kc3d777 i thought there was an option to tell astarion that halsin wanted you, but then choose to be loyal to astarion anyway? it's been a while since i had that particular scene though, so maybe i'm mis-remembering. however just a week ago, i was playing astarion, somehow ended up involved with gale, then when halsin came onto my astarion avatar, i talked to gale, he was unhappy, obviously, then i was able to tell gale i was just going to be with him, then go tell halsin i wasn't into it with him
@@nocturna76 maybe mine bugged but the only way i could tell him was to say to Halsin-"id be lying if i wasnt curious" then go to Astarion and tell him about it and there was no option to say i wasnt interested just different versions of are you cool with this. I wonder if anyone has that recorded because I also heard he has dialogue if you ultimately reject Halsin.

well, i found a save from when halsin came onto my mc & did several reloads testing this. it seems that if you tell halsin "i will speak to astarion" it's already flagged as you saying yes to halsin, & every option with astarion after ends with "go right on with halsin" which i find really strange, i mean yes, you can have that convo with astarion then & end things with halsin though you still get the option to talk to halsin about the night you spent together, even if you break if off before that night ever happens. It's still a really weird choice that you can't just tell astarion halsin brought it up, then tell astarion you weren't interested but just wanted to talk to him about it... strange indeed

He masks his misery in over exaggeration. When you hear him raise his pitch or lower it hes hurting. He has a speaking voice for when hes honest that has very little cadence
@@Actaea_ if you long rest after meeting his two spawn siblings, they'll come at night to try to take Astarion back. Astarion lies to them and one of the dialogue options you can pick will have him tell you the consequences of him not going through with bringing someone back / why he doesn't feel bad about lying to them

It’s interesting that when incubus touches Tav in the middle of a day without Tav’s permission Astarion is there to show support and understanding. When Tav is like “nah it’s alright” Astarion is the one to say “no it’s not lol”. He understands what is like not to have control over once’s body and sexual life. He knows the trauma will catch up and hit Tav one day like a brick in a face. But here when Tav says “I didn’t want that” there’s literally no compassion from Astarion. Just dismissal and bad advices. Like “oh you were tricked into sex? Whatever go get another sex so you will feel better”. Which makes me 100% believe that this scene is ascended Astarion exclusive that accidentally is also triggered by spawn. Also I think that Astarion is truly wholeheartedly OK with Tav sleeping with Halsin or Drow Twins (but not with 4some). For me he doesn’t look hurt when player ask about banging Halsin. But maybe that’s just my reading. I’m all about monogamy in my playtrough so I didn’t explore Halsin romance at all.)
I disagree. He's worried you're only screwing halsin because he hasn't slept with you often. With the twins, he won't fuck them if Halsin isn't involved and if he does, he disassociates the entire time. If you try to fuck the twins yourself, he also brings up being worried about having not slept with you recently. He's definitely not mentally fit for poly but is so afraid of losing tav that he will go along with whatever.
There's an interesting tone to his voice; as he acts chill, there's this sense that deep down he is a little bit upset and angered, but is cool, calm and collected, maybe because he doesn't want to seem possessive or affected. Or, it's to protect himself by telling himself it's alright. Or is it because he's Ascended Astarion, at this point? The only reason why I say this is because of all the times I've heard him speaking, his voice sounds a lot more forceful and aggressive than usual, underneath that very soft, whimsical exterior. He's let Tav sleep with other people before. Hells, even partakes in orgies. So polyamory is clearly accepted by him. But why does this *feel* different? Personally I haven't reached this part of the game, yet, so I don't know the context behind it. Does it have to do with not having permission at first? Or is it that he's Ascended? Anyway, just speculating lol. It was interesting to hear him speak in this manner.
i never got this dialogue when it happened to me, i was starting to think it wasnt in the game at all because i reloaded so many times to try and get it to trigger. is your astarion ascended? he was a spawn for me, not sure if that had anything to do with it

@@grimdesire Try making the camp location different from when you first tried it. That’s how i got it to work. If it’s the default camp then you can go rent a room at Elfsong Tavern, or go back to Rivington

This is apparently from the ascended play through, but this piece of dialog is super glitchy so it’s hard to know if it also happens during a spawn play through

