I/O is a perfect album. It's got pieces of sonic elements that Peter used on all of his previous records, and he comes off with this record in a way like saying "yeah, I'm 74 and I can still teach ANYONE how to make a perfect record, listen and learn". This song is another example of that. Another song of him having fun in a good way. There are a lot of soft and dreamy songs and suddenly he pulls this one out of this pocket and you remember another skill of PG: making a fun-rocking song.
Yeah, it is perfect album. I was blown away by the songs AND sound, two mixers (studio engineers) made excellent job at creating bright and dark side mixes, there is another version called In-Side mixes sounding very 3D. PG's standards are so high his 90's production often sound better than what they are doing today.
Lyrically this speaks to my emerging from 15 years of drug addiction (aged 50 - 65) and coming back to life and finding joy inside me on my road forward. I’ll be 70 in November and I feel more joy than ever! Thank you Peter Gabriel for being such an inspiration to me from back since both you and I were in our 20s until this present moment ❤🙏🏻🕉️
It's wild to me how little his voice has changed since the 80s. If anything it sounds better and smoother. This song is a sonic buffet and I'm all here for it. Just fantastic.
I was going to the grocery store and i was like wait!, that sounds like peter gabriel on the radio. My lady and i sat there and listened to the rest of the song in the car. 2 weeks later i searched for the song on the radio playlist.
Man, I didn’t know how much I needed this song! After becoming extremely tired of all of the “new” cut and paste music coming out these days, PG comes in and drops a nuke. This is a work of art. 💣💣💣
That song is unmistakably Peter Gabriel, but something new as well. It's like a 2023 child with a strong resemblance to an earlier generation; a grandchild who makes everyone remember what a hot mess grandma was in the 70's. Loved it. Every note, every word.
Kann der bitte in allen Charts damit auf Platz 1 ? Das wäre unfassbar cool...ein 73-jähriger zeigt nochmal, wie man richtig geile Musik macht. So genial war er zuletzt auf SO drauf.
Classic, but new Peter Gabriel...this takes me back to when I first stood in the NAAFI bar at RAF Brize Norton and the video of Sledgehammer was playing. Been a fan of this man ever since, cheers Peter !!
Because of fear and panic in front of large crowds, I had to sell my tickets for June 10th in Cologne. I've been listening to PG since 1977 (Born 66) and I'm really sad. But I'm happy for everyone who can enjoy this concert. Maybe next time :-(
You were the man when I was in High school to University and my early 20's (1980's). Now I'm 60, friends are passing away, life changes, retirement. Oh, Toss up on Light(bright)/Dark, The dark stands for itself. Special Shout-out for WERS 88.9: Boston for playing all the singles from this upcoming release. Can't wait for the Vinyl. Thank you!
This reminds me his best period around mids 90´s with the Secret World Live Tour. Paula Cole as a back singer and that monster musicians band chillin behind. Excelent song.

Great Stuff ! Reminds me of the good ol' eighties, early nineties stuff. Somehow, it also reminds me some Kate Bush's stuff, like "Rubberband Girl"... Oh, how I'd love those two do some collaboration one more time !!!!

For me, this song was one of the highlights of seeing him in concert. Seeing those rotating hands flipping the bird was just...A JOY 😂
Why would you find joy in such a vulgar display??
Oh, yes, indeed.
I think this has evolved out of "Kiss that Frog" ... I clearly hear a connection. Loving the whole album, bringing us Joy Peter Gabriel!
that's exactly what I thought 😂
Absolutely kick ass track!
Amazing! Saw him perform it live! 🖕The middle finger represents flipping off death and embracing life! It’s all about context!

"Road to Joy (Bright-Side Mix)" - Peter Gabriel, 2023.
Waking up, waking up, waking up… Waking up the road to joy
So as swollen skies Look for anchors, look for tides
Sharp sound swim around Soaking into the brittle ground
Been so many days, been held inside this body
Been so many days and there’s nothing to do
Been so many days and at the darkness
Been so many days, I've been waiting for you
Back in the world Waking up the road to joy
Love comes through the walls
Won’t slip wherever it falls
Life's form won't calm you down
Going in for another round
This is how it goes, I've been listening to the voices
This is how it goes, you were sure I was gone
This is how it goes in a state of meditation
This is how it goes, I've been waiting for you
Back in the world waking up the road to joy
Back in the world walking down the road to joy
Thе engine stops inside thе pause Fills the holes and cracks don't close
Young and old, girl and boy Dance around the world to joy
Picture sharpens in your head Opens up when it's been red
All the things he’s trained to see Come on, darling, come to me
Show your eyes, show your teeth That’s the way to build belief
Touch my hair, touch my knee You can wake up every part of me
Get the blood to flow in every nook and cranny
Get the blood to flow from my head to my toes
Get the blood to flow flowing all around me
Get the blood to flow with the life in my soul
Back in the world Walking down the road to joy
Just when you think it can’t get worse The mind reveals the universe
Opens up, but just to start It gives you straight just who you are
I'm more a dog, you're more a cat Then we get bod of that
Alive again all as snake Then we jump into the lake
Thank you for taking the time to do this, btw :)
