    Use hot water let it set for 5 min minimizes breakage ! Hot water is our friend pry off with a can opener !!!

    Thanks for this one! I see folks showing off these mods, but never realized how easy they were. I'd always assumed the scales were glued in place.

    • @ConansEasyDadCarry
      @ConansEasyDadCarry  Год назад +2

      WAY easier than I had thought originally. I thought they were glued too. I know I've seen some people putting them in hot water and all sorts of stuff. But if you just go slow, it's easy. I did cut a few minutes of squeezing and checking the gap, but it was just me being careful. I've already got more scales on order to do some more switching!

      @@ConansEasyDadCarry Depending on what kind of scales you are swapping to, it might need some epoxy.
      Basically the titanium or any other metal ones.
      Because de Celidor (original material of the red scales) or other kinds of resin are flexible and the will expand and adjust to the pins. Metal scales wont, so what's why you'd need an extra layer of epoxy.

    I think a lot of people have gone full circle with SAKs like you have. I started off getting into EDC with a SAK (the Hiker) and then bought a Classic SD for the scissors, then I started getting into multitools and blade only folding knives. But I think that the Knipex Cobra pliers, especially the XS which are tiny but very capable, have been a game changer for many of us in the EDC community and we've gone back to carrying SAKs. Also the bottom line is that Victorinox make the best scissors in the multitool world and also I find their wood saws are better than those on Leathermans. Files are about equal. Most Leathermans don't have proper fully profiled Phillips screwdrivers - only the Bond, Rebar and Supertool do - so they're not better than SAKs in that respect either.

    • @ConansEasyDadCarry
      @ConansEasyDadCarry  Год назад +1

      SAK really do have the best scissors out there. And the Mini Cobra really have been great! It does kind of feel "full circle" to come back around to SAKs after having really explored what I like and need, and figuring out what kind of form factor I want. Thanks for the thoughtful comment!

    And thank you for the shout out in the description!
    Congrats on your new blue scales for the Handyman, which is also one of my favorites, I'm fully on board with carrying a chunky victorinox although more often than not I end up throwing it in my sling bag instead of dangling it in my pocket 😅
    Lately I've been carrying the Explorer almost every day, I find myself enjoying that in-line philips way more than I thought I would, don't care to much for the magnifying glass but I tolerate it for the sake of having that wonderful philips screwdriver in my pocket.

    Dang!!! How cool!!! Your video just showed up in my feet and how amazing! Ok, I'm gonna keep watching now..
    You can use the blade on your 58 mm knife to get the scales off. I always thought it wasn't strong enough, but it's totally fine, so far. My only problem is that mine is so sharp that it tends to cut the little round parts that are attached to the rivets.
    I'm sorry you scratched your new scales. May I suggest that should you decide to cover up that scratch by scratching more of your scales you not make a video about it? It's not gonna be a popular video!
    And may I thank you for giving me a reason to listen to the hit song that contains the lines, "pistol grip clamp on my lap at all times / they can be messing with other people's Swiss army knives, but they can't be messing with mine".
    Love the green on the donut knife!!

    • @ConansEasyDadCarry
      @ConansEasyDadCarry  Год назад

      I'd recommend the can opener or flat driver blade. Enough of an edge to pry without being too sharp. The scratch is ok. I mean, on the install is rough, but I've already picked up a few more. But, that's what happens when you use your gear 😂 I actually liked what you did in your video!
      Also- I haven't heard that song since high school! The original OR RAtM. Now I know what I'm listening to while I edit tonight!
      Thank you again Anne- you really are awesome, and the reason I got back into SAKs!

    • @Olyphoto7
      @Olyphoto7 Год назад +1

      If you put your SAK in warm water it helps when removing the scales so they can be used again. Also, when adding plus scales you can open the “hidden” scale tool slot. You then can have apen, tweezers, toothpick, and firefly ferro rod. I’ve done this on two of my huntsman and my handyman.

    • @ConansEasyDadCarry
      @ConansEasyDadCarry  Год назад +1

      @@Olyphoto7 I saw that! I'm actually thinking of doing that now that I saw how easy it seems. I don't use the toothpick a lot, but it's always good to have a "bonus tool"

      Full transparency- I did cut about maybe 2 or 3 minutes of squeezing. But that was me being super cautious. But really, if I wasn't also doing a video at my desk, it would have taken 2 minutes on my bench clamp in the garage 😂

      Thank you! I don't know what it is! There really is just *something* about them that makes it satisfying to hold a use. I mean, they have nostalgia built into them, even if you've never been around them before. And the overall package, form, and function, make them so appealing that it just kind of makes sense.

    Only knife i carry, outside of work, is a sak Compact. Why carry a fancy one handed folding knife? A sak can do so much more.

    • @ConansEasyDadCarry
      @ConansEasyDadCarry  Год назад

      I carry my dedicated knife at work just because I open boxes, packages, and bags, all day. You're not wrong that a sak just does more, but the convenience of a 1 handed blade is hard to top. That being said, these days switch between a dedicated knife a work and a sak the rest of the time (unless I'm hiking).

    • @imp2247
      @imp2247 Год назад

      I wasn't even counting my work knife, which is a utility box knife. I don't really consider it edc, since I don't literally have it on me every day. A one handed knife is a must at work, but otherwise I don't need it.

    Rather humorous. You struggled with replacing the scales on a victorinox, yet seem to think you have the skill to customize a Leatherman. The anslogy would be that, since you managed to tie your shoes, you figured you could make a shoe.
    Actually, Leatherman multi-tools aren't for show. They are tools. Although mods aren't difficult, they require attention to detail. Many people don't modify their Leatherman tools, because mods aren't needed.
    Victorinox SAK mods usually require pin replacement. The scales break and fall off constantly, with any real use. I'm not into toys and such flimsy, tiny, useless items.
    You might want to do whatever you are talking about on camera.

      Lighten up bud 🤣 All I said was that I'm *capable*. Definitely don't have the skill or know-how right now. But I AM super good at tying my shoes! And there's actually a pretty big community of leatherman and multitool modders out there. You should check out Hvac Budget! He does some cool stuff with different tools. Sorry that you don't like SAKs. I think you're missing out. But everyone in EDC has their own preferences- that's what makes the conversation interesting.