I was smiling at first, then I realized he’s lying through his sharp teeth to hide his actual pain (especially when he discusses moving on to the next “conquest”), and suddenly I was crying
I saw some people saying this dialogue is supposed to be for ascended Astarion. Does anyone know if that’s true? It would definitely make sense if it was meant for ascended Astarion, but I think you can read in to it any way you want. I know for me, Astarion says “Am I interrupting?” and then my mc was kicked out of camp. I thought that might just have been a bug, but I like to think Astarion is so upset with you, he kicks you out of camp lol.
i think he doesnt really care you had sx with someone else because it means absolutely nothing to him since he did it so much to lure poeple, thats why when u romance him hes like "lets not do this for a while" and he just cares youre there for him , love him and support him :(
This convo never popped up for me, yes he arrived and she left us to chat but the game instantly took me back to the town. I wasn’t even at the camp/room anymore, I didn’t skip anything it just bugged and skipped this whole convo 😭
Astarion here such a chad. While I do romance sweetheart Gale, his heart could not bear it and he wanted to end things, so I reloaded from that nightmare. I just wanted to seee, Gale, I sweeear 😭
I genuinely don't think he is hurt that Tav went out and had fun. I think he is put out that Tav didn't invite him. Even if he most likely would have said no, or struggled, I think he was most hurt by the fact that Tav didn't take a moment to consider him or his feelings on the matter cause that's really what matters most to him.
Has anyone triggered this scene with non-Ascended Astarion? I tried to save scum and do this just to see what he'd say, but I think it bugged for me because after Mizora leaves, the cut scene stops and I instantly leave the camp. Talking with Astarion doesn't yield anything, although weirdly Wyll acts like I cheated on him (saying something about howwe won't have our happily-ever-after but he still values me as an ally, and I'm just like ?????????)
I didn't get this dialogue at all, because at this moment I've already been locked in a relationship with him. I was a bit sad he didn't show any reaction. Also when you have sex with the imperator or harleep. For him sex doesn't equal love, but since he knows it may for others and that Tavs understanding might be different, I feel like he should have shown jealousy. I think in act 3 some scenes for the romance should have been added to make it feel more whole. Act 3 after Cazador's quest felt a little lonely to me
this hurt much more than i expected, he just gave me my first hearthbroke. his talk feel no different compared to the time one girl was asking to get biten and say she will give us a potion
I don't know how those dialogues are similar in any way, but as for him breaking your heart....like you literally just cheated on him. He's not gonna be serious about you if you're not serious about him.

I think this is more him feeling fine with you cheating on him because he would do the same (or at least now he would) or him hiding that he is a little bit hurt by you betraying him, though only a little because he was already expecting it. Especially if you forced him to drink the girl's blood for the potion before, that actually has a major impact on the relationship as a whole. So safe to say he was already not too serious about you if you chose that. It's when you treat him nicely and are completely loyal to him that he takes the relationship more seriously.
Ayo, i heard that after patch 6 they added a new dialogue for astarion when he catches your fling with mizora. Ofc you need to romance him to get this dialouge i believe but i dont wanna test it myself. Im still trying to romance him.
Desperately looking for an answer online, maybe RUclips comments can help me. When Astarion comes onto me in act 1, if I reject him, does that permanently lock me out of romance with him? It feels too quick for that, so I'm not sure I want that scene to happen yet
I was in the same shoes, friend! Could not find an answer then, so I tried my luck a little. If he's proposed to you even before the goblin/tiefling celebration night, and you reject him then, he will propose you at the celebration night too. (Btw, I was on Very High approval, maybe that counts too.) I went with a softer rejection, not with the leech line. (Even better, I chose the lines "I did it to make you stronger", then the one saying he doesn't have to do it just to repay you for the blood, then the line saying this is rather suspicious, and only then did I pick the "Absolutely not". Sort of going through reasons to let him off easy, I think :D) At the party, I accepted, because I was a coward xD Since then a friend of mine has read somewhere on Twitter that it does indeed lock you out of his romance if you refuse to sleep with him in Act 1. (And I think it's likely that he won't propose it again in Act 1 after two rejections, so the party is probably your last chance.) At the party, since you're also playing the somewhat 'hard to get' route like me, let him offer again instead of you offering. So I suggest the "Knowing you it probably is" line instead of proposing yourself - that's when he offers. On a side note, Lae'zel also proposed me already before the celebration, I politely rejected, and she remembered it at the party (remarked on it) and did NOT offer again. She was at Medium approval. So maybe approval level matters with Astarion too. If you're looking to keep this up for a bit and try to make it a slower burn, btw, if you sleep with him at the party, one of the nights following he WILL invite you into his bedroll again. Maybe it's prudent to soft-reject him here. (The hard reject ends the romance, it's cruel and tells him he was just a one-nighter - his reaction is worth a watch to that, it's heartbreaking.)
My game bugfed out when I did this and I never got his reaction, I wish there was a way to get permission from companions beforehand, otherwise I wouldn't have loaded a save 😂
Why do ppl interpret this as him lying 😂 i get it, but at this point he knew how to drow boundaries (even on the drow twins, it was AFTER he said ok to the sex then he realizes he still playing a performance). Important thing here is tav isnt using his body on a whim.

My friend, that there is deep seated trauma. He definitely isn't happy about sharing Tav, even with Halsin who on the other hand is a great example of polyamory. Astarion's relationship with intimacy is broken, and he says as much on a couple occasions.
People think he is lying here but i disagree, this scene is meant for his ascended route here sex is simply performative to him, he does not care, and as we see in the ending any feeling he jas toward the player are just ownership and possession in the way you'd own a pet He is not lying, he does not care at all

the best thing to read emotions is turn off the voice and watch the eyes. The eyes are expressive in this game. His smile doesn't reach the eyes, the laughter isn't heartful. His eyes are tense and glistening with sadness.
I love the writing in this game but I wish there were more frequest insight checks for Astarion just so I have a chance at being able to take him at his word.
i think they want to be able to leave it up to people's interpretation at times i guess. But i also would love that myself, as an autistic person i just always second guess myself when reading social situations and it would really help to have that confirmation

I really don’t think he is. Except for the part where he wishes he was invited. But I don’t think he minds, as his thing is not being used for his body.
I imagine it's contextual. The drow twins are sex workers, and since Astarion had to lend out his body a lot for Cazador, that's probably a difficult environment for him to be in (not that the drow feel the same way he did under Cazador, but feelings are weird). I figure he dislikes sex that's purely transactional as a rule. Doing it with Miz would be out of mutual pleasure.
Like, the drow are both being very seductive, there's an implication they'll get a lot out of it.... but that's literally their job. It's like when people think a waiter/waitress has a crush on them because they were being nice - no, their job's hospitality, they were being hospitable. Similarly those drow either could or couldn't have been into it, there's no way of knowing - and that'd probably mess with Astarion's head.

I was thinking the same. Astarion seems to try and protect himself by pretending not to care. On my game I was monogamous with him and any time someone hinted at it he didn't like it at all. Even after his quest line where you talk him out of ascension and if you go back to the Drow twins, he says maybe he could try it as he is his own person again and he wants to figure out what he actually likes. I went through it to see what would happen, but you get the same information that he doesn't like it and is disconnected from it. So I loaded my save from prior to the drown offer.

I think he is actually heartbroken in this scene. It's like his coping mechanisms speaking, not him. Considering his background and view on intimacy this reaction is so off with his actual character. He puts on a show. He is actually deeply disturbed with sex

He is taking back that power, he finally gets to feel intimacy with someone who makes him feel safe. I'm a survivor of severe sexual abuse. I'm tired of fans thinking Astarion can only be sex repulsed now. He is allowed to heal, to find intimacy again on his own terms and he does just that. I'm sorry, but it's so incredibly triggering watching so many automatically believe he can no longer find himself again. We are people. We deserve to heal, to live normal sex lives. It takes a hell of a lot of work, but we can do it. He found someone safe in Tav, seen enough (his own words) by them that he feels more than comfortable initiating.

For me, I was aiming for Astarion but La'zele took initiative first, so my Tav had sex with her two times. However, at the moment of the celebration in Act 1, Astarion was actually jealous for all other characters that made advances... but never had sex with my Tav... So I had to choose, tell Wyll, Gale and the others that this has to end and then Astarion proposed the next stage.
Curiously, a romance with the Emperor or sex with the Incubus didn't trigger any reaction from any of the character.

I accidentally did this by not immediately turning Karlach down when she came onto me the first time. I thought I was picking the "polite but platonic" options but the game seemed to think I was romancing her. Eventually I had to break it off and I felt like the worst person in the world.
IIRC if you romance anyone alongside Astarion he encourages you to break it off with HIM and pursue the other person, which is so sad.
Its kinda hard to tell what he is really feeling about things like this hes okay with Halsin but seems less okay with other followers (Maybe hes attracted to Halsin too) and everything with the twins is either outright rejecting the idea saying he's not ready for it yet or dissociating . If you get his bad end to the romance and pretty much treat the relationship like a fun sex fling it breaks him and he explains he never knew how to say no before and he's tried of being viewed as some object for pleasure. It makes you wonder if all this sorta thing is just a front. And his one branching path has him so obsessed with you he becomes almost violent.
I don't really think he's actually okay with Halsin, you can notice that he feels a little self-conscious about the Halsin's situation from his dialogue but he tries to cover it up pretty well. Either by telling you to not do anything to hurt your relationship or reaffirming that you're his depending on the path. If you said you don't want to be with Halsin and just want to hear his opinion about it, he actually sounds relieved. I think he has a lot of issues with setting his own boundaries and trying to think for himself in terms of intimacy that he won't manage to work out in the duration of the game :(

He only says he's okay with halsin because he loves you at that point and doesn't want to lose you because he can't provide sexual intimacy for you at that time

He makes a comment asking if you're just with Halsin because he can't intimately provide for you and you can visibly hear the anxiety in his voice over it. Bad ending Astarion is just as insecure, but he covers it up with violent, obsessive possession. He won't let you go.

To everyone saying "he's not actually okay with Halsin because he asks for confirmation that it isn't from a lack of sex" that's just what we like to call ~ communication ~ and is completely normal in poly relationships. As someone who is poly and has been in many poly romances with people. His reaction is just a normal one that he SHOULD have. It should be talked about and verified. I've been there myself, but it didn't mean I wasn't okay with my partner being with someone else (and vice versa) sometimes you just need to hear assurances out loud. Again, communication.
For guys in comment - that scene is apparently interended for Ascended Astarion route, because it easily triggers in this situation, but is super glitchy, doen't trigger at all or works not always in Spawn version. The whole Act 3 is bugged, especially when it comes to companions dialogues. So don't be sad.
@kosmosgarden2540 yeah I had the same thing happen, I think in my game the scene happened before I finished Astarions questline maybe that is what caused the bug? Also yeah, just finished the game and act 3 was very buggy, a lot of the quests felt bugged as well and I'm pretty sure I was supposed to fight Mizora but she stayed in my camp the whole game despite choices I made with Wylls quest and preventing someones death she had promised
Ugh yeah I had this scene before I finished his quest and it cut out before I could respond to him 😭😭😭 But I was save scumming anyway, I reloaded and rejected Mizora like I wanted to. Ain’t nobody hurting my Astarion, including me 😂 just finished his quest while romancing him and it was so cute (not the ascension route)

Mizora proposed to me WHILE I was in Cazador place. (Found a safe spot to rest). The video cut after she disappeared and I thought it was maybe because we had to end his arc to get the full version, so I re-loaded, defeated Cazador and tried again
Except that it auto-saved in-between cinematic, so after I quit considering it might just be for the other route, and took it some time after, I was REALLY confused as to why the game started on my character being dazed on the ground and Mizora talking. Though I have to admit it is very funny to have Astarion just look at us "hope I'm not interupting" and just shrugging it off as if nothing happens and not even adressing it while Wyll is very disappointed

I heavily think he’s not okay with it deep down. He may say he’s fine, because he’s accustomed to being used and put off to the side, but I doubt he’s actually secure with it. Deep down he’s probably wondering and second guessing everything.
So he says he’s okay, and probably believes it, but I bet later he’ll be trying to sleep or reading a book and thinking “am I not enough?”

The tone shift marks him pretty clearly as Ascended Astarion, as do the changed gestures and facial expressions. Ascended Astarion aka full-vamp, possessive but with lowered empathy&affection-Astarion. So I'm not surprised at these dialogue options, just sad that the romance takes this turn. (If this actually triggers for Spawn Astarion or before the personal quest, I think it's a bug)
tested it out with spawn astarion, the conversation ends after mizora leaves and he doesnt say anything more about it
This. I reloaded twice but there was no conversation with him about it, so I loaded back an earlier save where I hadn't engaged with her. And frankly.. I think I prefer that to what he says in these scenes.

well, i found a save from when halsin came onto my mc & did several reloads testing this. it seems that if you tell halsin "i will speak to astarion" it's already flagged as you saying yes to halsin, & every option with astarion after ends with "go right on with halsin" which i find really strange, i mean yes, you can have that convo with astarion then & end things with halsin though you still get the option to talk to halsin about the night you spent together, even if you break if off before that night ever happens. It's still a really weird choice that you can't just tell astarion halsin brought it up, then tell astarion you weren't interested but just wanted to talk to him about it... strange indeed

Astarion lies to them and one of the dialogue options you can pick will have him tell you the consequences of him not going through with bringing someone back / why he doesn't feel bad about lying to them

It’s interesting that when incubus touches Tav in the middle of a day without Tav’s permission Astarion is there to show support and understanding. When Tav is like “nah it’s alright” Astarion is the one to say “no it’s not lol”. He understands what is like not to have control over once’s body and sexual life. He knows the trauma will catch up and hit Tav one day like a brick in a face.
But here when Tav says “I didn’t want that” there’s literally no compassion from Astarion. Just dismissal and bad advices. Like “oh you were tricked into sex? Whatever go get another sex so you will feel better”.
Which makes me 100% believe that this scene is ascended Astarion exclusive that accidentally is also triggered by spawn.
Also I think that Astarion is truly wholeheartedly OK with Tav sleeping with Halsin or Drow Twins (but not with 4some). For me he doesn’t look hurt when player ask about banging Halsin. But maybe that’s just my reading.

I disagree. He's worried you're only screwing halsin because he hasn't slept with you often. With the twins, he won't fuck them if Halsin isn't involved and if he does, he disassociates the entire time. If you try to fuck the twins yourself, he also brings up being worried about having not slept with you recently. He's definitely not mentally fit for poly but is so afraid of losing tav that he will go along with whatever.
The scene glitches out when astarion is still a spawn, and you don't get any dialog :(
There's an interesting tone to his voice; as he acts chill, there's this sense that deep down he is a little bit upset and angered, but is cool, calm and collected, maybe because he doesn't want to seem possessive or affected. Or, it's to protect himself by telling himself it's alright. Or is it because he's Ascended Astarion, at this point? The only reason why I say this is because of all the times I've heard him speaking, his voice sounds a lot more forceful and aggressive than usual, underneath that very soft, whimsical exterior. He's let Tav sleep with other people before. Hells, even partakes in orgies. So polyamory is clearly accepted by him. But why does this *feel* different?
Personally I haven't reached this part of the game, yet, so I don't know the context behind it. Does it have to do with not having permission at first? Or is it that he's Ascended?
Anyway, just speculating lol. It was interesting to hear him speak in this manner.

i never got this dialogue when it happened to me, i was starting to think it wasnt in the game at all because i reloaded so many times to try and get it to trigger. is your astarion ascended? he was a spawn for me, not sure if that had anything to do with it

@@grimdesire Try making the camp location different from when you first tried it. That’s how i got it to work. If it’s the default camp then you can go rent a room at Elfsong Tavern, or go back to Rivington

This is apparently from the ascended play through, but this piece of dialog is super glitchy so it’s hard to know if it also happens during a spawn play through

@@Burritoadinthehole from other comments to this video and from the person (kaynnoir) who uploaded the video, it seems Astarion's reactions here are intended for the Ascended Astarion only, as they are marked with "vampire lord" responses in the files... but they are buggy and sometimes play for Spawn-Astarion as well.

I was smiling at first, then I realized he’s lying through his sharp teeth to hide his actual pain (especially when he discusses moving on to the next “conquest”), and suddenly I was crying
I saw some people saying this dialogue is supposed to be for ascended Astarion. Does anyone know if that’s true? It would definitely make sense if it was meant for ascended Astarion, but I think you can read in to it any way you want. I know for me, Astarion says “Am I interrupting?” and then my mc was kicked out of camp. I thought that might just have been a bug, but I like to think Astarion is so upset with you, he kicks you out of camp lol.
i think he doesnt really care you had sx with someone else because it means absolutely nothing to him since he did it so much to lure poeple, thats why when u romance him hes like "lets not do this for a while" and he just cares youre there for him , love him and support him :(
This convo never popped up for me, yes he arrived and she left us to chat but the game instantly took me back to the town. I wasn’t even at the camp/room anymore, I didn’t skip anything it just bugged and skipped this whole convo 😭

I genuinely don't think he is hurt that Tav went out and had fun. I think he is put out that Tav didn't invite him. Even if he most likely would have said no, or struggled, I think he was most hurt by the fact that Tav didn't take a moment to consider him or his feelings on the matter cause that's really what matters most to him.
Has anyone triggered this scene with non-Ascended Astarion? I tried to save scum and do this just to see what he'd say, but I think it bugged for me because after Mizora leaves, the cut scene stops and I instantly leave the camp. Talking with Astarion doesn't yield anything, although weirdly Wyll acts like I cheated on him (saying something about howwe won't have our happily-ever-after but he still values me as an ally, and I'm just like ?????????)

I didn't get this dialogue at all, because at this moment I've already been locked in a relationship with him. I was a bit sad he didn't show any reaction. Also when you have sex with the imperator or harleep. For him sex doesn't equal love, but since he knows it may for others and that Tavs understanding might be different, I feel like he should have shown jealousy. I think in act 3 some scenes for the romance should have been added to make it feel more whole. Act 3 after Cazador's quest felt a little lonely to me

this hurt much more than i expected, he just gave me my first hearthbroke. his talk feel no different compared to the time one girl was asking to get biten and say she will give us a potion
I don't know how those dialogues are similar in any way, but as for him breaking your heart....like you literally just cheated on him. He's not gonna be serious about you if you're not serious about him.

I think this is more him feeling fine with you cheating on him because he would do the same (or at least now he would) or him hiding that he is a little bit hurt by you betraying him, though only a little because he was already expecting it. Especially if you forced him to drink the girl's blood for the potion before, that actually has a major impact on the relationship as a whole. So safe to say he was already not too serious about you if you chose that. It's when you treat him nicely and are completely loyal to him that he takes the relationship more seriously.

Ayo, i heard that after patch 6 they added a new dialogue for astarion when he catches your fling with mizora. Ofc you need to romance him to get this dialouge i believe but i dont wanna test it myself. Im still trying to romance him.

Desperately looking for an answer online, maybe RUclips comments can help me. When Astarion comes onto me in act 1, if I reject him, does that permanently lock me out of romance with him? It feels too quick for that, so I'm not sure I want that scene to happen yet
I was in the same shoes, friend! Could not find an answer then, so I tried my luck a little. If he's proposed to you even before the goblin/tiefling celebration night, and you reject him then, he will propose you at the celebration night too. (Btw, I was on Very High approval, maybe that counts too.) I went with a softer rejection, not with the leech line. (Even better, I chose the lines "I did it to make you stronger", then the one saying he doesn't have to do it just to repay you for the blood, then the line saying this is rather suspicious, and only then did I pick the "Absolutely not". Sort of going through reasons to let him off easy, I think :D)
At the party, I accepted, because I was a coward xD
Since then a friend of mine has read somewhere on Twitter that it does indeed lock you out of his romance if you refuse to sleep with him in Act 1. (And I think it's likely that he won't propose it again in Act 1 after two rejections, so the party is probably your last chance.)
At the party, since you're also playing the somewhat 'hard to get' route like me, let him offer again instead of you offering. So I suggest the "Knowing you it probably is" line instead of proposing yourself - that's when he offers.
On a side note, Lae'zel also proposed me already before the celebration, I politely rejected, and she remembered it at the party (remarked on it) and did NOT offer again. She was at Medium approval. So maybe approval level matters with Astarion too.
If you're looking to keep this up for a bit and try to make it a slower burn, btw, if you sleep with him at the party, one of the nights following he WILL invite you into his bedroll again. Maybe it's prudent to soft-reject him here. (The hard reject ends the romance, it's cruel and tells him he was just a one-nighter - his reaction is worth a watch to that, it's heartbreaking.)

Why do ppl interpret this as him lying 😂 i get it, but at this point he knew how to drow boundaries (even on the drow twins, it was AFTER he said ok to the sex then he realizes he still playing a performance). Important thing here is tav isnt using his body on a whim.
I think a lot of people are so inherently suspicious of non-monogamy that they can't comprehend a character they like being okay with it

i'm starting to wonder if him being polyamorous has something to do with being so emotionally repressed he doesn't feel anything when it comes to intimacy... like I love some polyamorous rep but it seems to come from a place of trauma rather than healthy sexuality
Yeah with Halsin it's healthy but I think Asterion is a deeply broken man that hasn't worked through his past.
My friend, that there is deep seated trauma. He definitely isn't happy about sharing Tav, even with Halsin who on the other hand is a great example of polyamory. Astarion's relationship with intimacy is broken, and he says as much on a couple occasions.
I think my game was bugged at this point.. Mizora said her line, but I had no dialogue with Astraion after that :((

here sex is simply performative to him, he does not care, and as we see in the ending any feeling he jas toward the player are just ownership and possession in the way you'd own a pet

WTF i was in a relationship with Starry and got with Mizora but did not get this conversation at all! Maybe my morning-after was buggy bc i was previously on Wyll's path as well until I was forced to DTR with Starry, Wyll is SUPER pissed and hurt when you talk to him, probably dumps you if you're romancing him.

His face is not a mod. It’s a half elf face. There are some mods that allow you to use the face of other races though, i suggest you using one!
